BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON creators Michael Friedman and Alex Timbers cook up an alternate universe (and draw parallels to today's political/populist landscape) with their musical about the seventh U.S. president, reinvented as an "emo" rock star. BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON tells the story of America's first political maverick. A.J. kicked British butt, shafted the Indians and smacked down the Spaniards all in the name of these United States--who cares if he didn't have permission? An exhilarating and white-knuckled look at one of our nation's founding rock stars, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON recreates and reinvents the life of "Old Hickory," from his humble beginnings on the Tennessee frontier to his days as Commander-in-Chief. It also asks the question…"Is wanting to have a beer with someone reason enough to elect him?" and "What if he's really, really hot?"

MELTINGPOT KC PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE FROWNING VAJAYJAYS OF SHADY PINES BY KANSAS CITY PLAYWRIGHT VICKI VODREY AT JUST OFF BROADWAY THEATRE
PRESS RELEASE - FEBRUARY 26, 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MELTINGPOT KC PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF "THE
FROWNING VAJAYJAYS OF SHADY PINES" BY KANSAS CITY
PLAYWRIGHT VICKI VODREY AT JUST OFF BROADWAY
THEATRE
Contact: Harvey Williams
816-226-8087
MeltingPot KC is proud to announce their upcoming
theatrical production of "The Frowning Vajayjays
of Shady Pines" written by Kansas City playwright,
Vicki Vodrey, and presented at Just Off Broadway
Theatre. The play will premiere on Friday, March
21, 7:30pm and run through April 6, 2014.
"Walkers and wheelchairs may be the norm; funerals
may be commonplace. But that doesn't get Lila,
Marilyn and Peggy down, three of the southern
belles that live at Shady Pines Retirement Home.
Normally quite happy playing bridge, attending
Bingo games and flirting with their physical
therapist, the ladies get along until thrown a
curve ball – Lila's assignment of the new
roommate, Bertie Wright. Suddenly, Bertie, who is
African-American, throws a little more color into
a mostly all white retirement home – in more ways
than one. If you're thinking 'old dogs can't learn
new tricks' – think again!"
Directed by Harvey Williams, "The Frowning
Vajayjays of Shady Pines" features the cast of
Nancy Marcy, Sherri Roulette-Mosley, Petra Allen,
Cindy Siefers and Jeff Smith.
Vicki Vodrey's play "Hanky Panky" – which was part
of the 12th annual MITF – was nominated for three
MITF awards - Outstanding New Play, Outstanding
Productions of a Play, and Outstanding Ensemble.
It was a top-rated play at the 2010 KC Fringe
Festival and placed in the top ten in the TRU
Voices Playwriting Competition that same year.
"Thank You Notes: Headed To Heaven W/ Flat Jimmy
Fallon" was nominated at the MITF in 2012 for five
awards – Outstanding Play, Outstanding Director,
Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Supporting
Actor and Outstanding Set Design and garnered
numerous wonderful reviews. Her play "Trembles"
was a winner of the Gorilla Theatre Playwriting
Competition in 2000 and was also produced as a
fundraising event for KC Hospice. She is the owner
of Lot In Life Productions, LLC.
Harvey Williams is the founder of KC MELTINGPOT.
It is a venture to focus on local talent in
theatre - works created by local writers,
performed by local talent and hopefully supported
by local audiences throughout the greater Kansas
City area. As an actor, he has been seen at
theatres across Kansas City in productions of
"Driving Miss Daisy", "Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead", "Little Tommy Parker",
"The Watsons go to Birmingham", "Now Let me Fly",
"The Piano Lesson", "Fences", "12 Angry Men",
"1940's Radio Hour", "The African Company presents
Richard the III", "Monkey Don't Drink Hot
Chocolate", "Othello", "Journey with Barbara
Jordan". Harvey has toured with Bob Paisley's

Actors' Equity. Harvey is the author of "Old
School's Ghetto Gospel" and "The Session".

