Starlight's Vincent Legacy Scholarship
STARLIGHT NOW ACCEPTING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
The Vincent Legacy Scholarships give 6th, 7th and
8th graders the opportunity to receive
professional training in the performing arts
Starlight Theatre is now accepting applications
through April 8 for the Vincent Legacy
Scholarship for ethnically diverse youth in the
sixth, seventh and eighth grades who have a
passionate interest and strong ability in the
performing arts. Approximately two scholarships
will be awarded that will pay for up to $2,500 of
dance, voice or acting training for the selected
youth.
Starlight and local community leaders Greg and
Rebecca Reid created the Vincent Legacy
Scholarship Fund in 2006 and have since awarded 16
scholarships. The Reids have also organized a
generous $50,000 endowment fund for the
scholarship "to provide youth who show performing
arts promise the opportunity to further refine and
improve their skills through professional
instruction, but who otherwise might not be able
to secure additional training."
In addition to meeting ethnic and financial
criteria, students must show a passion for the
performing arts, maintain an academic achievement
level equal or greater than a "B" (3.0) grade
level, attend school regularly with no unexcused
absences, and demonstrate an interest in community
service.
The Vincent Legacy Scholarship is not solely
considered a financial award, said Amy Reinert,
Starlight Theatre Director of Education. The
winners of the scholarships join a group of
talented former winners as well as adult mentors
whose mission is to guide and encourage the
scholars as they advance in their performing arts
training while maturing into adulthood. Past
recipients continue to stay in touch and mentor
new recipients.
"They (past winners) have become leaders," Reinert
said. "These scholarships help the students see
themselves in a way they might not be able to see
prior to this process. Their training is helping
them to become singers, dancers and actors, but
combined with the mentoring they are receiving,
these students become more focused, more self-
reliant and clearly more confident. I've seen this
attitude also spread amongst their families.
A great example of this confidence and mentoring
was apparent at last year's Vincent Legacy
Scholarship holiday celebration, she said, when a
former recipient who now danced with the
University of Kansas Dance Squad, eloquently told
the group, "People expect us to fail. Don't live
up to that expectation."
Applications for the Vincent Legacy Scholarship
and a list of past recipients are available at

The Vincent Legacy Scholarships give 6th, 7th and
8th graders the opportunity to receive
professional training in the performing arts
Starlight Theatre is now accepting applications
through April 8 for the Vincent Legacy
Scholarship for ethnically diverse youth in the
sixth, seventh and eighth grades who have a
passionate interest and strong ability in the
performing arts. Approximately two scholarships
will be awarded that will pay for up to $2,500 of
dance, voice or acting training for the selected
youth.
Starlight and local community leaders Greg and
Rebecca Reid created the Vincent Legacy
Scholarship Fund in 2006 and have since awarded 16
scholarships. The Reids have also organized a
generous $50,000 endowment fund for the
scholarship "to provide youth who show performing
arts promise the opportunity to further refine and
improve their skills through professional
instruction, but who otherwise might not be able
to secure additional training."
In addition to meeting ethnic and financial
criteria, students must show a passion for the
performing arts, maintain an academic achievement
level equal or greater than a "B" (3.0) grade
level, attend school regularly with no unexcused
absences, and demonstrate an interest in community
service.
The Vincent Legacy Scholarship is not solely
considered a financial award, said Amy Reinert,
Starlight Theatre Director of Education. The
winners of the scholarships join a group of
talented former winners as well as adult mentors
whose mission is to guide and encourage the
scholars as they advance in their performing arts
training while maturing into adulthood. Past
recipients continue to stay in touch and mentor
new recipients.
"They (past winners) have become leaders," Reinert
said. "These scholarships help the students see

