Leawood Stage Company*
"Watch on the Rhine" by Lillian Hellman: Apr 4-6: 8 pm Fri-Sat; 2 pm Sun
An idealistic German who, with his American wife and three children, flees Hitler's Germany to find sanctuary with his wife's family in the US. He hopes for a respite from the dangerous work he has involved himself with but his personal safety soon comes into question.
Told in compelling, human terms, the play is an eloquent and stirring tribute to the brave men and women who, despite all odds, struggled to stem the tide of fascism which soon spread throughout Europe.

SYNOPSIS: A true theatrical event, this legendary masterpiece is considered by many to be the greatest musical ever created. In FOLLIES the time is 1971, and theatrical impresario Dimitri Weissmann hosts a reunion of ex-Follies performers in his crumbling theatre, setting the stage for a parade of brilliant pastiche numbers, including "Losing My Mind," "I'm Still Here," and "Broadway Baby." Amid the reminiscing, two middle-aged couples confront some unpleasant truths about their past and present and come face to face with the future. Surreal, sophisticated, compelling, heart-wrenching and epic in scope, FOLLIES uses the musical theatre as a metaphor for the collapse of American innocence and naiveté in the post-Kennedy years.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A New Sketch Group Debuts at the Kick Comedy Theater in April
2014
The KC Improv Company presents Fountain City Sketch
Kansas City, MO, March 18th, 2014 — A brand-new sketch group,
produced by the KC Improv Company, will perform every Saturday
in April at the Kick Comedy Theater. The venue, located inside the
Westport Coffeehouse Theater and adjacent to Green Room Burgers
and Beer, will present Fountain City Sketch April 5th, 12th, 19th,
and 26th at 10pm.
This is the first sketch group produced by the KC Improv Company.
Directed by actor and playwright Brian Huther and stage-managed
by Maggie Cargill, the sketch group features KCIC members as well
as local performers.
Ben Auxier, Brandon Durkes, Anna Koehler, Ryan Hruza, Tim Marks,
and Kenzie West make up the group KC Improv has dubbed
"Fountain City Sketch."
The Fountain City process relies heavily on personal experience and
improvisation.
Tapping into their own past, the cast members of the comedy group
present ideas to the ensemble. Ideas become more scripted and
refined through group feedback, improvisation, and
experimentation.
The group is aiming for a different kind of performance, as Huther
writes:
"Most Kansas Citians haven't been exposed to live comedy in this
way. They may have seen a touring comedian or even an improv
show, but this is a live experience where people who might live on
your street will share material refined over weeks of rehearsal and
editing. We hope to present a totally new experience of live comedy.
Movement, lights, music, interaction, surprises are around every
corner. This is going to be a show that's two steps ahead of you.
And we hope to make it a show that couldn't happen anywhere
else!"
Tickets for Fountain City Sketch are $10, $5 for students with valid
id, or $7 for groups of 6 or more.

NOTE: Along with so many other groundbreaking firsts, Hair is
credited as the first Broadway musical to contain nudity. This
production will honor that aspect of the script and its intent.
What is always referred to as "the nude scene" actually is The
Protest Scene. The protest is the last scene of Act I of which
the nudity is a result of a climatic, emotional response to
political suppression. The nudity occurs in a time span of
about twenty seconds. Please do not allow your apprehension
to appear nude onstage to dissuade you from auditioning.
This will be a topic of discussion during the chat portion of your
audition. Let the points in that discussion guide you to an
informed decision concerning your involvement in this
production. Your final decision will be fully respected and
honored by the production staff and the Barn Players
organization.
PRODUCTION DATES:
September 19 – October 5, 2014
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm
Sundays at 2:00pm
Industry Night is Monday, September 29th at 7:30pm
All performances take place at…
The Barn Players Theatre
6219 Martway in Mission, KS
SYNOPSIS:
Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active,
long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian
life in New York City and fighting the draft into the Vietnam
War. They struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the
sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their
conservative parents and society. They are challenged and
confront their convictions when one of their own is drafted. He
faces the decision to either resist the draft as his friends have
done, or to succumb to the pressures of his parents (and
conservative America) to serve in Vietnam, compromising his
pacifistic principles and risking his life.
CASTING: The cast of
Hair is called "the Tribe". This show, more than any other,
really is an ensemble piece. One in which the tribe of 21
members must work together as one single organism. There
are no lead roles, supporting roles, featured roles, or chorus
parts – just one collective. Tribe members are roughly
between the ages of 19 – 25. All Tribe members are onstage
at all times communicating the story to the audience. In doing
so, they also take on many and various characters in sketches
or scenes throughout the show. Those characters are listed
with each individual description below. Please note that some
roles and parts may shift due to the nature of the talents of the
tribe. All Tribe members all sing, dance and perform in Hair's
30+ songs.

