Our 2011-2012 season will conclude with the notorious award-
winning play, Doubt: A Parable. Focusing exactly on what the
title insinuates, Doubt was written by John Patrick Shanley in
2004 and made it's Broadway debut in 2005 winning numerous
awards including the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony
Award for Best Play.

Set at a Catholic school in the Bronx in 1964, Doubt concerns an
older nun, Sister Aloysius (Cara Lohkamp, Junior, Wichita), who
does not approve of teachers offering friendship and compassion
over the discipline she feels students need in order to face the
harsh world. When she suspects a new priest (Noah Mefford,
Senior, Burlington) of sexually abusing a student, she is faced
with the prospect of charging him with unproven allegations and
possibly destroying his career as well as her own. To help build
her case, she asks for help from an idealistic young nun (Natalie
King, Junior, Wichita). Also included in the cast is the alleged
victim's mother. Mrs. Mueller played by Sophomore Whitney
Steinike from Wilson, KS.

Doubt is under the direction of Dr. Jim Ryan. Senior Ross
Rundell (Salina) is the shows set designer with assistance from
faculty member Nancy Pontius, while senior Lindsey Jarvis (Paola)
will be designing the costumes and senior Trinity Standridge
(Olathe) is designing hair and makeup. The Production's Stage
Manager is Senior Thomas Govert from Arkansas City, KS, with
assistance from Freshman Sertrice Grice from Wamego, KS.

Doubt leaves much for the audience to consider after the curtain
falls. What exactly is the nature of doubt vs. certainty. One of
the contemporary theatre's most produced works, Doubt was
adapted into a screenplay and became a feature film starring
Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams in 2008.
Performances for Doubt are Wednesday, April 4 through
Saturday, April 7 and again the following Wednesday, April 11
through Saturday, April 14, at 7:30 pm in the Ronald Q.
Frederickson Theatre in Roosevelt Hall at Emporia State
University. Tickets are available at the University Box Office or
by call 620-341-6378.