Ordinary Days a NEW Musical
She&Her Productions*
She&Her Productions
Ordinary Days by Adam Gwon: Apr 5-14: 8 pm Thr-
Sat, Mon; 2 pm Sun
From one of musical theatre's most exciting new
composers comes ORDINARY DAYS, a refreshingly
honest and funny musical about making real
connections in the city that never sleeps (but
probably should at some point.) ORDINARY DAYS

happiness, love and cabs. Through a score of
vibrant and memorable songs, their experiences
ring startlingly true to life. ORDINARY DAYS is an
original musical for anyone who's ever struggled
to appreciate the simple things in a complex
place. With equal doses of humor and poignancy, it
celebrates how 8.3 million individual stories
combine in unexpected ways to make
New York City such a unique and extraordinary
home.
Directed by Tiffany Garrison-Schweigert. Featuring
Katie Meador, Valerie Dykes, Steven Ansel James,
and John Cleary.
$10-$15. Just Off Broadway Theatre, 3051 Central

Moving Sculptures, Telling Stories - A movement for theater workshop - THIS WEEKEND!
The moment you arrive on stage, before you even open your mouth, you have begun telling a story. Learning to sculpt your movements allows you to communicate with your audience more directly and with greater variety and precision. In this workshop we will delve into the techniques of both Marcel Marceau and Etienne Decroux (father of Corporeal Mime). We will explore the importance of weight, form, rhythm and breath in creating character, illusion, and story in search of a more complete actor.
The weekend's focus will be three-fold: Illusion, Rhythm and Articulation.
Starting with the basics of creating illusions, the miming of physical actions, we will also look briefly at the metaphoric application of lifting weight, pushing and pulling (or being pushed and pulled). Both action and metaphor require rhythm, which we will address through Decroux's dynamo-rhythms, learning to give texture to a phrase of movement. And finally, to articulate their body as carefully as their words, students will be introduced to the scales and triple designs that allow them to make precise choices about their movement and the idea or emotion it communicates to the audience.
At The New Centuries Follies Studio inside The Arts Asylum
1000 E 9th Street, Kansas City MO.64106
The New Century Follies National Conservatory of Vaudeville is on the third floor of the west wing. Enter through the stage door in the rear of the building, easily accessed in the parking lot.
Saturday and Sunday, March 23 & 24
10:00 - 5:00 both days
dress for movement, bring plenty of water and snacks
there will be a one hour lunch break.
$100 - Contact Byrd Productions at 816-305-8188
to reserve your spot or go to www.byrdproductions.org
Kirsten is a graduate of L'Ecole International de Mimordrame de Marcel Marceau in Paris,France. She first discovered the magic of inclinations and rotations and triple designs at a church in Oklahoma City, finally deciding to head for Paris to audition for the school. She spent the next three years studying with Marceau, as well as the world's foremost practitioners of Corporeal Mime (which is to mime what ballet is to dance), rounded out with classes in dance, fencing and acrobatics. Following graduation, Kirsten spent another year and a half touring Europe with some of her classmates as Mime de Rien in an original production titled Le Pese, le Flouze, le Blé. Returning to the US, she moved to Minneapolis where she met Dean Hatton at the MargolisBrown physical theater company. Discovering a common love of mime-based movement theater, the two have been working together as Kirsten and Dean since 2001.

I-Mime, There's An App For That! Tonight ONLY!!!
The ultimate low-tech adventure in a high-tech world
www.byrdproductions.org
Inspired by irretrievable hours sucked into Angry Birds, YouTube and deciphering privacy settings. Each "app" opens a window into the bizarre, addictive and sometimes surprisingly human things we follow, share, and become with our gadgets.
Written and performed by Kirsten Stephens. Kirsten combines her years of training with world famous mime Marcel Marceau with the experience of navigating the wireless world of instant connection and digital entertainment to create a show of painfully funny visual puns that anyone who uses the Internet can relate to. What else should she have done with all that training? (ask her parents)
If you've seen previous incarnations of this show - you're in for a treat! She keeps some of her favorites and adds some new hilarious numbers - due to new "research" in online dating and the similarities between Google and Droopy the Dog.
Alas, there is only one performance of this show:
8:00, Friday March 22nd at The Arts Asylum
Tickets are only $10 for adults,
$8 for students/seniors/military/KCFringe button holders
$5 for kids 16 and younger

