Flying and Falling: Investigating Improvisational Matters Using the support of the breath as the foundation for movement, students will access their strength, agility, balance, and flexibility through invigorating, full bodied dancing. Drawing on contemporary improvisational practices, students will have the opportunity to experience a sense of flight and momentum in their dancing. Students will learn to move in and out of the floor, and then up into the air with power and grace. By investigating one's own movement potential, students will cultivate mindfulness, creative expression, and spontaneity in their dancing. The development of individual presence and awareness of the dynamics of ensemble will be emphasized throughout the class. This class will strive to build a community of dancers who celebrate taking risks, exploring the unknown, and openly communicating with one another as we practice the various forms of improvisational dance in a physical, creative, and fun envi!
ronment that fosters self-expression through kinesthetic experience.
No previous experience in dance is necessary to join this class. All levels and abilities are welcome.
