MTH to bring back Jacques Brel!

MUSICAL THEATER HERITAGE PRESENTS...
Jacques Brel; The Life & Music of a Legend
Off Center Theatre - Crown Center

In 2003 -in a rare stroke of inspiration - George Harter and Nathan Granner decided to put on a show featuring the songs of Belgian singer/ songwriter
Jacques Brel….for reasons neither of them can recall.

It may have been that they really wanted to produce "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris"; except, that in 2003 Brel had been dead some 26
years. So Nathan hired local composer/ arranger Brad Cox to arrange fifteen of Brel's songs for a Tango Band and four singers and George wrote a simple
narrative to tie them together. There result was only three performances on the Belger Cartage Company loading dock that –apparently - no one has forgotten.

At least once a month for the past ten years someone has asked George: "When are you going to bring back the Jacques Brel?"

Now – at last – the answer is: Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8th at the Off Center Theater at Crown Center. Three performances only.

The songs of Jacques Brel written and performed by him in Paris in the late 1950's through the early 1970's are powerful, violent, passionate songs of the
human spirit, with each one like a small theater piece.

Some will be sung in English, some in French. Highlights will include AMSTERDAM, IF WE ONLY HAD LOVE, JACKY (Chanson de Jacky, OLD FOLKS (Les Vieux, SONG OF
AGING LOVERS (Chanson des Vieux Amants), MARIEKE, MARIEKE, MADELEINE, LES BOURGEOIS and, of course his most well-known song of all NE ME QUITTE PAS, better
known as IF YOU GO AWAY.
