Theatre Arts Training Program-Summer Enrollments Available

FIVE SUMMER 2015 THEATRE FOR YOUNG AMERICA
THEATRE ARTS PROJECTS OFFERED AT THREE LOCATIONS

Kansas City, MO (June 17, 2015) Theatre for Young
America presents five Theatre Arts Project drama
camps this summer for young people ages 3.5 years
of age through 12th grade. The camps will be held
at three area locations: Wonderscope Children's
Museum of Kansas City for preschool through 3rd
grade; H&R Block City Stage in Union Station for
4th through 8th grades; and Goppert Theatre
Complex on the Avila University Campus for 7th
grade through 12th grade. All classes are hands-
on, with an emphasis on vocal expression,
listening, body movement skills, and
improvisation, along with production and
performance instruction.

Theatre Arts Project Drama Camps, locations, times
and grade levels offered are:

Theatre Arts Project #1.
SKIPPYJON JONES AND HIS FRISKITOS
Age: Preschool (3.5 years old)-Kindergarten (grade
in fall).
Location: Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas
City, 5700 King, Shawnee, KS
Dates: June 22-26, 2015, 5 to 7 PM daily.
Performance: The onstage performance will be at 6
PM Friday, June 26th.
Tuition: $100
Description: This drama camp centers on Judy
Schachner's award winning book series SKIPPYJON
JONES, the Siamese kitten who thinks he's a
Chihuahua! Students will experience voice, body,
and imagination exercises as they work together to
share a presentation with parents and friends.

Theatre Arts Project #2.
SKIPPYJON JONES ADVENTURES
Age: 1st-3rd graders (grade in fall).
Location: Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas
City, 5700 King, Shawnee, KS
Dates: June 22-26, 2015, 5 to 7 PM daily.
Performance: The onstage performance will be at 6
PM Friday, June 26th.
Tuition: $100
Description: This drama camp dramatizes the
SKIPPYJON JONES series of books by Judy Schachner.
This Siamese cat who thinks he is a Chihuahua gets
his family and friends into many hilarious
situations. Students will learn a little Spanish
as well as practice drama skills as they practice
for their ending performance.
Theatre Arts Project #3.
ALADDIN AND HIS MAGIC LAMP
Age: 4th-8th graders (grade in fall).
Location: H& R Block City Stage in Union Station,
30 W. Pershing, Kansas City, MO
Dates: July 6-10, 2015, 9 to 5 PM daily.
Performance: The onstage performance will be at 4
PM Friday, July 10th.
Tuition: $180
Description: Aladdin's story from the "Arabian
Nights" will be the script performed for the
presentation. The cast works on acting skills,
learns stage craft and magic, and create costumes
to prepare this play for an audience.

Theatre Arts Project #4.
RAPUNZEL
Age: 4th-8th graders (grade in fall).
Location: H & R Block City Stage in Union Station,
30 W. Pershing, Kansas City, MO
Dates: July13-17, 2015, 9 to 5 PM daily.
Performance: The onstage performance will be at 4
PM Friday, July 13th.
Tuition: $180
Description: This popular fairytale classic is
brought to life and given a few twists as a
neighbor steals a vegetable from the Witch's
garden. The angry Witch gets to keep the
neighbor's first child and puts her high in a
tower. There is an exciting hair-climbing rescue
and a happy ending. Cast works on acting skills,
stage craft, and costumes to produce this play.

Theatre Arts Project #5.
YOUNG KING ARTHUR
AGE: 7th-12 graders (grade in fall)
Location: Goppert Theatre at Avila University,
1190 Wornall Rd. Kansas City, MO
Dates: July 20-24 and July 27-31, 2015, 9 to 5PM
daily. (This is a two-week project.)
Performance: The onstage performance will be at 6
PM Friday, July 31st.
Tuition $350
Description: This theatre arts project presents a
production of the exciting legend of how Arthur
grew up to be one of the most celebrated Kings in
history. Roles include Sorceress Morgan Le Fey,
Merlin the Magician, noble ladies and knights, and
a comic abbess, among others. Technical theatre,
such as sets, props, sound, and costumes as well
as acting skills are among the topics the cast
will experience as they produce and perform this
play.

TYA drama instruction follows the new Kansas
Standards for Theatre Education, the Missouri
Grade Level Expectations for Theatre Arts, the
Partnership for 21st Century Learning Skills, and
the Common Core Standards of English Language
Arts. All Theatre for Young America instructors
are professional actors/educators.