The beloved story of the March sisters is timeless and deals with issues as relevant today as when they were written. Now, this wonderful narrative has been brought to life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious music, dancing and heart. LITTLE WOMEN embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears, and a lifting of the spirit. This powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache and hope -- the sounds of a young America finding its voice. In years to come, we are sure that hundreds of productions by schools and theatres throughout the world will make this stage adaptation of the American classic novel a classic musical theatre treasure in its own right." – MTI

SYNOPSIS:
"Based on Louisa May Alcott's own family experiences (and novel), LITTLE WOMEN-THE MUSICAL, follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America.

Industry Night performance: Monday, July 28, 2014 at 7:30pm.
All performances take place at…
The Barn Players, 6219 Martway, Mission, KS
SYNOPSIS:
Called the funniest farce ever written, this play presents a manic menagerie of characters as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a farce called "Nothing On".
Doors slamming, onstage and backstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.
Act One is set at the dress rehearsal the night before opening with the cast still fumbling with entrances and exits, missed cues, misspoken lines, and bothersome props, most notably several plates of sardines.
In Act Two, the play is seen from backstage, providing a view that reveals the deteriorating personal relationships among the cast that have led to offstage shenanigans and onstage bedlam.
In Act Three, we see a performance near the end of the ten-week run when personal friction has continued to increase. The actors attempt to cover up a series of mishaps but only compound the problems and draw attention to the bungling performance.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
5M – 4F (special physical consideration and wardrobe disclosures included):
LLOYD DALLAS – The director of Nothing On, the farce that the characters in Noises Off are attempting to perform. Lloyd is passionate, suave, and extremely harried. He has a hot temper which he barely manages to keep in check (most of the time) as he watches his production go from bad to worse to disaster.
DOTTY OTLEY / MRS. CLACKETT – A (rather) aging prima donna. Her money is funding the production. She has a great deal of trouble remembering her lines, blocking, and props. Capable of using spite or self-pity to get her way. Plays the part of Mrs. Clackett the housekeeper for the Brent's home in England.
GARRY LEJEUNE / ROGER TRAMPLEMAIN – Means well. Believes in the theatre. Tries to keep the show going and everyone's morale up, but often has trouble finishing his sentences. His good nature is replaced with jealously when he believes Dotty has begun carrying on with Frederick. Plays the part of Roger, a real estate agent who is attempting to rent the house, but uses it for a place to have an affair with Vicki. Physical note: Falls down a flight of stairs onstage and must maneuver with shoelaces tied together.
BROOKE ASHTON / VICKI – Young and sexy, but a terrible actress. Incapable of taking direction. Spacey and tuned-out whether onstage or off. Blind as a bat without her contacts, which have a tendency to pop out at bad times. She plays the part of Vicki who works for Inland Revenue and is trying to woo Roger. Wardrobe note: Spends a majority of the show in skimpy lingerie.
POPPY NORTON-TAYLOR - The assistant stage manager of Nothing On. Overworked and often on the verge of tears. Works frantically to keep the show from completely falling apart, a hopeless (and thankless) task.
FREDERICK FELLOWES / PHILIP BRENT / SHEIKH – A neurotic, bumbling actor who is filled with self-doubt. A sweet man. Not the brightest bulb in the box. Always has a thousand questions about his lines and blocking. Violence and blood upset him, causing him to get nosebleeds. He plays the part of Phillip Brent who is currently a tax exile living in Spain with his wife Flavia. He also plays the part of Sheikh who is interested in renting the home and is the spitting image of Phillip. Physical note: Must ascend a staircase with trousers around his ankles.
BELINDA BLAIR / FLAVIA BRENT – An experienced actress who is positive, reliable, and charming. A goodhearted busybody, who knows all the gossip about the company. She attempts to keep the show going as it unravels. She plays the part of Flavia, Philip's dependable wife.
TIM ALLGOOD – The company's long-suffering stage manager who is completely exhausted and sleep-deprived. He is responsible for an inhuman number of tasks and is the understudy for multiple roles in Nothing On.
SELSDON MOWBRAY / BURGLAR - A cheerful, elderly, alcoholic who forgets his lines and misses his entrances. The entire cast attempts to keep him from getting his hands on a bottle. Panic reigns when he cannot be found at all. He plays the part of an elderly burglar breaking into the Brent's home.