Press Release - Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George
PRESS RELEASE 3/18/2013
MUSICAL THEATER HERITAGE
PRESENTING STEPHEN SONDHEIM'S
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
Musical Theater Heritage (MTH) will open their 11th season with the Kansas City premiere of the Pulitzer Prize winning SUNDAY IN
THE PARK WITH GEORGE, by Stephen Sondheim. Inspired by the painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by
Georges Seurat, SUNDAY opened on Broadway in 1984 and received 10 Tony nominations.
MTH's Executive Producer Chad Gerlt states, "The Pulitzer Prize for Drama has been awarded to a Musical only 8 times. It was
awarded to this show because of its commentary on the making of art, and the struggle every artist goes through, regardless of
the medium. This complex and diverse score is rarely produced on professional stages."
Of the original production in 1984, Frank Rich of The New York Times wrote: "Mr. Sondheim has created an audacious, haunting and
touching work. Sunday in the Park is setting the stage for even more sustained theatrical innovations yet to come."
In the title role of George, MTH will feature Kansas City favorite Tim Scott. Playing George's female counterpart, Dot, will be
Katie Karel. Kansas City audiences will remember them both from MTH's 2011 production of EVITA. The production is directed by
Sarah Crawford and will feature a 10-member orchestra, and 17-member cast.
Additionally, MTH is proud to welcome Kansas City's premiere Art museum, The Nelson-Atkins museum of Art, as an official sponsor
of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. The Nelson will send a museum curator to offer a brief pre-show talk about French
Impressionism, Seurat, and his 2 masterpieces at the matinee performances on Sunday, March 31 and Sunday, April 7 at 2pm.
Sunday in the Park with George will play the Off Center Theatre in Crown Center March 28 - April 14, 2013.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 816.842.9999 or by visiting www.MTHKC.com

Bathroom Humor
Paradise Playhouse Dinner Theatre
Bathroom Humor by Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore: Mar 22-Apr 13: 6 pm Fri-Sat; 7 pm Thr; 12 pm Sun
Van Zandt and Milmore have certainly come up with a novel setting: the play takes place in the bathroom in a home during a party, a handy place for gossip and hanky panky, where we learn of the wild and crazy things going on at the party. The authors have ingeniously contrived this play so that we feel that, if we had gone to this party we, too, might have spent most of the time hiding out in the bathroom. Directed by R. Cress Hewitt. Featuring Jill Camper, Julie Houser, Sarah Griggs Love, Ron McQuillen, Patrick Simpson, T.J. Blodgett, Mick Turpin, and Mike Turpin.
$30.00 to $32.00. Paradise Playhouse Dinner Theatre, 101 Spring St, (816) 630-3333, www.paradiseplayhouse.org (Adult Fare)

