SUBLIME STUPIDITY II: In this weekend intensive workshop, the clown takes the next step in his or her life! She now gets to play with other clowns and to learn more about herself.

Building on the work done in Sublime Stupidity I, we move from solo work into playing in duos and trios, creating through structured improvisation. We begin the vocal resonance work, through which each clown finds his unique 'voice.' The clown journeys from playing using only her body and/or pre-verbal sounds into playing and creating utilizing speech - maybe even song! ... And that's when it gets even funnier :o).

The student develops his ability to maintain and nourish his clown form, thereby deepening and energizing the clown state.

ELIZABETH BARON is an award-winning teacher, director, actor and collaborative theater-maker. She leads mask, voice, acting, red nose, and movement workshops and classes throughout the US and Internationally. She is part of the teaching team at GIOVANNI FUSETTI's international school of theater creation – HÈLIKOS: Scuola Internazionale di Creazione Teatrale, in Florence, Italy. Elizabeth holds an MFA in Lecoq Based Actor-Created Physical Theater, from Naropa University/London International School of the Performing Arts (LISPA.)

She is known for her compassionate, humor-filled teaching style, and her deep love of and belief in the power of the Red Nose to unlock our hidden, delightful selves. Liz sees this work as an invaluable tool for the artist, connecting us to an endless source of creativity and poetry, and providing a treasure trove of insight and inspiration. All while being very stupid.

Liz is a generous and committed artist and a sensitive, hearted and insightful teacher. Her clown, Mowanna, taught me about vulnerability and the openness of the clown heart. I am delighted to recommend her as a clown teacher: she will joyfully cast the spell of the red nose onto you.

SUBLIME STUPIDITY: The focus of this weekend intensive workshop is on giving birth to your clown. The clown is based on you – your body, your movement, and many elements of you as yet unnoticed and/or un-celebrated. The tools we use to help you discover and begin to play as your clown are drawn from myriad Mask and Movement-Theater techniques and traditions. By identifying and learning to glory in what is uniquely and inherently stupid about each of us, we begin to know and embody our clowns. Ironically, these qualities, which we often are unaware of and/or struggle to keep hidden from those around us, are in fact the gateways to hysterically funny, profound and sublimely simple work.

This approach to clown is rigorous in terms of physicality and specificity. Participants will be asked to listen to themselves and to the reactions of the 'audience' (the rest of the class) with the intense curiosity of a scientist. Through the workshop, participants will gain the skills and insight to create in the moment, based on this 'listening.' They will also laugh a lot, quite hard, and probably be moved to tears by the other clowns. This blend of rigorous technique and laughter combines to birth and nurture the first days of play in the lives of each participant's clown.

The workshop is useful for performers and non-performers, alike! It helps us tap into a resource hidden inside each of us, providing us with insight, creativity and freedom for years to come.

Your Bouffon mythology from Audrey:
Cursed with the mis-fortune of a grotesque appearance, and compulsion to push the limits of decency and morality, you are deemed less than human. You are beaten and driven from your home. Outside of the village, you band together with other bouffon creating your own bizarre community. Forever tormented by the rejection, you are obsessed with the society from which you were unjustly cast, and spend your time observing the villagers, their hypocrisy, and personal private vices.

Once a year, foolishly, the villagers invite you and your friends back to the village for a festival, so they can secretly mock and ridicule your physical imperfections. Seeing the perfect opportunity to enact your revenge, you all offer to bring a show. Reveling in the perverse attention and using wit, parody and charm the you and your tribe devise the most clever ways of slipping seeds of doubt, guilt and truth under the skin of the villagers, in hopes it will resurface later to destroy their precious society.

Emporia State University Theatre presents "As You Like It"

PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release

ESU Theatre presents Shakespeare's Comedy "As You Like It"

ESU Theatre is proud to present As You Like It, Shakespeare's beloved comedy about love and mistaken identity. As You Like It begins with political intrigue at court and ends with love in the woods. The confusions abound.

Orlando (Landon Noll, senior, Winchester) loves Rosalind (Lisa Tinker, senior, Derby) and writes really bad love poetry to her. Rosalind loves Orlando, but she's dressed as a boy, so Phebe (Fran Opheim, freshman, Overland Park) falls in love with him, even though he is really a she. Silvius (Dustin Bittel, freshman, Ellis) loves Phebe and Touchstone (Logan Wohlford, junior, Valley Center) loves Audrey (Sydney Main, sophomore, Emporia), who also loves him, but what about William (Ryan Scully, senior, Winchester) who loves her?