SYNOPSIS:
Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting the draft into the Vietnam War. They struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society. They are challenged and confront their convictions when one of their own is drafted. He faces the decision to either resist the draft as his friends have done, or to succumb to the pressures of his parents (and conservative America) to serve in Vietnam, compromising his pacifistic principles and risking his life.
CASTING: The cast of Hair is called "the Tribe". This show, more than any other, really is an ensemble piece. One in which the tribe of 21 members must work together as one single organism. There are no lead roles, supporting roles, featured roles, or chorus parts – just one collective. Tribe members are roughly between the ages of 19 – 25. All Tribe members are onstage at all times communicating the story to the audience. In doing so, they also take on many and various characters in sketches or scenes throughout the show. Those characters are listed with each individual description below. Please note that some roles and parts may shift due to the nature of the talents of the tribe. All Tribe members all sing, dance and perform in Hair's 30+ songs.
Color blind casting is a principle and practice of both this theatre and the production team. But, due to the nature of the show, specific roles must be of specific color and indicated below. Conflicts with the rehearsal schedule must be kept to an absolute minimum during the rehearsal process. No conflicts will be accepted during dress / tech week (9/12 – 9/18).
NOTE: Along with so many other groundbreaking firsts, Hair is credited as the first Broadway musical to contain nudity. This production will honor that aspect of the script and its intent. What is always referred to as "the nude scene" actually is The Protest Scene. The protest is the last scene of Act I of which the nudity is a result of a climatic, emotional response to political suppression. The nudity occurs in a time span of about twenty seconds. Please do not allow your apprehension to appear nude onstage to dissuade you from auditioning. This will be a topic of discussion during the chat portion of your audition. Let the points in that discussion guide you to an informed decision concerning your involvement in this production. Your final decision will be fully respected and honored by the production staff and the Barn Players organization.

If a color is not indicated below, then that role can be played by an actor of any color. People of any color or race will be equally considered for those roles.

Young Frankenstein SECOND WEEKEND
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein is a physician lecturer at an American medical school and engaged to the tightly wound actress Elizabeth. He becomes exasperated when anyone brings up the subject of his grandfather, the infamous mad scientist. To disassociate himself from his legacy, Frederick insists that his surname be pronounced "Fronk-en-steen."
Join us this weekend for the second week of performances at the Leavenworth Performing Arts Center.
Our reservation line is open at 913-651-0027. Any military id card holder will receive a $1.00 discount on his or her ticket. This is available to all military id card holders of all branches of service.
When a solicitor informs him that he has inherited his family's estate in Transylvania after the death of his great grandfather, the Baron Beauvort von Frankenstein, Frederick travels to Europe to inspect the property.
At the Transylvania train station, he is met by a hunchbacked, bulging-eyed servant named Igor, pronounced as "eye-gore", and a lovely young personal assistant named Inga. Upon arrival at the estate, Frederick meets the forbidding housekeeper Frau Blücher, whose name, whenever mentioned, causes horses to rear up and neighs madly in fright.
Though his family legacy has brought shame and ridicule, Frederick becomes increasingly intrigued about his grandfather's work, especially after Inga assists him in discovering the secret entrance to his grandfather's laboratory. Upon reading his grandfather's private journals, Frederick is so transformed that he decides to resume his grandfather's experiments in re-animating the dead.
He and Igor resort to robbing the grave of a recently executed criminal, and Frederick sets to work experimenting on the large corpse. Matters go awry, however, when Igor is sent to steal the brain of a deceased revered scientist, Hans Delbruck; startled by lightning, he drops and ruins Delbruck's brain. Taking a second brain, Igor returns with a brain labeled "Do Not Use This Brain! Abnormal" (which he subsequently refers to as "A-b (Abby) Normal"), which Frederick unknowingly transplants into the corpse.
Well, you have to join us at the theater to see the end.
Directed by Breanna Danielle.

