The Knights last show tomorrow
TOMORROW IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SEE THE KNIGHTS! The Gorilla Theatre Productions will be presenting their 22nd annual Greek show on the South steps of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, at 7:30am.
This year's show will be a production of Aristophanes's The Knights (424 BCE). Aristophanes was a Greek comic playwright in 5th c. Athens, and what that means is a crazy plot, vicious swipes at political and social leaders, and lots of sex jokes. In this play, which won first prize at the Lenaea festival, Aristophanes takes on Cleon, who once sued Aristophanes for his play The Babylonians. Aristophanes vowed revenge, and this play was that revenge. Come and watch an ancient political grudge match played out with jokes and general silliness. It's a great way to start the day, and should provide lots of fodder for water cooler discussions come Monday, July 1st.
WARNING: Parental Guidance suggested, this is -- after all -- a Greek Comedy.
The play this year will be directed by James Dean Carter & David Brisco Luby with original live music by Patrick Conway and musicians Mark Southerland and Brad Cox. Choreography of by Kosha Johnson. Neil Swanson-Chrisman is the Costume Designer and Chester White will be the Scenic and Props Designer.
Cast List: the CHORUS of the KNIGHTS: Carol Leighton, Michelle Stelting-Mauler, Marc Abelson, Bernard Norcott-Mahany & Mark Bryant. Joe Whalen as DEMOSTHENES, Frank McCabe as NICIAS, Darrel Bailey as AGORACRITUS the SAUSAGE-SELLER, Ray Ettinger as CLEON, & Michael Patton as DEMOS.
Gorilla Theatre is working its way through all surviving Greek plays without repeating. This will be one of the last plays of the playwright Aristophanes. Here are some of the Summer Greek Shows of Aristophanes's we have done:
LYSISTRATA by Aristophanes 1992
THE POET & THE WOMEN by Aristophanes 1996
THE FROGS by Aristophanes 1998
THE CLOUDS by Aristophanes 2002
THE WASPS by Aristophanes 2006
THE BIRDS by Aristophanes 2009

SYNOPSIS:
The clashing sounds and pulsing rhythms of New York City underscore this landmark "concept" show, considered by many to have inaugurated the modern era of musical theatre. COMPANY follows our anti-hero bachelor Robert as he makes his way through a series of encounters with April (the stewardess), Kathy (the girl who's going to marry someone else), Marta (the "peculiar" one), as well as with his married friends.
On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. In vignette after hilarious vignette, we are introduced to "those good and crazy people," his married friends, as Robert weighs the pros and cons of married life. In the end, he realizes being alone is "alone, not alive."
An honest, witty, sophisticated look at relationships, COMPANY is as contemporary and relevant as ever (witness the recent hit revivals on Broadway and the West End). It features a brilliant energetic score containing many of Stephen Sondheim's best-known songs (including "Another Hundred People," "The Ladies Who Lunch" and "Being Alive"). - MTI

- MTI

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Beth Henley's Crimes of the Heart is a warm, irreverent, funny and touching drama about three passionate Mississippi sisters, who, in trying to escape their past, embrace their future.
Join OCTA as we wrap-up our season with the Magrath sisters of Hazlehurst, Mississippi in this dark comedy. Babe, the youngest, is out on bail having shot her husband in the stomach; Meg, the middle girl, is back in town from the west coast where her singing career fizzled; and Lenny, the oldest, faces diminishing marital prospects. Mix in Barnett, a young lawyer smitten with Babe and trying to keep her out of jail, and Chick their priggish cousin, and you have dark hilarity as the sisters try to escape their pasts in hopes of seizing their futures.
- MTI

A dark comedy—or, at least a dusty one.
Kansas City, Mo. (June 12, 2013) When a dust storm darkens the westbound train, a murder happens and everyone is groping for their alibis! "Death in the Dustbowl", starring Erik J. Pratt, Philip blue owl Hooser, and Joshua Gleeson, is the next stop on The Mystery Train line! The summer show opens June 28 and runs through August 18. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:30 pm, and alternating Sunday shows at 5:30 pm in area restaurants. If dishing the dirt is your favorite pastime, come stir things up!
Death in the Dustbowl -- Two hobos hop a train in 1935, only to find themselves headed for disaster! Not only does a dust storm loom on the horizon, but a killer is loose on the train. Will the black blizzard cover the tracks of the murderer? Or can the bums solve the crime before they're ridden out on a rail?
Murder mystery dinner theater is presented as a live interactive game, but not everyone is as they appear: one of them may be an accomplice to murder—or even the murderer himself! Check in with the Matron of the Station when you arrive and get in the line-up. Then, get ready for a marvelous meal and some murder-mystery-mayhem!
The "train car" is located within The Golden Ox, downtown KC, Californos Westport, or at The Hereford House Zona Rosa. Cost is $64 on Friday and Saturday, and $54 each on Thursday and Sunday. (No show on July 4th) A cash bar is available. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling The Central Ticket Office at 816-235-6222, or online at www.kcmysterytrain.com See our website for a complete schedule.

The Mystery Train offers group rates and is also available for private parties.

Call Backs: June 2013. By appointment. We will work with your schedule
Shooting: July 2013 [1-2 days for Jacqui and Young Peter/1 day for Adult Peter]
Synopsis:
"Lucky" is a short film that explores the nuances of an ever-evolving relationship between an adoptive single mother and her adopted son. Specifically this film highlights the newly formed family of two as they relocate for her new job and try to navigate the emotions that come with change.
Character BIOS
[Jacqui] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: Late 30's] [We welcome and encourage all ethnicities]
As a product of a broken home, Jacqui has always wanted a family of her own to reclaim and redefine what "family" can truly mean. As she hit 30, she found herself in the last year of putting herself through nursing school and instead of rejoicing in her great accomplishment, she felt an emotional void — an absence. After a few years of working hard, sailing up through the ranks at work but still not having any luck in relationships, she decided to pursue adoption to help her feel complete.
[YOUNG PETER [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 7-9] [We welcome and encourage all ethnicities]
The first few years of Peter's life were difficult in that he and his single mom never quite had "enough" but were always full of love and happiness. His mother worked hard to give her son whatever she could to make his life joyous. But when she became terminally ill with no outside family support and little medical intervention, he witnessed the light of his life slowly extinguish and leave him alone before his 5th birthday as a ward of the state.
[ADULT PETER [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: mid to late 20's] [We welcome and encourage all ethnicities]
After years of hard work in school and small parts in various ensembles, Peter, now in his mid to late 20's has landed his first starring role in a Broadway show. As he prepares to step out onto the stage for the opening night performance he acknowledges the hard work and sacrifice of the one who helped him get here.
