Ordinary Days
Music and Lyrics by Adam Gwon
From one of musical theatre's most exciting new
composers comes ORDINARY DAYS, a refreshingly
honest and funny musical about making real
connections in the city that never sleeps (but
probably should at some point.) ORDINARY DAYS
tells the story of four young New Yorkers whose
lives intersect as they search for fulfillment,
happiness, love and cabs. Through a score of
vibrant and memorable songs, their experiences
ring startlingly true to life. ORDINARY DAYS is an
original musical for anyone who's ever struggled
to appreciate the simple things in a complex
place. With equal doses of humor and poignancy, it
celebrates how 8.3 million individual stories
combine in unexpected ways to make New York City
such a unique and extraordinary home.

April 12 – 28, 2013
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm

The Barn Players Theatre
6219 Martway in Mission, KS
SYNOPSIS:
The collaborators on Chess (Music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of the pop group ABBA and lyrics by Tim Rice of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita) have created a complex rock opera that played to full Broadway houses and standing ovations. Here, the ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, competitive gamesmanship, super power politics and international intrigues. The pawns in this drama form a love triangle: the loutish American chess star, the earnest Russian champion and a Hungarian American female assistant who arrives at the international chess match in Bangkok with the American but falls for the Russian. From Bangkok to Budapest the players, lovers, politicians, and spies manipulate and are manipulated to the pulse of a monumental rock score that includes "One Night in Bangkok" and "Heaven Help My Heart."
CAST BREAKDOWN:
Florence – Strong belt voice (to E). Mid-30's. Born in Hungary (so musn't look like an "All-American Girl"); has been brought up in America since 1956. She is clever, theatrical, touching, vivacious, volatile. Frederick's chess "second."
Freddie – Rock tenor (to C). Mid-30's. An American chess champion. A cross between Bobby Fisher and John McEnroe. Arrogant and temperamental, but a genius; his chess playing is revolutionary. We need to see his artistry along with his danger and his obsessiveness.
Anatoly – Baritone (to G sharp). Early forties. A Russian chess champion. Unexpectedly charming. He doesn't seem a romantic hero at first, but becomes one through his personality. An intelligent, feeling, passionate man.
Molokov – Bass (down to F sharp). Fifties. Not a fake, comic, stage Russian. Intellectually formidable. Seeminly a father figure to Florence. Anatoly's chess "second." An actor who sings well.
Svetlana: – Strong belt voice. Late thirties. Anatoly's wife. Domestic, wholesome, homey. A dramatic contrast to Florence-not a contemporary cosmopolitan woman.
Walter – bass-baritone (down to G sharp). Fifties. A marketing agent. Seemingly respectable, substantial, trustworthy. An actor who sings well.
Arbiter – Rock high baritone (up to A). Thirty to early forties. International businessman. Smooth, but with a quick temper.
PLUS A LARGE CHORUS
The Barn Players embraces diversity in all aspects of our organization. Non-traditional and equal-opportunity casting is encouraged.

Starlight's Fllat Stanley at the Kauffman Center
The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley
Performs at Kauffman Center January 18-20
Musical comedy kicks off second season of Starlight Children's Theatre
The beloved children's book, Flat Stanley, comes to life when Starlight Children's Theatre presents The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, January 18-20 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway.
The musical comedy is the story of Stanley Lambchop who becomes flattened when his bulletin board above his bed falls on top of him while he is sleeping. In a whirlwind travelogue, Stanley - the ultimate exchange student - scours the globe for a solution to his unusual problem. He's stamped, posted and cancelled from Hollywood to France to Honolulu and beyond. And whether he's thwarting a robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris, or 'hanging ten' off the coast of Hawaii, Stanley is closing in on his goal of being a three-dimensional boy once more.
"Starlight Children's Theatre and the creative team of Flat Stanley have assembled an A-list cast, full of Kansas City's favorite musical theatre performers," said Andy Parkhurst, co-director and choreographer. "Cathy Barnett and Tom Lancaster are two of our city's finest comedians, and Katie Karel, Phillip Russell Newman and Alex Herrera represent our most celebrated young performers. With production values that are only possible with Starlight Theatre and the Kauffman Center, this production is equally enjoyable for adults and kids."
Starlight Children's Theatre, now in its second season, is a partnership between the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and Starlight Theatre with the goal of creating fully produced children's theatre productions for Kansas City. The partnership also allows for qualified schools to receive bus money to attend the school matinees through Kauffman Center's Open Doors Transportation Fund. The school matinees for The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley are January 16-18.
"For many young audience members, Starlight Children's Theatre at the Kauffman Center provides a first-ever experience of seeing a live stage show," Parkhurst said. "Having performed for Starlight Theatre as a 13- and 14-year- old, then returning as a New York actor to inaugurate the 2000 renovations, it is wonderfully full circle directing for Starlight Children's Theatre. The Kauffman Center has helped put Kansas City on the international map as a true arts city, and it's an honor to work with both organizations."
Price Chopper is the presenting sponsor for Starlight Children's Theatre; Panera Bread and Farmer's Insurance Group are also sponsors.