A true musical theatre phenomenon, CATS opened at London's New London Theatre on May 11, 1981 and ran for a record-setting 21 years. CATS's London success was nearly matched on Broadway where it ran at the Wintergarden Theatre for just over 18 years.
Directed by Dan Prather and Curt Knupp, Music Directed by Baker Purdon. Prepare 32 measures of Musical Theatre selection in style of show. (Not a song from "CATS") Bring sheet music in your key, accompanist will be provided. No A'cappella or singing with CDs. Bring a Resume and Headshot if you have them. Open to all 35 and older. SYNOPSIS:

SYNOPSIS:

Open Call for Auditions Beau Jest
River City Community Players announce an open audition call for Beau Jest by James Sherman
Auditions: Mar 10-11: 7 pm Mon-Tue
Sarah is a nice girl with a problem: her Jewish parents want her married to a Jewish boy. They have never met him, a WASP named Chris Kringle.
She tells them she is dating a Jewish doctor; they insist on a meeting. She plans a dinner party and over Chris' protests, employs an escort service to send her a Jewish date.
Instead, they send Bob, who agrees to perform the impersonation. Happily, he is extremely convincing in the role and Sarah's parents are enraptured. Soon, even Sarah falls for Bob.
Directed by Denny Dey.
Current resume and a complete list of conflicts from March 13 – May 3. Dedication and commitment to River City Community Players, the director and fellow actors is of utmost importance.

Young Frankenstein OPENING WEEKEND
River City Community Players announces opening weekend for Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan. Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks.
Some of the best seats have already been reserved; hurry and make your reservation now.
There will be a reception on the mezzanine following the opening night performance.
Featuring: Chase Knueven, Joshua Shockey, Sam Sentman, Shannon DelBorrell, Alissa Dunning, Janet Henry, Jacob Nelson, Terrance Mulcare, Robert Ritter, Raphael Tate, Jeff Swanson, Carol Varner, Cape Rust, Kimberly Wook, Mallie Rust, Tracy McClung, Jenni Wilson, Sarah Jackson, Russell Welch, Danny Wtkek, Bill Krondak, Bill Bay, Tom Gray and Brad Cox.

Emporia State Theatre Presents: Uncle Vanya
ESU THEATRE PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release
ESU Theatre Explores the World of Chekhov
with the Classic Uncle Vanya
Emporia State University Theatre will present Uncle Vanya,
Chekhov's classic tragicomedy. The production is scheduled for
consecutive weekends in April in the R.Q. Frederickson Theatre
in Roosevelt Hall. Translated by Irishman Brian Friel (Dancing at
Lughnasa, Translations) this modern adaptation of the Chekhov
classic was first produced at the Gate Theatre, Dublin, in 1998.
Friel's adaptation renders the language of the play into a modern
idiom and offers humor and further developed characters' roles
and relationships.
In Uncle Vanya, a retired professor, Sebryakov (Mike
Koetkemeyer, Senior, Salina) and his beautiful young wife, Elena
(Miranda Nation, Sophomore, Winfield) have returned to Vanya's
country estate. Uncle Vanya (Colter G. Lemmon, Junior,
Crawford, Nebraska) discovers his hopeless and unrequited
feelings for the professor's wife. Meanwhile, the professor's
daughter, Sonya (Holly Davis, Freshman, Valley Falls), yearns for
the doctor, Astrov (Nathan Dale Short, Sophomore, Paola) who
only has eyes for Elena. If things don't seem complicated
enough, the professor has an announcement that could change
the lives of the entire household.
Other cast members include: Samaria Fleig (Senior, Emporia),
Ryan Scully (Senior, Winchester), Evan Eisenbarth (Sophomore,
Cassoday), and Ann Baldridge (Freshman, Topeka). A timeless
observation of human behavior and relationships, Uncle Vanya
remains relevant to audiences of our time. In describing the
2013 production of the play at Minneapolis' Guthrie Theatre,
director Joe Dowling observed that "people have compared Friel
with Chekhov, and these two major artists have been profoundly
influential…"
The production is under the direction of Dr. Jim Ryan. Nancy
Pontius is the set designer; Susan Mai is the costume designer.
Lighting is designed by Ron Fowlkes. Senior Aubrey Near
(Independence) is the company manager. Rochelle Watson
(Junior, Oak Grove, MO) is the Production Stage Manager.
Veniese Razo (Freshman, Topeka) will serve as the properties
master; Kylie Geiman (Junior, Louisburg) and Ethan Crapser
(Freshman, Overland Park) will be running sound and lights
during the run.
The scenery crew consists of John Lloyd Stafford III (Junior,
Independence), Tyler Lang (Freshman, Wichita), Elizabeth Kennell
(Sophomore, Belton), Courtney Romero (Freshman, Kansas City),
and Andrew McCutcheon (Junior, Gardner). Bekah Lane
(Freshman, Wichita) and Elliot Brest (Junior, Tonganoxie) will
serve on the costume crew. Cameron Reynolds (Freshman,
Louisburg) will work in the box office and Adam Helmer (Senior,
Emporia) will be the House Manager.
Uncle Vanya will be performed April 16-19 and 23-26 at 7:30 in
the R.Q. Frederickson Theatre in Roosevelt Hall. Call (620) 341-
6378 to reserve tickets.

