The Knights

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
GORILLA THEATRE PRESENTS:
The Gorilla Theatre Productions will be presenting their 22nd annual Greek show on the South steps of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, at 7:30am.

This year's show will be a production of Aristophanes' The Knights (424 BCE). Aristophanes was a Greek comic playwright in 5th c. Athens, and what that means is a crazy plot, vicious swipes at political and social leaders, and with a lot of sex jokes. In this play, which won first prize at the Lenaea festival, Aristophanes takes on Cleon, who once sued Aristophanes for his play, The Babylonians. Aristophanes vowed revenge, and this play was that revenge. Come and watch an ancient political grudge match played out with jokes and general silliness. It's a great way to start the day, and should provide lots of fodder for water cooler discussions come Monday, July 1st.

WARNING: Parental Guidance suggested, this is -- after all -- a Greek Comedy.

The play this year will be directed by James Dean Carter & Daivd Brisco Luby with original live music by Patrick Conway and musicians Mark Southerland and Brad Cox. Choreography of by Kosha Johnson.  Neil Swanson-Chrisman is the Costume Designer and Chester White will be the Scenic and Props Designer.
Cast List: the CHORUS of the KNIGHTS: Carol Leighton, Michelle Stelting-Mauler, Marc Abelson, Bernard Norcott-Mahany  & Mark Bryant. Joe Whalen as DEMOSTHENES, Frank McCabe as NICIAS, Darrel Bailey as AGORACRTTUS the SAUSAGE-SELLER, Ray Ettinger as CLEON, & Michael Patton as DEMOS.
