INTO THE WOODS and happy ever after!

The company that brought you the critically
acclaimed production of LES MISERABLES (Yardley
Hall, summer 2013) and the Internationally
award-winning production of BIG RIVER (Kauffman
Center, summer 2014), now brings you the
incredible Tony Award Winning, and Golden Globe
and Academy Award nominated, INTO THE WOODS!
(Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Book by
James Lapine.)

As the result of the curse of a once-beautiful
witch, a baker and his wife are childless.
Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they
venture into the forest to find the ingredients
that will reverse the spell and restore the
witch's beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as
yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper
of gold. During their journey, they meet
Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel
and Jack, each one on a quest to fulfill a
wish. Everyone's wishes are granted, but the
consequences of their actions return to haunt
them later with disastrous results.

LOVERLY press release

Musical Theater Heritage at Crown Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 27, 2015

"WOULDN'T IT BE LOVERLY"
Songs from My Fair Lady, Brigadoon, Gigi,
Camelot, Paint Your Wagon

Of the few songwriting teams known as one word we
have Rodgers & Hart, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Kander
& Ebb and…Lerner & Loewe.

These two men created many of America's most well-
known musical theater scores. They weren't nearly
as prolific as those others mentioned, but in
listing their works together, there's not one
'FLOP' among them. Their first hit was Brigadoon
in 1947, then came Paint Your Wagon in 1951, My
Fair Lady in 1956, the film Gigi for MGM in 1958
and finally Camelot in 1960.

They were the first songwriting team that did not
come up through the Tin Pan Alley traditions (the
commercial song publishing industry located in New
York). Rather, Alan J. Lerner was a Harvard
trained dramatist, with no aspirations to write
song lyrics. Frederick "Fritz" Loewe was born in
Vienna, was a piano soloist around Europe by age
13. He brought to Broadway the ancient sound of
the operetta. Sure, Jerome Kern and Victor Herbert
did it, too; but not in the time of top 40 radio,
Ed Sullivan and the 33 1/3 long-playing album.

Alan J. Lerner collaborated with several other
composers throughout his Broadway years including
Andre' Previn, Burton Lane, (On a Clear Day You
Can See Forever, 1965) Charles Strouse and Leonard
Bernstein. But, none of these partnerships
produced the magic of Lerner with Fritz Loewe in
such songs as: Heather on the Hill, They Call The
Wind Maria, Wouldn't It Be Loverly, The Night They
Invented Champaign or If Ever I Would Leave You.

WOULDN'T IT BE LOVERLY was written by George
Harter and is directed by Sarah Crawford. The cast
includes SARA SOMMERER, PATRICK BEASLEY, JUSTIN
McCOY, ASHLEY WHEAT. A three-piece combo will
provide the music led by Jeremy Watson at the
piano. George Harter will act as narrator;
Elizabeth Birger, Andrew Schmidt, Donna Dandino
and Linnaia McKenzie will provide the chorus.

Performances are Thursdays thru Sundays, August
13-30. For tickets call (816) 221-6987, or online
at www.MTHKC.com.
MUSICAL THEATER HERITAGE at CROWN CENTER is on the
third floor of the Crown Center Shops.

SYNOPSIS: Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks' classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, THE PRODUCERS once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly "boffo" hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive "Springtime For Hitler"), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic con
struction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.

CAST BREAKDOWN:
We are looking for a multi-racial, high-energy cast of performers.

Max Bialystock – male, bari-tenor, 40 to 60
A fearless showman is required with excellent singing, acting, movement and comedic skills.
He's described as selfish and greedy – a man who is only interested in making money. Max's fiery and sarcastic nature can be very intimidating; however, he is also charming and nearly irresistible. He knows how to get what he wants.

Leo Bloom – male, tenor, 27 to 36
Must be a strong song and dance man with excellent comedic skills.
Leo Bloom is a mousey, nervous and fearful accountant, prone to panic attacks and who keeps a security blanket to calm himself. However, he dreams of bigger things, especially in show biz. A follower that possesses hidden ambitions.

Ulla – female, belt, 20 to 40
A strong singer/actress with excellent comedic skills is required. A good belt essential.
Ulla introduces herself as a Swedish actress looking for a part in Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom's production Springtime for Hitler. She is a stereotypical Swedish woman: tall and beautiful with blonde hair. She's uninhibited and very industrious.