Emporia State Theatre Presents: Boeing, Boeing
ESU THEATRE PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release
Emporia State University Theatre presents Boeing Boeing
Emporia State University Theatre presents Boeing Boeing, a
French farce adapted for the English-speaking stage. Revived on
Broadway in 2008 in a Tony-winning production, the farce
features Bernard (Brandon Jensen, Senior, Salina) an American
architect that resides in Paris, France. When Bernard's best pal,
Robert (John Lloyd Stafford III, Junior, Independence) comes for a
visit, Bernard divulges that he is engaged to marry three different
women.
The women are Gloria (Lisa Prater, Junior, Derby), Gabriella (Kylie
Geiman, Junior, Louisburg), and Gretchen (Alayne Weber,
Freshman, Topeka). Each fiancée is an airline hostess with
frequent layovers; Gloria works for TWA, Gabriella works for Air
Italia, and Gretchen works for Lufthansa. But when Boeing
introduces a new, faster jet, all of the hostesses find themselves
in Bernard's apartment at the same time, leaving Bernard and
Robert to deal with the consequences. Housekeeper Bertha
(Chandler Archer-McGinnis, Topeka) tries to keep "the house in
order" to great comic effect.
Boeing Boeing is under the Direction of Professor Theresa
Mitchell. Amanda Dura is the costume designer. Ron Fowlkes is
the set designer and senior Samaria Fleig (Emporia) is the
lighting designer. Senior Mark Warner (Salina) is the Technical
Director, and Andrew Wilson (Sophomore, Gresham, Oregon) is
the stage manager. Assistant Stage Manager is Andrew
McCutcheon (Junior, Gardner). Doug Dion is the Shop Manager.
Crewmembers include Michael Abbott (Junior, Great Bend), Paul
Ray Clements (Grad student, Abilene), Elliot Brest (Junior,
Tonganoxie), Veniese Razo (Freshman, Topeka), Kortney Foth
(Freshman, Peabody), Allyson Henry (Freshman, Salina) and
Emmanuel Cockrell (Junior, Junction City). Becca Bolerjack
(Freshman, Olathe) and Valerie Stockton (Freshman, Newton) will
serve as the costume crew for the production. Cameron Reynolds
(Freshman, Louisburg) and Landon Noll (Junior, Winchester) will
work Box Office and House Management.
Boeing Boeing was first presented February 2, 1965, at the Cort
Theatre, in New York City. Writing about the 2008 revival, The
New York Times noted that "this latest edition of a play named
for an aircraft soars right out of its time zone and into some
unpolluted stratosphere of classic physical comedy. Propelled by
the same gusty spirit that animated Commedia dell'Arte and the
silent films of Keaton, Chaplin and Lloyd..." The play is also the
basis of the popular screen comedy that starred Tony Curtis and
Jerry Lewis. The ESU production of Boeing Boeing will run March
5th – 8th at 7:30 p.m. in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre. Tickets at
$10, $9 for seniors and $5 students are available at the
University Box Office by calling (620) 341-6378.

