The List to be Performance at KC Fringe Festival
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kansas City, MO – Tomorrow everything changes, but is it for
better or worse? KC Fringe Festival audiences will find out when
The List, produced by Original Oddity Productions (OOPs), runs
for six performances at Heartland Forum in Crown Center. The
List's playwright Jason Cavallone, who hails from Chicago, also
stars in the show as Mike; the Columbia, Mo., cast is rounded out
by Paige Runge as Jo, Jerico Whitaker as Man and Cheryl Metz as
Woman, and is stage managed by Jessi Green and directed by
Melissa Alpers-Springer.
Fast-paced and non-linear, The List pushes from zero to sixty in
no time, as a four-person cast re-enacts seventy years in the
friendship of Mike and Jo—from their first meeting at age seven,
well into their golden years—and told through the frame of their
childhood bucket list. These two Everyman characters maintain
their humor and zany antics, even through the moments that tug
at the audience's heartstrings. The cast is rounded out by Man
and Woman, who take on the roles of everyone else they meet,
stepping in and out of Mike and Jo's lives while acting as Greek
chorus-style storytellers.
The List is about love, change, and life's accomplishments. The
audience is kept guessing as to what happens tomorrow and
what the future (and past) has in store.
"The List's to-die-for writing—it's an actor's dream to play such
moving and meaty roles," Mike Martin said, in his Columbia
Heart Beat review of the production's 2013 run at The Talking
Horse Theatre in Columbia, Mo.
Performances are at Heartland Forum Theatre (in Crown Center),
2450 Grand Blvd. Show times for The List at KC Fringe Festival

About KC Fringe Festival: KC Fringe Festival, an annual 11-day
performing and visual arts extravaganza. It straddles a thin,
frayed line between mass appeal and eclectic tastes. Fringe links
these two worlds together, showing that it is the bridge you take
to be inspired and entertained no matter what your taste may be.

No Greek show
It is with great trepidation and sorrow that write
to you now. For many reasons most of all my health
I have come to the very difficult decision that I
can no longer continue Gorilla Theatre
Productions. I am retiring Gorilla Theatre
Productions Local Performing Artist Institute.
After 25 years I must make one of the hardest
decisions in my life and say goodbye to Gorilla.
I would like to thank all of you for your hard
work and support throughout the past 25 years for
keeping Gorilla going. It could not have made it
this far without you. Again I can not thank you
enough for all that you have done for Gorilla it
was a great ride and you made it all possible.
Sadly everything must come to an end and now it's
Gorilla's time.
So needless to say my heart breaks in saying there
will be no Greek show this year.

Paseo's Announces Auditions for school next year 2015-2016
Auditions
for
Paseo Academy
of Fine & Performing Arts
2014-2015 Academic Year grades 7-12
July 14th, 28th and Aug. 4th & 11th at 3:00
p.m.
Paseo is located at
4747 Flora, Kansas City, MO 64110
(816) 418-2275
Paseo has several areas of stident besides the
core subjects such as: Theatre, Music, Art,
Dance, Fashion and Broadcasting.
It has been proven in many studies that
students
who have a strong training in the arts do
better
on standardized test than students who have no
arts education. The arts make not only the
students better, but the community as well.
All art forms have a place at Paseo Academy.
It's
a place to improve your talents, show off your
talents and cultivate your talents that you
might
not have known you had. The school, which
becomes
like a family, integrates the arts throughout
college preparatory classes many other
activities
that prepare you for life after high school.
Theater is the only art form that encompasses
all
of the art forms such as creative writing,
music,
dance, and visual arts. Theater students can
obtain analytical and oral language skills as
well
as self confidence and discipline for careers
in
the ever growing entertainment industry. The
skills learned in theater will also be helpful
in
other careers outside of the entertainment
industry such as, public speaking, law, and
politics.
Dance is a visual art form that allows the body
to
act as an instrument for expression. Dance
Majors
have the chance to participate in the All Arts
holiday performance like Holiday on the Hill,
and
take a trip to The Big Apple experience. To rap
up
the year, the entire Dance Department will
present
the All Arts Dance & Theater senior showcase.
VISUAL ARTS Through drawing, graphic design,
ceramics, painting and printmaking, the visual
art
major develops a thorough understanding and
range
of skills using two-dimensional media. Students
are led to employ a wide range of vocabulary in
visual art and polish skills, which readies
them
for a post secondary program of study in visual
art.
Television Production/Broadcasting is a Career
and
Technical Education program that operates out
of
Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts. The
goal of the program is two-fold: first to
introduce all students in the Kansas City
Public
schools to the television and broadcast
journalism
industry, teach them how it works and present
the
career opportunities. Second, the program will
prepare students to be college, career and work
ready in the television and broadcasting
journalism industry.
Technical theater at Paseo focuses on resume
and
portfolio building through hands on real life
learning. Students will learn the basics in
technical theater production and design in the
classroom and by acting as interns for Paseo
Academy and assist in the technical productions
for all school events such as music, dance,
and
poetry performances.
The Choral Music Conservatory students study
Voice
Pedagogy of Performance, Concert Choir, Chamber
Choir, Theory 1 and 2, Piano 1 and 2 and
Individualized Lessons. We also offer a Middle
School component for 7th and 8th graders. Our
Choral Music Conservatory provides many
performance opportunities for students to
formally
and creatively express themselves. Upon
completion
of their choral studies students are worthy for
music scholarship, for the post secondary
studies
or ready for entry into the professional arena.
Creative Writing students study poetry,
fiction,
nonfiction and playwriting. In addition to
studying published works, students write
critical
responses to literature. Writing of exceptional
merit is published in the Poets Voice, Paseo's
literary magazine. You might find students
reading
at The Writers Place and the Blue Room.
Instrumental Music/Band students will have the
desire to perform music other have composed.
They
either have developed skills and already play a
musical instrument or have a desire to learn.
They
will have the discipline to be able to follow a
teacher's directions and the self-discipline to
practice.
Instrumental Music/Orchestra students will have
the desire to perform music other have
composed.
They either have the skills and already play a
stringed instrument or have the desire to
learn.
They will have the discipline to be able to
follow
a teacher's directions and the self-discipline
to
practice.
It has been proven in many studies that
students
who have a strong training in the arts do
better
on standardized test and are more likely to
succeed in post secondary education than
students
who have no arts education. The arts make not
only
the students better but the community as well.
Paseo Academy of the Fine and Performing Arts
can
make it better.
Auditions are required of all students
interested
in attending Paseo Academy of Fine and
Performing
Arts. Audition details can be found on the

