Last Night - Open Audition Call - All My Sons

River City Community Players announce an Open Audition Call for All My Sons by Arthur Miller.

Directed by Denny Dey.

Be prepared to conduct cold readings from the script.

Auditions will be held at the Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade, Leavenworth, KS, Sep 17 from 7 - 9 p.m.

A tremendously impressive drama that received the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play.

During the war Joe Keller and Herbert Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money.

The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action.

The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father's partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power.

The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity.

The characters being sought are:
Joe Keller is the uneducated common man-determined-amazed by the world around him-watchful-strong-capable of immense rationalization-easily shaken by reality. Mid 50's to mid 60's

Kate Keller is submerged in the disappearance of her son-her mind is locked inside chains of hope and rationalization-she sees everyone around her much the way a master sees chess pieces on a board-to be moved into a position where her concept of reality may come true. Mid 50's to mid 60's

Chris Keller is strong-brave-idealistic-loving-nurturing-more aware of the reality of a changing world than his father-hopeful-spirited. Late 20's to early 30's

Ann Deever can hold her own with anyone-torn between her desire to re-create her own future and the need to deal with her past-heavily convicted about her father's wrong doing-devoted to Chris and supportive of George. Mid 20's

George is depressed-angry-volatile-but responds to kindness and slivers of hope. He seeks justice and wishes that his sister saw the world as does he. Late 20's to early 30's

Jim Bayliss is another example of the common man-professional-exact-caring-observational-connecting to others-but unable to connect to his own desires and personal designs. Late 30's to mid 40's

Sue Bayliss controls with skill-manages her husband-accepts her place in the social strata with a bitter taste well camouflaged-money protects her from falling further down the social ladder. Late 30's to mid 40's

Frank Lubey is harmless-yet another formation of the common man-his backyard is his kingdom-nice guy-interested is "stuff" but not overly capable of anything but interest. Early 30's

Lydia Lubey lives in the moment-for her kids-her husband-her friends-doing someone's hair is a real treat for her-she genuinely enjoys the "live" in the neighborhood. Late 20's

Bert is the "boy" in all of us-eager-inquisitive-always in motion-always thinking. Under 12

Show performances will be Oct 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. Nov 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 8 p.m. and Nov 3 at 2 p.m.
