News Release: Coterie Theatre Holding Casting Call for Youth Actors

WHAT: Open Call Audition for young adult performers ages 11-17 who are seeking professional acting apprenticeships for selected plays in The Coterie's upcoming main stage season. Productions with youth apprenticeship roles (acting alongside adult professionals) will be the musical RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER™ and DR. SEUSS' THE CAT IN THE HAT. Musical theatre teens skilled at character work are particularly welcome; principal roles available.

WHEN: Choose from either Friday, March 14, 2014, at 4 p.m., or Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. Auditions are first come/first served with no appointments being taken. No phone calls please.

WHERE: The Coterie Theatre, Crown Center Shops, 2450 Grand Blvd., KCMO. (Friday auditioners, please bring parking stub in for validation.)

WHO: Youth must be at least 11 years old on the date of the audition (no younger) to attend this call. Teens 18 years and older may make an appointment for the adult auditions held in May. Check The Coterie website for details: www.thecoterie.org/auditions.

PREPARATION: Auditioning youth should prepare a memorized monologue, at least 1 minute in length but no longer than 2 minutes, of a character close to his or her age. No poetry or Shakespeare please. In case called upon, have "My Country 'tis of Thee" prepared to sing acapella (without accompaniment). In addition, students are asked to bring a resume and a photograph of themselves (school photos may be used).

CAN'T ATTEND? There will be no additional open call times for youth, so please do not ask. However, youth ages 11-17 who have missed this call may take any Coterie Audition Lab class this spring or summer, or participate in one of The Coterie's summer performance camps and still be considered for casting.

The Coterie Theatre is dedicated to multi-ethnic, non-traditional casting.
