Fox on the Fairway Auditions

RIVER CITY PLAYERS
ANNOUNCE
FALL PLAY AUDITIONS

The River City Players are calling all actors with or without experience. We will hold auditions for their fall comedy, FOX ON THE FAIRWAY by Ken Ludwig on Wednesday, September 5th, 2012 and Thursday, September 6th, 2012. Auditions will be held at the United Methodist Church in their Family Life Center. The church is located at 1211 South 13 Hwy, Lexington, MO 64067. Auditions will be held from from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The play is a tribute from Ken Ludwig (LEND ME A TENOR, MOON OVER BUFFALO) to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s, THE FOX ON THE FAIRWAY takes audiences on a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it's a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers' classics.
The cast calls for 3 men and 3 women of various ages (21 years and over). The audition process is informal. It will consist of cold readings from the script. Auditions may read for one or more parts. RCP welcomes all to audition with or without previous theater experience.
Crew members with or without experience are also needed to help with back stage responsibilities.
Play dates are November 2-3, 2012 and November 9-10, 2012. Sharon Propst will direct the production. The production will be held at United Methodist Church. The Church is located at 1211 South 13 Hwy, Lexington, MO 64067.
For more information, please visit the RCP web site at: www.rcplayers.org.

In the world of larval masks everything is at the edge of beginning. Building on neutrality of presence the actor begins to navigate space and physicality in exercises and improvisations that:- simplify and amplify gestures,- explore the mask as a moving structure in the space, with forms, trajectories, dynamic oppositions and to find the body who can reveal it,- explore the animalistic and fantastic dimension of the mask.

Heidi Van, Actor/Creator Co-Founder/Curator of Fishtank Performance Studio,
Producing Artistic Director of HYBRID: a theatre collective,

The: To Skit or Not to Skit - So, What's Behind That Wall? - Workshop

Byrd Productions and Happy Faces Entertainment are thrilled to present:
The: To Skit or Not to Skit - So, What's Behind That Wall? - Workshop by Julie Varholdt

To Skit or Not to Skit? That is the Question
Trying to find a funny skit for a show or competition and all your books are 15 to 50 years old and nothing is funny? What was funny back in 1960 may not be funny anymore and it may not be "politically correct‟ either. This class will show you how to rework it, reword it, and make it your own.

AND

What's Really Behind The Wall?
A hands on class that teaches you what's really behind that crazy accordion wall that hides the elevator, escalator, and the stairs. You will learn the techniques needed to go up and down the elevator, go forwards and backwards on the escalator, go up and down the stairs, and more! It's a total riot and one of the most fun times you'll have learning.

$30 for ages 16 and older
at The Just Off Broadway Theater
3051 Central, KCMO 64108

To reserve your spot go to www.byrdproductions.org and use our paypal button.
For more info call 816-305-8188

Open Audition Call for A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody

The River City Community Players announces an open call for auditions for its next patron production of A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody; written by Ron Bernas and directed by Jeff Adams.

Auditions will be held on September 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Leavenworth Performing Arts Center and on September 17 and 18 beginning at 7 p.m.

Audition Information: Cold readings from the script. All cast members must be 18 years old by October 26, 2012.

This six-character comedy is a spoof of and love letter to the screwball comedies of the 1930s and to stage mysteries in general. It is a one-set,
two-act piece featuring witty dialogue and slapstick comedy.

The play opens with the rich, bored Matthew promising to kill his rich, bored wife Julia so he can become a jet setter like his friend who recently lost his wife. Julia, who's always about three steps ahead of him, plays along. And so
the game begins - a hilarious year-long match of wits and the witless.

During the year the play takes place, there are several mysterious deaths that occur on the grounds of the family estate, a butler who is not what he seems, a detective who can't buy a clue, and two innocents (sort of) caught in the
hilarity as they plan their wedding. While Julia cleverly dodges Matthew's devious murder attempts, the Perry friends and staff are dying off mysteriously.

It seems Matthew is successful in murdering everyone but Julia. As the bodies fall, dim-witted daughter Bunny contemplates calling off her wedding to unwitting Donald since all the intended gift-bearing guests are dying. Enter Detective Plotnik - a Sam Spade reincarnation who suspects everyone, but hasn't a clue. That is, not until Donald stumbles upon Julia and
gentlemanly butler Buttram in what Donald mistakenly perceives as a compromising
situation.