Franz Liebkind – male, baritone, 30 to 50
Strong comic singer/actor required. Must have good German accent.
Franz Liebkind (whose name in English means "Frank Lovechild") is a former Nazi who has penned an admiring musical tribute to Adolf Hitler, titled Springtime for Hitler. Max and Leo purchase and produce this "worst play ever written" as part of a plot to defraud investors by overselling and staging a sure-fire flop.

Roger de Bris – male, baritone, 40 to 60
Strong singer/actor with excellent comedic skills.
Roger Elizabeth De Bris is a gay theatre director, described by Max Bialystock as the worst director to have ever lived. He lives with his over-the-top flamboyant partner Carmen Ghia and his production crew in a gayer than gay Upper East Side town house in New York. He's chosen by Bialystock to direct Springtime for Hitler to ensure that it will flop.

Carmen Ghia – male, tenor, 25 to 40
Strong singer/actor with excellent comedic skills.
Carmen Ghia is Roger De Bris' "common-law assistant". They are both gay and they love to flounce around their Upper East Side town house. Carmen possesses lots of attitude, but is completely devoted to Roger and his career.

The Ensemble
Excellent singer/dancer/actors
The large ensemble will play a variety of roles, many of them with lines, including Roger's staff, Usherettes, Theatre patrons, Stormtroppers (who tap), old ladies with walkers and many more roles.

For more information, please contact Eric Magnus, Artistic Director of
The Barn Players, at emagnitude@me.com

SYNOPSIS:
Dr. Martin Dysart, a psychiatrist, is confronted with Alan Strang, a boy who has blinded six horses in a violent fit of passion. This very passion is as foreign to Dysart as the act itself. To the boy's parents it is a hideous mystery; Alan has always adored horses. To Dysart it is a psychological puzzle that leads both doctor and patient to a complex and disturbingly dramatic confrontation. This international success reached new acclaim in London and on Broadway when revived in 2008.

THE STORY OF THE SHOW
"Once in the Highlands, the Highlands of Scotland, two weary hunters lost their way." It is this desolate situation which Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas, two young New Yorkers, are contemplating when the curtain rises on a misty glen in Scotland. As the two exhausted men reflect on what they have forsaken in the States for their present predicament, a lift in the Highland veil reveals to them the awakening village of Brigadoon; a village which comes into being for only one day in each century.
The strained and strange greetings of the villagers bedecked in 18th century costumes, who have gathered in the market square to sell their wares and to discuss the final wedding preparations of Jeannie MacLaren and the boyish Charlie Dalrymple, are softened for Tommy by his encounter with Jeannie's lovely sister, Fiona, and enlivened for Jeff by his reluctant entanglement with the maid, Meg Brockie.
The blissful occasion is momentarily tinged with gloom when the fate of Brigadoonis threatened by Harry Beaton, Jeannie's rejected suitor. And Tommy, now burdenedwith the knowledge of Brigadoon's secret and enraptured by the gentle charms of the beautiful Fiona, is confronted with the choice of remaining forever at the side of the Scottish lass or returning to the unsatisfying world familiar to him. At the close of the day he is still unable to commit himself without doubt or regret to Fiona and to Brigadoon, and leaves with Jeff for America.
Restless and unhappy in New York, Tommy finally yields to the haunting memory of Fiona and, guided by the faith and strength of his love, finds his way back to Brigadoon.
The misty mood of this Highland setting is strikingly complemented by bright 18th century costuming, contrasting the idyllic Brigadoon villagers with the malcontent young hunters. The fanciful flavor is augmented by superb choreography by Agnes de Mille which gracefully mingles the regional with the modern. An outstanding band orchestration by Philip J. Lang, as well as the standard orchestral accompaniment, offer a memorable resonance to the production.
Like Tommy, the audience delights in the whimsical loveliness of the Highlands, and it is with similar reluctance that they exit Brigadoon.

Show tunes include Almost Like Being in Love, The Heather on the Hill, There but for You Go I, Come to Me, Bend to Me, My Mother's Wedding Day, I'll Go Home with Bonnie Jean and Waitin' for My Dearie.
