KANSAS CITY PREMIERE OF "BILL W. AND DR. BOB"
Powerful Off-Broadway Production Comes to Parkville
PARKVILLE, MO - BILL W. AND DR. BOB by Stephen Bergman and Janet Surrey is the first production of the Bell Road Barn Players 60th season in conjunction with Park University. It is also the premiere production of the play in the Kansas City area.
The play tells the story of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. The AA program has been attributed with saving the lives of millions of suffering alcoholics and addicts since its inception in the early 1930s and the play tells of the unlikely meeting of these two men and the movement that came about of that - as well as the inception of the program Al-Anon for the family. The Kansas City recovery community support for the show has been overwhelming.
Critics have called the show "Eye-opening, entertaining, engrossing, touching" and actor Martin Sheen said of the Off-Broadway production: "…miraculous story, beautifully told, of the men who named the disease and created the cure."
Performances are June 13 through June 22 at the David Theater on the Park University campus.
