Union Station leaders are thrilled to debut the new theatre with the special advance screening and then to offer daily show times of Disney's 3D spectacular film, "Oz The Great and Powerful." Then, the first public showing will be offered on Thursday, March 7 at 9 p.m. before the movie officially opens on Friday, on March 8. On March 8, Union Station will offer five daily show times of the Disney 3D movie for a limited engagement.
"How fitting it is that Union Station will feature one of Disney's most awaited films as the opening movie in our new Extreme Screen Theatre inside of this iconic building," said George Guastello, Union Station president and CEO. "It is a film that is set in Kansas and the wonderful land of Oz and comes from Walt Disney's company – a man who started here and his entrepreneurial spirit has meant so much to Kansas City. Creating this wonderful and dramatic new theatre experience is one more great testament back to the faithful residents in Kansas and Missouri who fought hard 15 years ago to keep Union Station alive and vibrant."
Union Station has partnered with Kansas City's long-time theatre company, Dickinson Theatres, to make the Disney film available in this dynamic new theater venue. Dickinson will manage the first-run movies that are shown at Union Station. To build excitement for featuring "Oz The Great and Powerful" as the grand opening movie, Union Station will be transformed into the Emerald City with special effects inside and outside of the building.
"We are so pleased to partner with Union Station in bringing Disney's "Oz The Great and Powerful" to this wonderful new theatre, and to be a part of the opening of the new Extreme Screen Theatre," said Ron Horton, president and CEO of Dickinson Theaters, Inc. "As a Kansas City company that started in the movie business in 1920, it is a special honor to bring an exciting 3D theatre experience to today's audiences inside of Kansas City's most historic building."