Starlight now taking applications for Community tickets
Starlight Theatre is continuing its 64-year-old
tradition of offering free nights of Broadway
musicals to not-for-profit groups serving
individuals who might otherwise miss out.
Since the theatre's inaugural season in 1951, the
Starlight Community Ticket Program has distributed
364 free tickets every night of every Broadway
performance to select groups and the individuals
they serve.
Applications for the Starlight Community Ticket
Program are now being accepted for Starlight's
2014 Broadway season. This year, not-for-profit
501(c)(3) organizations operating in Kansas and
Missouri may choose from five Broadway shows at
Starlight – a total of 31 performance nights with
more than 11,200 free tickets available. In 2013,
113 local not-for-profit organizations received
free tickets through this program.
"The Starlight Community Ticket Program focuses on
groups dedicated to enhancing the lives of
underprivileged and at-risk youth, the medically
dependent or disabled, and low-income older
adults. We do, however, also try to give all new
groups that apply at least some of the tickets
they request provided that they meet our
qualifications," said Bob Potemski, Starlight
House Manager and program administrator.
Starlight's 2014 Broadway Season: The Wizard of Oz
(June 10-June 15), We Will Rock You (June 17-22),
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (July
8-13), The Sound of Music (July 25-31), and Blue
Man Group (September 9-14).
Community Ticket applications and program details
are available at kcstarlight.com under "Education
and Outreach" or by contacting Bob Potemski at

The Importance of Being Earnest, a Trivial Comedy for Serious People
Journeyman Theatre Company presents
The Importance of Being Earnest, a Trivial Comedy
for Serious People
You've never seen an Earnest like this! Oscar
Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest kicks off
Journeyman Theatre Company's Season at the Just
Off Broadway Theater, opening February 12th.
Ian R. Crawford directs this subversive new
production of Wilde's wittiest comedy. Wilde's
play is dripping with social commentary and
mockery of the oppressive strictures of Victorian
high society. Journeyman Theatre takes
Wilde's irreverence for everything serious to the
next level, featuring all cross-gender casting, to
highlight Wilde's skewering of traditional
gender roles in this thoroughly silly play. If
you are already enraptured with the play, or if
you have never seen it before, you will not want
to miss this unique, lush production!
Behaving well is very important but having fun is
much nicer. Meet Jack and Algernon, two of
London's most eligible bachelors. Algernon is a
bit of a bad boy, Jack is much more Earnest.
Join these two misfits on their tangled quest for
love. Will they get the girls, or be thwarted by
the fearsome Lady Bracknell? This quintessential
comedy of manners by the iconic bad boy of
Victorian England, includes abandoned babies,
mistaken identities, covert engagements, wooing
suitors, and some of the wittiest wordplay ever
written in the English language.
The cast features Zack Chaykin, Margaret Hanzlick,
Heather Hare, Lucas T. McVey, Elissa Schrader,
Justin Speer, Matt Sweeten and Chelsey Tighe.
Set and costume design by Ian R.Crawford, sound
design by Rustin R. Bolejack and lighting by
Kerry Chafin. Jonathan Jensen is assistant
director and dialect coach, Justin Cave is
dramaturge, and Christopher Bowe is the stage
manager.
Performances run February 12th-15th at 7:30pm,
Sunday the 15th at 2:30pm, February 19-22nd at
7:30pm, and Sunday the 23rd at 2:30pm
Don't miss this riotous good time with a special
Valentines day performance marking the 119th
anniversary of the first performance of The
Importance of Being Earnest in 1895.