Open Call for Auditions
The River City Community Players announce there will be an Open-Call for Auditions for
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Music and Lyrics by William Finn, Book by Rachel Sheinkin.
Directed by MB Hurst.
Auditions will be held Jan 2-4 beginning at 7 p.m. Wed-Fri.
If one of your 2013 resolutions is to be part of a musical production; this is your first chance to accomplish that resolution.
Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser.
The show is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime and creates the unlikeliest of heroes for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.
Please prepare 32 bars of a Broadway style selection (nothing from Spelling Bee). An accompanist and CD player will be provided. NO ACCAPELLA singing, tapes, or USB plug-ins.
Bring a resume and a complete list of conflicts from January 8-March 9. A current headshot is welcome, but not required.
Visit us at https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/176723789135633/?fref=ts for more information about the audition or email MB at mb.hurst33@gmail.com if you have any questions.
The Leavenworth Performing Arts Center is located at 500 Delaware St., Leavenworth, KS (913) 651-0027, www.rccplv.com
Performance dates are Feb. 23, 23; Mar. 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 8 p.m. and Mar. 3 matinee at 2 p.m.

Please arrive at callbacks with a list of potential rehearsal conflicts from February 17 through April 21.
REHEARSALS:
Rehearsals will begin on or about February 17 and will typically run Sunday-Thursday from 7-10 p.m.
Tech week would begin Easter Sunday, so special scheduling may occur that weekend to avoid the holiday.
PRODUCTION DATES:
Apr 5-7, 12-14, 19-21, 2013
Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm
Sundays at 2:00pm
All performances take place at:
Olathe Community Theatre Assn

