About FROST/NIXON
Richard M. Nixon has just resigned the United
States presidency in total disgrace over
Vietnam and the Watergate scandal. British
talk-show host David Frost has become a lowbrow
laughing-stock. Determined to resurrect his
career, Frost risks everything on a series of
in-depth interviews in order to extract an
apology from Nixon. The cagey Nixon, however,
is equally bent on redeeming himself in his
nation's eyes. In the television age, image is
king, and both men are desperate to outtalk and
upstage each other as the cameras roll. The
result is the interview that sealed a
president's legacy.

To provoke thought, emotion, action, and change
through daring and innovative theatre…

my article on Social Shakespeare in Stage Directions

Let's get this out of the way: no, I'm not back in KC - I'm
still in LA. ;-)

Hi, all! Long time no hear, if you're not friends with me
on Facebook. Anyhow, I wanted to share with you that I
have an article up on Stage Directions on the Social
Shakespeare Tumblr that does readings of Shakespeare
via social media. If you are a fan of bringing the bard to
new areas, this would be right up your alley.

You can check out other things I've written over on my
website, www.angiefsutton.com. Mostly non-theatre
related lately, but still of interest and has my old blog,
Stage Savvy, wrapped into it.

Thanks for listening!

ESU Theatre presents "Creating Claire"

For immediate release
ESU Theatre presents contemporary drama "Creating Claire"

Emporia State University Theatre Department is proud to present the contemporary drama Creating Claire by Joe DiPietro as the second show of the 2015 – 2016 season. Under the direction of ESU faculty member Theresa Mitchell, Creating Claire is the story of a middle-aged natural museum docent, Claire (Cassidy Tilden, sophomore, Topeka), who comes under fire when her tour-guide patter deviates from the strict scientific beliefs of Victoria, the director of the museum.

As Claire heads down a path that embraces intelligent design, many visitors are attracted to her spiritual slant; it soon leads to legal action in a powerful exploration of what happens when science, faith and politics collide. It also takes a real toll on the lives of her husband (Cameron Reynolds, junior, Louisburg) and their daughter (Roman Haen, sophomore, Lee's Summit, MO). Roxy Hopkins, sophomore, Wamego, plays the Museum Director.

Assisting Theresa Mitchell with the production are the production stage manager Dustin Bittel (sophomore, Ellis) and assistant stage manager Nathan Dale Short (senior, Paola). Michael Abbott (senior, Great Bend) is designing the set and Nancy J. Pontius is the lighting designer. Amanda Dura will design the costumes. Andrew McCutcheon (senior, Garden City) is the sound designer.

Creating Claire runs November 18th through 21st at 7:30 pm. There will also be 2:00 pm matinees on November 21st and 22nd. All performances will be in the Ronald Q. Frederickson Theatre on the Emporia State University campus. Tickets can be reserved at the Memorial Union box office or by calling 620-341-6378.

Theatre for Young America Raise the Rent (and the Roof) Party

Kansas City, MO (September 16, 2015) –Get your
Great Gatsby on and celebrate with Theatre for
Young America as it launches its 42nd year of
providing quality theatre programming for
Kansas City's children with a "rent party" gala
at the H&R Block City Stage in Union Station,
October 3, 2015. Guests will be treated to a
fabulous evening of fun, food and entertainment
at Theatre for Young America's "Raisin' the
Rent (And the Roof)!" party. The festivities
begin at 5:00 p.m. with delectable appetizers
from Pierpont's. A cash bar will be provided.
Then, starting at 6:00 p.m., revelers will be
entertained by the uproarious improvisational
comedy of Business of Otters, music by Kansas
City icon Danny Cox, and vocals by TYA's own
Valerie Mackey. Raffles, a silent auction and
games for young and old will cap off the
evening fund-raiser. Admission to the Speakeasy
is only $15.

