for the musical ONCE UPON A MATTRESS by Jay
Thompson, Marshall Barer and Dean Fuller, Lyrics

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS is a comic retailing of the
fairy tale the Princess and the Pea.
Please bring a 1 minute prepared musical selection
with sheet music, scheduling conflicts, and a
picture. Monologue cold readings will also be
available. Roles available for 9
leading/supporting characters (3 women, 6 men) and
10 ensemble. Anyone age 16 and up, all
ethnicities and physical types encouraged to
audition.
Roles include:
Queen Aggravain (age 40 and up alto) A controlling
women, she runs the kingdom with an iron fist
Princess Winnifred (age 18-40 belt) A not-typical
princess, brash and brave.
Prince Dauntless (age 18-40 baritone) mousy, just
learning to speak up for himself
King Sextimus (age 40 and up) A non-speaking, non-
singing role, extremely physical, a caring father
with a sense of humor who has a problem avoiding
responsibility, he communicates with gestures
Jester (age 16-50 tenor) does soft shoe number
Sir Harry (age 16-40 tenor) typical dashing
leading man type, wants to do the right thing
Lady Larken (age 16-40 soprano) ingenue type
Wizard (age 16-40 baritone) villain- this role has
lots of room for interpretation, he is a toady to
the Queen
Minstrel (age 18 and up tenor) new to the kingdom,
he's just finding his way, guitar skills a plus.
Rehearsals are Monday-Thursday evenings and
Saturday afternoons. Performances are April 4-7,
11-14.