And in the end, Rosalind's best friend Celia (Miranda Nation, junior, Winfield) falls in love with Oliver (Colter Lemmon, senior, Crawford, NE) who is Orlando's brother. Duke Senior (Nathan Short, junior, Paola) loves the woods and Jacques (Brandon Jensen, senior, Salina) just loves his melancholy. The play might be Shakespeare's most profound examination of love in all its guises.

As You Like It is under the direction of Jim Bartruff. The production stage manager is Michael Abbott (senior, Great Bend), with assistance from Tyler Lang (sophomore, Wichita). Nancy Pontius is the production designer and junior Elizabeth Kennell (Belton, MO) will design the lights. Susan Mai will design costumes. Other students in the cast include Emmanuel Cockrell (junior, Junction City), John Alfrey (senior, Topeka), John Stafford (senior, Independence) and Nick Coyan (junior, Lenexa). Rod Jones (Emporia) will provide live music on guitar.

As You Like It runs April 21st through 26th in the Ronald Q. Fredrickson Theatre. For tickets or more information, contact the box office at 620-341-6378.

SITPLOT 8 Loves Labours Lost Auditions

Alcott Arts Center
(Community)

Auditions are tomorrow for this years
Shakespeare in the Parking Lot Production!
Loves Labours Lost by William Shakespeare
Directed by Susan Proctor PhD.
Mar 14: 10 am to 1 pm Saturday
Performance dates are September 12,13,19 & 20, 2015
This is one of Shakespeare's earliest comedies, probably written
in 1580s. It may have been first performed in 1588. It was
certainly performed in 1597.The play tells the tale of the King of
Navarre and his three friends who swear off of women for one
year. Except the Princess of France and her three friends come
on a diplomatic mission.
Also, the play spoofs the academics, the Spanish, the local
constable, and the country lads and lasses.
It is a play about love (at least 5 couples) which sets men's wits
against women's.
There are 16 named characters, 6 men, 5 women, and 5 can be
either.
Another character in this play is definitely language. The king
and his, friends all write a bit of poetry, some better than others.

What to do? We will be holding cold readings, please bring head
shots, resume's and any conflicts in scheduling if you have them.

For auditions, I would like to hear you read and perhaps dance a
bit.
Everyone is welcome to audition above the age of nine.

Alcott is not heated, so Dress To Stay Warm!
Call if you have any questions!

Kansas City, MO, March 10, 2015 — Jamie Campbell – Tell Me You're Proud of Me Tour – April 3, 2015 – 10pm (with improv by The KC Improv Company)

Jamie Campbell has been a stand-out for years in Chicago's world-famous comedy scene. With the release of his debut album, "Tell Me You're Proud of Me" (http://www.amazon.com/Tell-Me-Youre-Proud-Explicit/dp/B00SQLSZWK) – currently #14 on the Amazon comedy charts – he is set to make waves nationally.

He has been heralded as a "bombastic genius" by Dan Telfer of Comedy Central's @midnight. Ryan Budds, producer on MTV2's Ridiculousness calls Jamie "one of the fastest and funniest comedians and actors I've ever worked with."

A favorite on the festival circuit, Campbell was specially-selected by the sister of the late Andy Kaufman to perform in Chicago's TBS Just for Laughs Festival. Over the past year, Jamie has appeared at The Kansas City Improv Festival, the New Orleans Comedy Arts Festival, Austin's Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, The Cleveland Comedy Festival, The Columbus Unscripted Improv Festival, The Big-Little Comedy Festival, and Gilda's Laughfest.

In Chicago, Jamie is a regular at Laugh Factory, and is a founding member of stand-up collective 100 Proof Comedy. In 2013, he was named Chicago's "Best Stand-Up" in The Chicago Reader's annual Best of Chicago issue. He also hosts the weekly podcast, "Talk Hard", the flagship show on The Rebellion Network. One of the nation's top improv performers, his recent appearance on Jimmy Carrane's popular "Improv Nerd" podcast put him in the company of a veritable "Who's Who" in the world of comedy, including Bob Odenkirk, Key & Peele, Jeff Garlin, and Broad City.

As an actor, Jamie had a stand-out appearance in last year's indie feature "Sex Ain't Love." He has a starring role in the upcoming film, "Dirtbags", from award-winning screenwriter Dale Zawada, and will make his network television debut in NBC's hit series "Chicago Fire" in 2015. You may also recognize him from his appearance in KFC's popular #HowDoYouKFC ad campaign.

Jamie Campbell is a founding member of improv/hiphop juggernaut "Rapture", has been a touring guest performer with "Baby Wants Candy." He is an original member of The Annoyance Theatre's House Ensemble and performs professionally with The ComedySportz Theatre in Chicago, IL. He also co-wrote the musical, "Four Play", which Broadway World named "The Best New Work in Chicago Theatre."

Jamie will also join the cast of Presto, the Musical! by The KC Improv Company, as a special guest!
