The Barn Players are seeking…
Directors
For
Our 60th Anniversary season
of plays and musicals.



PROCESS:
Submit a letter of application to The Barn Players, along with your resume. Please indicate your choice of show in the application letter, include your vision for the production and your reasons for applying for that particular show. In addition, please include a second show that you would like us to consider during the interview process.

An interview will then be scheduled with the Artistic Director, the Assistant Artistic Director and one other members of The Barn board of directors

DEADLINE TO APPLY: June 30th, 2014

INTERVIEWS: Will be scheduled from July 1st – July 16th, by appointment only.

Directors will be announced following the August 9th board meeting.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story, and it's every father's nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met. And if that weren't upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he's never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's 'normal' boyfriend and his parents. Nominated for two Tony Awards during the 2011 – 2012 Broadway season.

SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION May 31 – June 14

Inspired by a true story, the play follows the trail of a young black con man, Paul, who insinuates himself into the lives of a wealthy New York couple, Ouisa and Flan Kittredge, claiming he knows their son at college. Paul tells them he is the son of actor Sidney Poitier, and that he has just been mugged and all his money is gone. Captivated by Paul's intelligence and his fascinating conversation (and the possibility of appearing in a new Sidney Poitier movie), the Kittredges invite him to stay. Winner of the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play in 1991.

Dr. Martin Dysart, a psychiatrist, is confronted with Alan Strang, a boy who has blinded six horses in a violent fit of passion. This very passion is as foreign to Dysart as the act itself. To the boy's parents it is a hideous mystery; Alan has always adored horses. To Dysart it is a psychological puzzle that leads both doctor and patient to a complex and disturbingly dramatic confrontation. This international success reached new acclaim in London and on Broadway when revived in 2008. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Foreign Play and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best in 1975.

THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is a high-spirited, zany new 1920's musical that took Broadway by storm, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical in the 2001 – 2002 season. Taking place in New York City in 1922, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. Based on the popular 1967 movie.

A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive "Springtime For Hitler"), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. Winner of a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, during the 2000 – 2001 Broadway season.
