Paseo Takes the Gold Metal Runyon Award 2015

GOOD NEWS

During the week of June 8th through the 13th
the following list of Paseo students were part
of the Mark Time Academy audio theatre
workshop, SoundPlay, run by Judith Walcutt and
David Ossman of Otherworld Media, a non-profit
organization. The recent summer program was an
extension of workshops and performances
facilitated by Otherworld Media last May at
Paseo which brought the disciplines of creative
writing, broadcast, theater and technical
theater together in collaboration.

The students performed seven original audio
theatre productions they wrote, directed and
produced at the 18th Mark Time Awards,
presented on June 12th as part of the HEAR Now
Audio Fiction & Arts Festival here in Kansas
City. The Mark Time Awards are the top juried
awards nationally and internationally for
genre-based audio theatre and includes awards
for best science fiction, horror/fantasy and
mystery/detective productions of the year.

This year a new award, the Runyon Award for
Youth Audio Production, was announced and the
very first Gold Medal trophy was awarded to the
sixteen (16) participating students from Paseo
Academy of Fine and Performing Arts. The award
was accepted by their mentor and Paseo teacher
David Brisco Luby. Other supporting teachers
of the students from Paseo were, Chris Odam,
Neil Pirch, Velicia Daniels and Kelly Gerding.