SYNOPSIS:
The Fantasticks is the simple story of a boy (Matt) and a girl (Luisa) who fall in love on either side of a wall that has been erected between their houses by their fathers (Bellomy and Huckabee) in a plot to trick their children into falling in love with each other. Bellomy and Huckabee eventually arrange for Luisa to be abducted by a dashing villain (El Gallo, who also serves as the play's narrator) and two actors for hire (Henry and Mortimer). This plan does not proceed as planned as the children learn of their fathers' deception, causing a rift in their romance and decide to go off into the real world instead. This world proves more difficult than they had bargained for and each eventually returns home a more mature person ready to accept their relationship as it is.
PRODUCTION CREW:
Director/Choreographer: David Martin
Musical Director: Sara Blakesley
Assistant Musical Director/Accompanist: Michelle McIntyre
Stage Manager: DK Evenson
Set Designer: RickL and Mickie Riley
Lighting Designer: Chuck Cline
Costume Designer: Kerry Schafer
Properties: Valerie Martin
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN(age breakdown indicates playable age NOT actual age):
EL GALLO (male, late 20s to early 40s, SINGING role – baritone:
The bandit/narrator. He needs to be charismatic with a versatile voice that is both powerful and melodic. Think a singing version of Zorro – complete with the cape.
MATT (male, late teens to 20s, SINGING role – tenor):
Half of the main pair of lovers in the show. He needs to be young and ambitious, but a little quirky wouldn't be a bad thing. Must be similar in age to Luisa.
LUISA (female, late teens to 20s, SINGING role – soprano):
Half of the main pair of lovers in the show. She must be young and innocent but with a hint of worldly wisdom about her. Must be similar in age to Matt.
HUCKLEBEE (male or female, 40s to 60s, SINGING role) – The father/mother of Matt. Hucklebee takes a wait and see approach to parenting and gardening, preferring not to do too much. Age range will be determined in conjunction with Matt as Hucklebee must be believable as Matt's parent.
BELLOMY (male or female, 40s to 60s, SINGING role) –
The father/mother of Luisa. Bellomy has the opposite approach to parenting and gardening, preferring to overwork with the thought that too much of a good thing is never bad. Age range will be determined in conjunction with Luisa as Bellomy must be believable as Luisa's parent.
HENRY (male, 30s to 70s, NON-SINGING role) –
Described as "an old actor" may be played younger with age makeup or older. He is hired by El Gallo to help abduct Luisa and portray Matt as her savior. He is an experienced stage veteran, at least in his own mind. Improvisational skills are a plus.
MORTIMER (male, any age, NON-SINGING role) –
Henry's partner in crime and in staging scenes, Mortimer is a "man who dies." The actor playing this role will need to be a large character and comfortable with physical comedy. Improvisational skills are a plus.
THE MUTE (female, any age, NON-SINGING role) –
And, in fact, a non-speaking role, but a vital one to the production. The Mute needs to be able to drift into the background and be totally unobtrusive at times and be the most expressive person on stage at other times. In my opinion, this is the hardest role in the show.
NOTE – Henry, Mortimer, and The Mute will be called on fewer nights as there is no music for them to learn.

Dec 15 Deadline - Call for Directors - OCTA - 2013-2014
Directors wanted: passion required!
The board of directors of the Olathe Community Theater Association (OCTA) is looking for directors for our 2013-2014 season. We'd like to invite you to submit a slate of NO MORE THAN THREE scripts you'd like to direct at OCTA. If possible, please provide any license fees for each script submitted (9 performances, house seats 100, average ticket price $17). Send your ideas to us at this email address: (octa.directors@olathetheatre.org), accompanied by your theatrical resume, by December 15, 2012. Additionally, please indicate the months of the year, from late Fall 2013 to late Spring 2014 that you are available.
This year OCTA is selecting its season from submissions from directors and selections from the OCTA Season Selection Committee. We encourage all directors to submit shows that you have a passion for. However, an important consideration to keep in mind when you submit shows to OCTA is that our season is typically five shows, only one of which is a musical. The rest of the season is usually a mix of comedies and dramas. For the best chance of having one of your scripts selected for the 2012-13 season, please include a variety of genres in your submission. If, however, there's one show that's your dream show, by all means, submit it. We'll review it and see if we can fit it into our season. At OCTA we respect and encourage your passion for the material.
Another point to think about is the size of the facility. OCTA productions have certainly stretched and put the facility to the test, but we're not going to be putting on Starlight Express in our space. The OCTA stage and theater are both wonderfully intimate spaces that are geared toward smaller shows -- although many of our past productions have used quite imaginative staging to stretch the space. Our stage dimensions are included with this letter to use as a guideline for any scripts you care to submit. Also, you can obtain a list of our past shows, to give you a sense of the sort of productions that we've done before. (Don't be afraid to submit a show that you see on the list, at OCTA we're open to reviving a production from our history).
At OCTA we own our own building. You get to rehearse in the performance space from day one. You won't be lugging props or costumes from one location to another. Also, we don't interfere with your artistic decisions. Show us you can do it and we'll help make it possible!
If one of your submissions is considered for our season, we'll contact you to set up an interview. So, take a moment to consider partnering with us to produce a great piece of theater. Send in your suggestions and resume today!
****Deadline for submission is December 15, 2012.****
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Ellie DeShon
Chair, OCTA Season Selection Committee
P.S. We're serious about the three script limit. Any scripts besides the first three listed will not be considered.

Call for Directors - OCTA - 2013-2014

1939 Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's novel. While fending off the film's stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.