Second Round of Auditions for Loves, Labours, Lost
Alcott Arts Center
(Community)
The Alcott Arts Center will be holding a SECOND ROUND of Auditions on Thursday June 25th from 6 to 8PM for Alcott's 2015
"Shakespeare in the Parking Lot VIII"
production of Love's, Labours, Lost
by William Shakespeare
Directed by Susan Proctor, PhD.
The play runs September 12,13,19,20
Please bring Head-shots and Resumes and date conflicts(if you have them).
We still have some key roles available.
This is one of Shakespeare's earliest comedies, probably written in 1580s. It may have been first performed in 1588. It was certainly performed in 1597.The play tells the tale of the King of Navarre and his three friends who swear off of women for one year.
Except when the Princess of France and her three friends come on a diplomatic mission.
Also, the play spoofs the academics, the Spanish, the local constable, and the country lads and lasses.
It is a play about love (at least 5 couples), which sets man's wits against women's.
There are 16 named characters, 6 men, 5 women, and 5 can be either.
Another character in this play is definitely language. The king and his friends all write a bit of poetry, some better than others.
For auditions, I would like to hear you read and perhaps dance a bit.
Call if you have any questions!913-233-ARTS(2787)
Audition location:
Alcott Arts Center 180 S. 18th St. Kansas City, Kansas 66102

ESU Summer Theatre presents "The Nerd"
ESU THEATRE PRESS RELEASE
Emporia State University Summer Theatre is proud to present "The Nerd," a hilarious and popular comedy by Larry Shue. "The Nerd" will be the directing debut of our newest faculty member, Dan Matisa. Dan joins ESU Theatre direct from the Arkansas Shakespeare Festival. He has spent the last several years in New York City as a working actor. He brings a wealth of real world experience to the Emporia State University Theatre program.
"The Nerd" is about an aspiring architect and former GI named Willum (Evan Eisenbarth, Cassoday). Willum often tells his friends the story of a man named Rick Steadman (Michael Abbott, Great Bend) who he has never met but who saved his life in Vietnam. Willum has often written to Rick and telling him that as long as he is alive, "you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you" – so imagine Willum's delight when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment. But his delight soon turns to disdain when he realizes that Rick is a clumsy fool with no social grace, little intelligence and even less tact. Rick outstays his welcome with a hilarious vengeance that causes one uproarious incident after another, all leading up to a surprising twist of an ending.
Assisting Dan Matisa with directing is Jim Bartruff. Scenery and costumes are being designed by Rick Rasmussen. Costume Supervision is provided by Amanda Dura and Technical Direction is provided by Chris Lohkamp. Lisa Tinker (Derby) is the production stage manager and Brock Boudoin (Georgetown, TX) is the assistant stage manager. Other cast members include Miranda S. Nation (Winfield), Andrew McCutcheon (Gardner), Logan Wohlford (Valley Center), Fran Opheim (Olathe) and Carter Brown (Dallas, TX).
"The Nerd" runs June 8 - 11 at 7:30 pm in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre. For tickets or more information, call the box office at 620-341-6378.