Since Theatre for Young America's inception in
1974, the company has committed itself to
developing a child's life-long relationship
with theatre. The prevailing goal is to
encourage the educational and emotional growth
of young people through arts-based experiences.
To reach this goal, TYA has produced over 200
productions, including dozens of new and
commissioned plays as well as many of the most
acclaimed plays for young audiences by
established playwrights. TYA has developed
dozens of new plays and musical based on
classic and popular children's literature,
historical figures and current social issues,
such as child sexual abuse, child care, and
conflict resolution. As the oldest children's
theatre in Kansas City, TYA was the first to
introduce a full-time Director of Education.
This educational component enables TYA to
provide after school enrichment classes in
drama, summer drama workshops, outreach lesson
plans taught in area schools and youth centers,
and study guides to augment every production.

Theatre for Young America's 42nd season, which
begins October 13, 2015 and runs through June
24, 2016, demonstrates our commitment to enrich
and educate children through the arts. This
year six productions, SkippyJon Jones, Legend
of Sleepy Hollow, The Best Christmas Pageant
Ever, Junie B. Jones-the Musical, The Life and
Times of the Three Little Pigs and Jack and the
Beanstalk are based directly upon children's
literature. Another production, The Toughest
Kid in the World, highlights the problem
children face when dealing with conflict and
offers constructive ways for children to handle
it. Funds raised at "Raisin' the Rent (And the
Roof)!" will allow TYA to continue to offer
excellent entertainment and arts education to
the community it serves.

ABOUT KARI MARGOLIS
Kari Margolis is a playwright, director, master teacher, performer, keynote speaker, and published author. She is co-founder of the international touring MB ADAPTORS Company, established in New York City in 1984. She has conceived and directed seventeen critically acclaimed productions that have toured nationally and internationally in South America, Europe and Asia. Her original work also includes site-specific performances for such places as the Brooklyn Museum, the Minnesota Science Museum, the Roebling Bridge NY, and the beach at Coney Island, NY.

Kari has been a Master Teacher at the Kennedy Center for the American College Theatre Festival for fifteen years. She served on the Theatre Faculty of the University of Minnesota/Twin Cities and played an integral role in reshaping the Acting Program to focus on the actor as creator.

Kari has run the Margolis Method Center Int'l since 1984, in New York City, Minneapolis and now in Highland Lake NY where she reaches an international student body of over fifty artists per season. A Margolis Method Center is now in development in Barcelona, Spain.

Kari conducts master classes, extended residencies and lecture demonstrations throughout the United States and internationally. Along with her own work, Kari has created original theatre productions for several University Theatre Programs and works as a freelance director.

Kari's theatre work and research have been recognized with: Six National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, a Pew/TCG National Artist Fellowship, a Creative Capital National Artist Fellowship, a NY "Bessie" Performance Award, multiple McKnight Foundation Fellowships, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Bush Foundation Fellowship, and a Brooklyn Arts Council Outstanding Achievement in the Arts Award among several other prestigious awards and fellowships.

ABOUT MARGOLIS METHOD
Margolis Method has been developed over the last thirty years by Kari Margolis and has achieved international recognition as a methodology for empowering theatre artists to own their craft. Margolis Method takes all the mystery out of acting by offering tangible, practicable exercises that allow the actor to build and hone their skills like a true craftsperson.

Margolis Method organically synthesizes the vital connections between muscular and vocal expression and merges the skill sets of acting, directing and playwriting to build what we call the "Actor Warrior."

Margolis Method is not an aesthetic but a comprehensive series of highly theatrical exercises based on the universal principles of physics and communication. Training in the Method strengthens theatre artists in any theatrical style or aesthetic, ranging from abstract experimental to linear text-based plays. Students will be able to take with them practicable exercises and deep insights into new ways of looking at theatre.

Founder Kari Margolis drew early research inspiration from the philosophies and work of such artists as Etienne Decroux, Jerzy Grotowski and Bertolt Brecht. The synthesis of such philosophies gave her the foundation for what she considers true theatre artistry -- the ability to tap into and shape one's personal visceral impulses in a way that transforms them into universal ideas that can reach the most diverse of audiences.
