JCCC, Department of Music and Theatre

The Mystery of Edwin Drood by Rupert Holmes

Directed by Chris McCoy

Open Call Aug 27-28: 6-9 pm Mon-Tue, invited callbacks Aug 29-30

This play kicks off when the Music Hall Royale (a loony Victorian musical troupe) "puts on" its flamboyant rendition of an unfinished Dickens mystery. The story itself deals with John Jasper, a Jekyll-and-Hyde choirmaster who is madly in love with his music student, the fair Miss Rosa Bud. Miss Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper's nephew, young Edwin Drood. Our title character disappears mysteriously one stormy Christmas Eve-but has Edwin Drood been murdered? And if so, then whodunnit?

Open auditions Aug. 27-28 in the Bodker Black Box Theatre, Carlsen Center for the Performing Arts, Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd.

Prepare a 1-2 minute monologue along with 32 bars from a traditional musical. Bring appropriate sheet music. No accapella singing.

Rehearsals begin Sept. 10th. Performances Nov. 9-11, 16-18.