ESU Summer Theatre presents "Things My Mother Taught Me"
Emporia State University Theatre
Emporia State University's 61st Summer Theatre season continues with "Things My Mother Taught Me", a charming new romantic comedy by Katherine DiSavino. "Things My Mother Taught Me" follows the story of Olivia (Lauren Bergman, St. Joseph, MO) and Gabe (Brock Boudoin, Georgetown, TX) who are moving into their first apartment together, halfway across the country in Chicago. But their moving day doesn't go quite the way they planned, and things become even more complicated when their parents surprise them by showing up to help!
"Can a two bedroom apartment contain all of the love, laughs, worry and wisdom that's about to happen? This brand new comedy takes a generational look at relationships, and how sometimes parents are passing their best lessons on to their children without even meaning to. Funny and touching, this one will make you laugh out loud and fall in love all over again."
"Things My Mother Taught Me" is under the direction of Jim Bartruff. Rick Rasmussen joins ESU Summer Theatre again this year to design scenography for the production. Costume supervision is provided by Amanda Dura and technical direction is provided by Chris Lohkamp. Elizabeth Kennell (Belton, MO) is the production stage manager and Courtney Romero (Piper) is her assistant. Other cast members include Alayne Weber (Topeka), Michael Juarez (Omaha, NE), Miranda S. Nation (Winfield), Logan Wohlford (Valley Center) and Tyler Lang (Wichita).
"Things My Mother Taught Me" runs June 24 – 27 at 7:30 pm in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre. For tickets or more information, call the box office at 620-341-6378.

We are Box of Clowns, a physical theatre ensemble from Portland, Oregon. We are a clown troupe, so we proudly come from a tradition of popular theatre. Our premier work, Mom?, was our culmination project at Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre, and thus our box was born. Our ensemble methods have grown out of the teachings at Dell'Arte, our own group research, and a collective desire to find delight and humor in unexpected places. We benefit from pushing ourselves past expected limits physically and mentally, ruthless play, and fierce editing. Box of Clowns aims to create visceral, emotional, and provocative experiences for our audiences.

Call for Scripts - 2015 Barn Players 6 x 10 Ten-Minute Play Festival...DEALINE IS SUNDAY!
BARN PLAYERS 6X10 FESTIVAL
CALL FOR SCRIPTS
Grab your pencils! Or laptops! The Barn Players Theatre is holding
its eighth annual 6x10 Play Festival on December 11th – 13th, and we are looking for some great scripts.
The Festival will produce six short plays, each roughly ten minutes in length and all by local & regional writers. Tell us a great story in ten minutes and you'll get the chance to see your work performed on our stage.
Playwrights whose scripts are selected will be encouraged to
participate in rehearsal and to work collaboratively with the
director. They may modify their script as they watch it take shape on
the stage.
GUIDELINES (please read and follow carefully)
- All playwrights must live within 300 miles of Kansas City.
- Scripts may not have been produced or self-produced previously in the Greater Kansas City area.
- Scripts should be easily produced in the context of a ten-minute
play festival (i.e. small casts and simple sets)
- Each playwright may submit up to two (2) scripts for review.
- Scripts may only be submitted electronically to "tenminute@thebarnplayers.org". Scripts sent via US mail or dropped off at The Barn will not be considered.
- Each play must be a blind submission (i.e. no playwright identifiers anywhere on the script or cover page), and must be accompanied by a separate document or email with playwrights contact information. Submissions received without following the rules regarding contact information may be immediately disqualified.
- Each playwright submitting a play will receive a notice of receipt.
- No comments or feedback on the scripts will be given.
- There is no entry fee.
- Failure to follow these guidelines of submission will automatically disqualify a script(s) from consideration.
- Selections will be made by the end of August and posted on The Barn Players website at www.thebarnplayers.org.
- Deadline for submission is August 1st, 2015.
By submitting a script for consideration, the playwright agrees that
The Barn Players may produce the script during the festival. The
playwright agrees to waive any royalty for the production of the piece
in the festival and relinquishes all rights to casting decisions or
scenic choices.
For more information, please contact Eric Magnus, Artistic Director of The Barn Players at emagnitude@me.com
The Barn Players embraces diversity in all aspects of our organization. Non-traditional and equal-opportunity casting is encouraged.

SITPLOT 8 Loves Labours Lost Second Round of Auditions
Alcott Arts Center
(Community)
The Alcott Arts Center will be holding a second round of Auditions on June 25th from 6 to 8PM for Alcott's 2015 "Shakespeare in the Parking Lot VIII" production of
Love's, Labours, Lost by William Shakespeare
Directed by Susan Proctor, PhD.
The play runs September 12,13,19,20
Please bring Head-shots and Resumes (if you have them)and date conflicts.
If you want to prepare ahead of time, I will leave some books at the Alcott Arts that you can peruse to find out about the characters and maybe, some of the language.
Call if you have any questions!913-233-ARTS(2787)
Audition location:
Alcott Arts Center 180 S. 18th St. Kansas City, Kansas 66102 913-233-