Performances are October 26 and 27 at 8 p.m.; November 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m.; and a November 4 matinee at 2 p.m.

GUIDE TO SHOWS AT THE 2012 KC IMPROV FESTIVAL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/26/2012
For more information, including interviews
with featured performers, contact Tim Marks
at festival@kcimprov.com or 913-486-6861

2 FILM & TV STARS, 4 HEADLINERS, 17 COMEDY TROUPES:
HOW TO DECIDE WHO TO SEE AT THE 2012 KC IMPROV
FESTIVAL

There's a lot of funny coming to Kansas City September 7-
15...that's the whole point of a comedy festival, right? The
good news about the KC Improv Festival is that if you want
to, you can see and do everything and still fit in eating and
sleeping. And you can feel good about it—because every
ticket you buy benefits Gilda's Club Kansas City.

But if you want to tiptoe in, we get it. So we present this,
the Official Guide to Shows:

THE STARS
Paul F. Tompkins is a busy guy. With dozens of film (There
Will Be Blood, Anchorman) and TV (Best Week Ever, Mr.
Show) credits, half a dozen comedy albums, regular live
shows in LA, and several top-rated podcasts to his credit,
he's equally comfortable with standup and improv, drama
and comedy, and every media known to fans. Rolling Stone
rated his Pod F. Tompkast first in their "10 Best Comedy
Podcasts of the moment last year. In September, he joins
his friends in the popular Superego podcast as they return
to KCiF for the second year.

Turns out Superego has lots of famous friends...they'll also
be performing with Colin Hanks, known for films like
Orange County and King Kong and TV shows like Band of
Brothers, Dexter and Mad Men. (His dad has a few movies
under his belt, too.)

THE HEADLINERS
Superego (Sept. 7-8) got connected with KCiF through
member Jeremy Carter, who got his start with local troupe
ComedyCity (also performing at the festival). Their
improvised podcast debuted in 2006, with Carter and Matt
Gourley presenting case studies of characters with
personality disorders. KCiF is one of the few events where
fans get a chance to see them perform live.

Bassprov (Sept. 14-15) is one of the best-known acts on
the comedy festival circuit, and another encore
performance for KCiF. Joe Bill and Mark Sutton portray Earl
and Donny, two guys from Indiana who fish and talk. The
New York Times describes their work as "wordplay,
character quirks and quicksilver wit."

Don Tremendous (Sept. 14-15) is KC native Tim Mason,
who just "retired" from The Second City, with his two
Mainstage buddies Tom Flannigan and Andy St. Clair. At
"the temple of satire,” the majority of their work winds up
scripted; at KCiF, they'll show off their improv roots.

Twinprov (Sept. 13-14) is a pair of upbeat, Oklahoma City
natives who look like anything but freestyle rappers...but
their shows have blown minds in arena concerts, on Last
Call with Carson Daly, at TEDxOU, and all over YouTube.

THE OUT-OF-TOWNERS
Der Monkenpickel (Sept. 8) reunites Superego's Jeremy
Carter with his ComedyCity troupe, including LA
screenwriter Ed Goodman and Second City "BoatCo"
member Corey Rittmaster.

Confidence Men (Sept. 8) comes out of Austin, TX, with a
completely improvised play in the style of David Mamet.

ShawnMikeal (Sept. 14), a duo from DC, populates scenes
with multiple characters and jumps through time and
space.

ImprovBoston (Sept. 15) blends skillful storytelling,
memorable music and audience participation into joyful
chaos.

And, of course, every show features favorite local acts:
Festival producers, The KC Improv Company
KC's original improv troupe, ComedyCity
Long-running groups Babel Fish and Tantrum
Up-and-coming talents Chess with Death, Little Bear and
Holy Cow

For the first time, we're happy to announce 15 percent of
all proceeds benefit Gilda's Club, which provides a free
support community for adults and children diagnosed with
cancer, along with their families and caring friends. Named
for Gilda Radner—an improviser best known as one of
Saturday Night Live's original "Not Ready for Prime Time
Players"—it's a cause close to all of our hearts.

