Sacred Geometrix at the H & R Block City Stage Theater at Union Station.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 20, 2012

CONTACT: Andrea Skowronek, Artistic Co-Director (816) 210-1192 cell or andreaskowronek@yahoo.com

City in Motion Dance Theater will present its professional company concert, entitled Sacred Geometrix, on Friday, April 27; Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the H & R Block City Stage Theater at Union Station.

Sacred Geometrix refers both to the sacred act of artistic creation and the linear and curved shapes in space formed by the human body. The concert will feature new choreography for the professional dance company by artistic co-directors Andrea Skowronek, Dale Fellin and Stephanie Whittler as well as dances by company members Amanda January, Ann Shaughnessy and Tuesday Faust.

Andrea Skowronek will premiere Fractals, for six dancers in three sections set to music by Steve Reich. Fractals are "rough or fragmented geometric shapes that can be split into parts, each of which is a reduced-size copy of the whole". While fractals are a mathematical construct, their patterns are found in nature, which has inspired their inclusion in artwork. Ms. Skowronek uses repetition, coupling, theme & variation and the manipulation of patterns and shapes in this evocative new work.

Dale Fellin's dance, Anudu,, with tribal, didgeridoo music by Ash Dargan, premiered at
A Modern Night at the Folly on February 18, 2012. "Physical, musical, and thrilling, Anudu brought down the house." David Ollington, kcactive.com

Mr. Fellin will also present a trio entitled Siamo, with music by Deru. Siamo explores the beauty and drama of both form and shape through the process of construction and deconstruction.

A duet, (as yet untitled) by Mr. Fellin with music by Vittorio Grigolo will provide a voyeuristic journey into the workings of male and female energies.

Stephanie Whittler will present her trio, Dysmorphia, with the quiet passion and anguished lyricism of the British rock band Placebo. The dancer's movements express emotional struggles, desperation and the occasional blur of reality.

Ms. Whittler will also present a group piece for six dancers entitled Steel Dreams, with music composed by Benoit Jutras from Cirque du Soleil – Quidam.

Amanda January will premiere Parts of Sleep, a group piece in three sections with music by Jobim, Nick Van Bloss, and Chris Brubeck. This lighthearted work explores insomnia, dreams, and the altered state that teeters between sleeping and waking.

Ann Shaughnessy will perform her solo, Bi'Ann, with Celtic music by Kila. This athletic tour d'force premiered at the Fringe Festival in July 2011.

Tuesday Faust will present a new duet inspired by her recent honeymoon in Italy.

City in Motion Dance Theater's Sacred Geometrix will be presented on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 PM at the H & R Block City Stage Theater at Union Station located at 30 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO 64108. A silent auction will take place on Saturday, April 28 in the lobby. Tickets for Sacred Geometrix are $18 in advance, $15 for students, seniors, and Union Station members, $10 for children 12 and under, and $20 at the door.