KCAT announces 2013-2014 Season
Contact: Audrey Porsche
Director of Development & Marketing
Kansas City Actors Theatre
Audrey@kcactors.org
(719) 640-9491
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kansas City Actors Theatre announces its 2013-2014 Season,
beginning with a summer of American Masterworks.
The summer begins with a celebration of the 100th birthday of our
own William Inge. To commemorate this event, KCAT will offer a
production of one of his most well-loved plays, and one very
appropriate to the season, Picnic.
Picnic is a charming, uplifting and heartbreaking story of one life-
changing day in the lives of two households in a small Kansas town
in the early 1950s. The play centers around the chemistry between
two main characters: Madge Owens, a pretty 18-year-old girl, and
Hal Carter, a young vagabond. Madge is coming of age, and is in
the midst of an existential crisis, wondering if there is more to her
life than being a pretty girl destined to marry the first acceptable
man who asks. Then Hal arrives in town, and his presence has a
seismic effect on Madge as well as the other members of the
Owens' extended family. Hal sees in Madge a chance for an
emotional attachment more deep and real than any in his shiftless
life up to this point. All the characters in the play get caught up in
the resulting whirlwind of passion and longing, making this a
summer picnic like no other.
Next, is a timeless masterwork from the towering talent of Eugene
O'Neill, A Long Day's Journey into Night. A loving semi-
autobiographical homage to O'Neill's family, Long Day's Journey is
a harrowing, unblinking, booze and dope-fueled descent into the
revelation of dark truths and bitter love. It is also a dizzying
display of O'Neill's mastery of powerful dialogue, and an
opportunity for virtuoso performances. An unforgettable theatrical
experience, courtesy of KCAT.
After the summer, with dates and venues to be determined, the
season continues with two more productions.
In our fifth co-production with the Unicorn Theatre, KCAT will
present Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities, which has won the
Drama League Award for Distinguished Play, along with a Tony
Award and a Drama Desk Award. In Other Desert Cities, Brooke
Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to
celebrate Christmas with her family. Brooke announces that she is
about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event
in the family's history--a wound they don't want reopened. In
effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it.
Then, in a co-production with UMKC and the WWI Museum, KCAT
will present R.C. Sherriff's powerful WWI drama, Journey's End. Set
in the trenches at Saint-Quentin, Aisne in 1918 towards the end of
WWI, the play takes you right into the dugout of a British Army
infantry company. It is an "uncompromising, cleareyed play about
war--and not war as it echoes on the home front or in chambers
of government, but war as a daily phonomenon for those who fight
it." (Ben Brantley, New York Times). Filled with finely-drawn
characters, Journey's End brings a starkly human perspective in a
WWI tale that is not to be missed.
KCAT's summer productions will be staged at Union Station's H&R
Block City Stage beginning August 6th and running through
September 15. Season subscriptions go on sale in May at
www.kcactors.org or by calling the Central Ticket Office at
816.235.6222.
Kansas City Actors Theatre is celebrating its ninth season of
producing classic and modern-classic plays featuring Kansas City
theatre artists.

Moving Sculptures, Telling Stories - A movement for theater workshop
Byrd Productions Presents:
Moving Sculptures, Telling Stories - A movement for theater workshop by Kirsten Stephens

The New Century Follies National Conservatory of Vaudeville is on the third floor of the west wing. Enter through the stage door in the rear of the building, easily accessed in the parking lot.

Kirsten is a graduate of L'Ecole International de Mimordrame de Marcel Marceau in Paris,France. She first discovered the magic of inclinations and rotations and triple designs at a church
in Oklahoma City, finally deciding to head for Paris to audition for the school. She spent the next three years studying with Marceau, as well as the world's foremost practitioners of Corporeal
Mime (which is to mime what ballet is to dance), rounded out with classes in dance, fencing and acrobatics. Following graduation, Kirsten spent another year and a half touring Europe with
some of her classmates as Mime de Rien in an original production titled Le Pese, le Flouze, le Blé. Returning to the US, she moved to Minneapolis where she met Dean Hatton at the MargolisBrown physical theater company. Discovering a common love of mime-based
movement theater, the two have been working together as Kirsten and Dean since 2001.

I-Mime, There's An App For That!
The ultimate low-tech adventure in a high-tech world
http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/338812!
$5 for kids 16 and younger

choreographed by MTYP Alumni and NYC choreographer Roy
Lightner, and will be music directed by Julie Danielson, MTYP's
Artistic and Resident Music Director. The show will feature 32
students from the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time,
Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of how a down-and out skid
row floral assistant, Seymour, becomes an overnight sensation
when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for
fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-
mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune
in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself
to be an alien creature poised for global domination!

Superstar Dream: THE BELIEVERS national tour
SuperStar Dream: THE BELIEVERS is the story of the original disciples of Jesus Christ walking in 2013!
Description
What would the world be like if the original Apostles walked today? They'd probably look like a combination of a rock & hip hop band! Mary and Martha Magdelene would be the stars of the Bad Girls Club beefing with Lady Gaga and Beyonce! The religious leaders of today probably wouldn't accept any of them. No need to wonder you'll see for yourself in Superstar Dreams: THE BELIEVERS!
Plot Outline
Jesus went to pray in the final hours and told the disciples, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." In such a deep moment what did they do? Fall asleep 3 times! The first question asked may be why were they so tired... but the writer of this epic production poses the question, "What were they dreaming about while asleep?" SuperStar Dreams: THE BELIEVERS
You must rsvp to schedule an audition time BEFORE 1pm.