Tickets range in price from $5-$20 and are available at
http://kcimprovfestival.com, where you'll also a full show
schedule and news about special events and classes taught
by guest artists.

------------------

The KC Improv Company puts on shows and classes at the
Kick Comedy Theater in Westport every week, and has
performed at comedy festivals in New York, Chicago, and
around the country. Their actor-comedians also perform
the Kick Comedy show monthly at the world-famous
Improv Comedy Club in Zona Rosa, and at dozens of private
events every year.

Kansas City Kansas Community College's Department of Theatre will be holding auditions for their fall productions of Dracula and Hairspray on August 27, 2012. Auditions will be held in the Performing Arts Center on the college campus at 7250 state Avenue in Kansas City, KS from 2:30-6:30 p.m.

Please prepare a contemporary, one-minute, memorized monologue. Those auditioning for Hairspray should prepare 16 bars of music from
two songs - one ballad, one upbeat. Please bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided.

The Plays:

Dracula by Steven Dietz (based upon the novel by Bram Stoker)
6 men; 4 women

THE STORY: This new adaptation restores the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker's classic novel to the stage. As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the residents of London, they try to piece together the clues of his appearances—in a valiant attempt to save themselves from a hideous fate. Rich with both humor and horror, this play paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker's famous vampire.

Hairspray, the musical, is based on the 1988 John Waters' film of the same name.

HAIRSPRAY, winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs.

It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire -- to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!

12th Night,or What You Will LAST WEEKEND!

She&Her Productions*

She&Her Productions
Twelfth Night, or What You Will by William
Shakespeare: Aug 10-26: 8 pm Fri-Sat, Mon; 2 pm
Sun
August 10… She&Her Productions opens their 2012-13
Season in style with Shakespeare's Twelfth Night,
or What you Will in the newly renovated Just Off
Broadway Theatre. This, the most musical of The
Bard's plays, comes with original music, newly
composed by the play's director, Jeremy Riggs and
promises to be an interesting take on one of the
most beloved and preformed of Shakespeare's great
comedy plays.

Twelfth Night is arguably the most human of all of
the comedies written by Shakespeare.. It contains
something that is so real to the human experience
that it is impossible to walk away without
recognizing some of ourselves in the characters.
It seems to catch the elements of loss, love and
pain that make humanity the feeling creatures that
we are. The director, Jeremy Riggs, uses this
information in his approach to the play, causing a
somewhat darker feel. Under his direction he is
attempting to find the real sense of the emotion
as the play moves through its assigned scenes.
According to Riggs, by putting the focus on the
reality of the situation in which the characters
find themselves, an honesty arises that makes one
recognize and empathize with the characters in the
play.

Although a somewhat darker approach is taken,
there are still plenty of laughs in the show.
From the preening, self-loving Malvolio and the
loud, over-lubricated Sir Toby, to the fun loving
and witty Feste and the boisterous, dim-witted Sir
Andrew all weaving themselves in and out of the
story, building a web of deceit and revenge that
ends with hilarity and madness.

Riggs, in addition to directing, also lends his
expertise as a stunt and fight director to the
action of the play. Several daring duels, very
much in the spirit of Robin Hood and The Princess
Bride have been staged. The combatants, Fight
Captained by Garrett Lawson, who also plays Sir
Andrew Aguecheek, swing rapiers and fists as the
plays fights progress the narrative.

Twelfth Night, or What You Will opens August 10th
and runs weekends through August 26th. All Show
at 8:00 PM except Sunday Matinees at 2:00 PM.
All performances will be at the Just Off Broadway
Theatre, located at 31st Street and Broadway in
Kansas City, MO.

Directed by Jeremy Riggs.

KCAT showing The Real Inspector Hound
August 31 - September 5

A very funny, somewhat absurdist take on the Mystery genre from the acclaimed, award-winning playwright Tom Stoppard. Those who caught The Mousetrap will see the same fine actors once again playing eccentric characters in a Christie-esque murder mystery. Only this time, the play is observed by a pair of equally eccentric theatre critics who muse on matters from the existential to the lustful, in between bouts of actually critiquing the performance. Things take a weird turn when the critics find themselves "pulled in" to the mystery in a very real way.

