at The Barn Players
Playwright Del Shores will be in Kansas City for the opening week of The Barn Players production of his hilarious black comedy "Sordid Lives",
and will present a Master Class Lecture program at JCCC.
"Dessert and Dish with Del", a pre-show reception with playwright Del Shores will take place on Saturday, June 1st at 6:00 p.m. preceding the 7:30pm performance of "Sordid Lives". The reception will include a dessert bar, a small silent auction and refreshments by Rimann Liquors and Snow and Co. Tickets for the reception and the performance of "Sordid Lives" that evening are $50 per person. Tickets may be ordered by calling 1-800-838-3006, by going to the theatre website www.thebarnplayers.org or may be purchased at the door the evening of the performance. You may also purchase tickets for only the performance that evening.
The award winning play "Sordid Lives" will be presented by the Barn Players May 31st through June 16th. Shores has written, directed and produced numerous films, television shows and four outstanding stage plays including "Daddy's Dyin' (Who's go the Will)", "Southern Baptist Sissies", "The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife" and "Sordid Lives".
"Sordid Lives" is Shores' fourth and best known stage play; the play is a "black comedy about white trash" and takes place in a small Texas town where a family is preparing for the funeral of their mother amid family chaos. Shores' plays have enjoyed sold out runs throughout the country and the motion picture "Sordid Lives" has become a cult phenomenon.
Performances of "Sordid Lives" at the Barn Players will be May 31st through June 16th -- Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 2:00.
The Barn Players production is directed by Sara Crow and features Vicki Kearns, Lisa Morse, Claudia Cooping, Julia Miller, Guy Gardner, Dennis Maddus, Matthew McGaugh, Angela Zieber, Victoria Prather, Irene Blend, DeDe DeVille, Rob Pagenkopf and Josh Brady. The show is rated "R".
Tickets for "Sordid Lives" at the Barn Players are $18.00 and may be ordered by calling
1-800-838-3006, by going to the theatre website www.thebarnplayers.org or may be purchased at the door the evening of the performance. Senior, Student and Group prices are also available.
Shores will also appear at Johnson County Community College in the Bodker Black Box Theatre on Friday afternoon, May 31st from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. and present his Master Class lecture and audience participation program entitled "Get Out of Your Head and Trust Your Gut". Tickets to participate in the Master Class are $50 and include a ticket to see "Sordid Lives" (excluding the June 1st performance) and are $25 to observe only - JCCC students can attend free, but need to make reservations). Tickets may be purchased and student reservations made for the JCCC Master Class lecture/program on line at www.thebarnplayers.org. The JCCC program will be limited to 50 persons and starts with a lecture/discussion by Shores and includes personal participation by those attending.