theatre and the production team. But, due to the nature of the

BERNSTEIN'S BROADWAY returns to KC
*** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***
MUSICAL THEATER HERITAGE PRESENTS…
BERNSTEIN'S BROADWAY
OFF CENTER THEATRE – CROWN CENTER
March 27 – April 13
Musical Theater Heritage is bringing back their original review about the life of Leonard Bernstein and the fabulous music he wrote for the Broadway stage.
Written by MTH's Executive Director and Broadway historian, George Harter, and MTH's Artistic Director, Sarah Crawford, Bernstein's Broadway is a show celebrating
Leonard Bernstein's rarely-heard, music from West Side Story, On the Town, Candide, and Wonderful Town.
"Other than West Side Story, the musicals by Leonard Bernstein are seldom produced. There is some fabulous music in On The Town, for example that is never heard
today; in songs such as "Lucky to be Me", "Some Other Time" and "Lonely Town". On The Town in 1944 is especially historic, in that Bernstein's music expressed the
American Musical in symphonic terms for the first time". ~ George Harter.
Bernstein's Broadway was the first production by MTH at Crown Center's new, Off Center Theatre 2008, but it ran for only 8 performances. Since then, the MTH audience
has grown from 3,200 people per year to nearly 10,000, so now Bernstein's Broadway will run for 15 performances this time.
"We've had many of our long-time subscribers asking to bring it back. So we decided it was time to give our newest subscribers an opportunity to see this wonderful
production. We are very proud of it." says MTH Executive Producer, Chad Gerlt.
This year's production is again hosted and narrated by George Harter, with a cast of 15 comprising of Alison Sneegas Borberg, American Tenor, Ben Gulley, Stefanie
Wienecke, Jacob Aaron Cullum, Justin McCoy, Megan Herrera, Linnaia McKenzie, Megan Horsman, Kami Rodgers, Robert Hingula, Tyler Eisenreich and Bob Wearing. On piano
will be Jeremy Watson, with Brian Wilson; bass, and Tod Barnard; drums.
"I think our audience is going to be absolutely blown away by our cast and the powerful, moving, music that Leonard Bernstein has created. We are thrilled to bring it
back." says Artistic Director, Sarah Crawford.
MTH had a clever photo shoot the other day, where the cast took "vintage" press photos with the late Leonard Bernstein. Those photos are available in high-rez on the
Musical Theater Heritage facebook page.
Bernstein's Broadway runs Thursdays thru Sundays
March 27 – April 13 at the Off Center Theatre at Crown Center
Tickets are $17-$40, and student tickets are available for only $10

NOTE: Along with so many other groundbreaking firsts, Hair is credited as the first Broadway musical to contain nudity. This production will honor that aspect of the script and its intent. What is always referred to as "the nude scene" actually is The Protest Scene. The protest is the last scene of Act I of which the nudity is a result of a climatic, emotional response to political suppression. The nudity occurs in a time span of about twenty seconds. Please do not allow your apprehension to appear nude onstage to dissuade you from auditioning. This will be a topic of discussion during the chat portion of your audition. Let the points in that discussion guide you to an informed decision concerning your involvement in this production. Your final decision will be fully respected and honored by the production staff and the Barn Players organization.

SYNOPSIS:
Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting the draft into the Vietnam War. They struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society. They are challenged and confront their convictions when one of their own is drafted. He faces the decision to either resist the draft as his friends have done, or to succumb to the pressures of his parents (and conservative America) to serve in Vietnam, compromising his pacifistic principles and risking his life.
CASTING: The cast of Hair is called "the Tribe". This show, more than any other, really is an ensemble piece. One in which the tribe of 21 members must work together as one single organism. All Tribe members all sing, dance and perform in Hair's 30+ songs.

An exhilarating and white-knuckled look at one of our nation's founding rock stars, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON recreates and reinvents the life of "Old Hickory," from his humble beginnings on the Tennessee frontier to his days as Commander-in-Chief.