12th Night,or What You Will runs THIS FRIDAY,SAT!! Dont missit!

La Cage Aux Folles at Starlight August 28-September 2

LA CAUGE AUX FOLLES STARRING GEORGE HAMILTON, CHRISTOPHER SIEBER COMING TO STARLIGHT AUGUST 28-SEPTEMBER 2
La Cage revival makes its Kansas City debut

The critically acclaimed production of La Cage Aux Folles starring George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber is making its Starlight Theatre debut August 28 – September 2.

La Cage Aux Folles tells the story of Georges (George Hamilton), the owner of a glitzy nightclub in lovely Saint-Tropez, and his partner Albin (Christopher Sieber), who moonlights as the glamorous chanteuse Zaza. When Georges' son brings his fiancée's conservative parents home to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test as the feather boas fly! La Cage Aux Folles is a tuneful and touching tale of one family's struggle to stay together... stay fabulous... and above all else, stay true to themselves! Audiences will also remember the storyline of La Cage from the popular 1996 movie "The Birdcage."

"It's kind of a situation comedy with great Jerry Herman tunes (Hello Dolly, Mame). He's one of the greatest musical theatre composers of all time," said Denton Yockey, president and executive producer of Starlight Theatre.

"I've seen two Broadway revivals of La Cage and I laugh every time. It's just a fun, friendly show with great music, plus this production has the legendary George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber, one of Broadways best working actors," he said. "Take away the men in drag and it's just a show about family."

La Cage Aux Folles recently made Tony Awards history as the first show to ever win the Tony Award three times for best production. The classic musical comedy by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein originally won six Tony Awards in 1984, including Best Musical. A Broadway revival won two 2005 Tony Awards including the Best Revival of a Musical prize. The new, freshly reconceived La Cage won three 2010 Tony Awards including

Best Revival of a Musical and Best Director of a Musical (Terry Johnson). The production is also the winner of three Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Director of a Musical (Terry Johnson) and the Drama League Award for Distinguished Revival of a Musical.

George Hamilton, noted for his handsome looks, charming personality, jet-setter image and perpetually bronzed skin tones, has appeared in commercials, dramatic and comedic film roles and reality shows. He performed several roles in numerous films but is best known for MGM films in the 1960s' Where the Boys Are, a coming-of-age romantic comedy in which Hamilton played a smooth Ivy League type. He has made two memorable bio-pics: Your Cheatin' Heart in 1964, in which he portrayed the country-western music legend Hank Williams and in 1971, Evel Knievel, the life story of the motorcycle daredevil. He was nominated for a Golden Globe as the campy neck-biter in the Dracula spoof Love at First Bite (1979), which he executive-produced, and continued on the parody road successfully with Zorro, the Gay Blade (1981). Hamilton has been seen in a string of fun commercials, hosting beauty pageants and making breezy gag appearances. He has broken through the "reality show" ranks by hosti!
ng "The Family" (2003) and participating in the second season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" (2005). Hamilton made his Broadway debut in Chicago; other stage credits include The Star-Spangled Girl (national tour); Funny Girl, The Philadelphia Story, Gigi and Barefoot in the Park.

Co-starring with Hamilton, is two time Tony Award nominee and Broadway veteran, Christopher Sieber who makes his road debut in the role of "Albin." Most recently, Sieber appeared on Broadway as "Georges" opposite Harvey Fierstein in the Tony Award-winning revival of La Cage Aux Folles. Sieber received a Tony nomination for his performances in Shrek and Spamalot. Broadway credits also include Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Into the Woods, and Beauty and the Beast to name a few. His television and film credits include "Morning Glory," "Pushing Daisies," "Johnny and the Sprites," "See You in September," "It's All Relative," "Two of a Kind," "Sex and the City," "Ed," "Guiding Light," "All My Children" and "Another World."

La Cage Aux Folles is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, David Babani and Fran and Barry Weissler in association with NETworks Presentations. The creative team includes director Terry Johnson, who won a 2010 Tony Award for his La Cage direction, choreographer Lynne Page, set designer Tim Shortall, costume designer Matthew Wright, lighting designer Nick Richings, sound designer Jonathan Deans and orchestrator/musical supervisor Todd Ellison.