Victor Fleming-famous director extraordinaire; male age 40-55

Wed-Sat, Mon; 3 pm Sun. Produced by Kelsey
Kallenberger and Hailey Jones for Play On
Productions.
This holiday season, take some time out of your
busy schedule to see people get clobbered by large
pieces of iron. Back by popular demand from it's
successful debut in the 2012 KC Fringe Festival,
"Skillet Tag" is now a full length, revised,
wilder than ever theatrical experience. If you
couldn't get enough this summer or missed it at
Fringe, now is your chance to catch this wacky
story about a group of employees summoned to the
boss' house for an unusual "team building
exercise", where things go horribly askew after an
accidental murder.
Raves from the 2012 Fringe Festival:
"I can't say why, but there's something highly
amusing — and imminently satisfying — about seeing
somebody get hit on the head with a frying pan..."
"That particular brand of comic violence is
central to Pete Bakely's "Skillet Tag," a raucous
farce that finds time to satirize the global
economy between outrageous acts of onstage
violence."
Robert Trussell - The Kansas City Star
"As someone who has been in numerous team building
situations, I am glad to say that no one has died,
however, we also never had as much fun as I did
watching "Skillet Tag". "

Les Misérables to Open the Jewish Community Centers White Theatre 2013-2014 Season
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
For more information, please contact: Krista Blackwood – Director of Cultural Arts - Jewish Community Center kristab@jewishkc.org
(913) 327-8073
Les Misérables to Open the Jewish Community Center's White Theatre 2013-2014 Season
The international hit musical Les Misérables will open the 2013-14 season at the White Theatre at the Jewish Community Center, announced Director of Cultural Arts Krista Blackwood.
The JCC production will likely be a regional premier for the mega hit -- the first locally produced and cast, complete version in the Kansas City area. The licensing company only recently began offering community theaters a chance to obtain the rights, and Blackwood said she couldn't get her application sent fast enough.
"Landing Les Misérables for White Theatre is a huge coup for the JCC," Blackwood said. "Les Mis at the White Theatre will be a must see for 2013-2014. We're proud to be able to highlight the vast and deep pool of local talent in the Kansas City area with such amazing material in such a wonderful venue."
Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, Les Misérables is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score includes the classic songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Stars," "Bring Him Home," "Do You Hear the People Sing?," "One Day More," "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables," "Master Of The House" and many more.
Les Misérables opened in London in 1985 and has been running ever since. It played Broadway for 6,680 performances from 1987 through 2003 and again from 2006 to 2008, and has played in 42 countries in 21 languages.
But the licensing company has never opened up the rights to community theaters.
Until now.
Last week, the White Theatre at the Jewish Community Center was granted the right to do the full-blown, Broadway version of Les Misérables in November 2013.
A touring production of Les Misérables will play the Music Hall in Kansas City this December but the White Theatre's show will be the first production in the Kansas City area to use all local talent.
"There's a school edition of the musical that has been out for a while but a full-scale Les Miserables has not yet been locally produced in the Kansas City area. We'll be the first," says Jewish Community Center's Director of Cultural Arts, Krista Blackwood.
For further information please contact Krista Blackwood, Director of Cultural Arts at 913-327-8073 or kristab@jewishkc.org.
The mission of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City is to enrich our diverse community by cultivating an inclusive environment built upon Jewish values, heritage and culture. We offer programs of excellence that enhance wellness, meaning and joy from generation to generation.

Call for Directors - OCTA - 2013-2014

Next To Normal Talk Back!
She&Her Productions*
November 17,18
Directed by Tiffany Garrison-Schweigert
Music Director and Conductor: Jim Vinkenberg
So here is the scoop for this final weekend of
Next To Normal!
Saturday the 17th stay for the Talk Back after the
show led by the Amazing Kristin Leathers *This
performance is likely to sell out so get your
tickets now. We suggest purchasing online or
showing up to theatre at 7pm with cash.
Leading the discussion will be Kristin Leathers,
Kristin Leathers, PsyD, (Diana) is a
singer/actress in Kansas City. During a 16 year
break from performing, Kristin completed both her
Masters Degree and Doctorate in Clinical
Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional
Psychology. She worked with patients in hospital
(inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room) and
collegiate counseling settings throughout her
training. Specializing in Trauma (as well as in
GLBT issues and in Substance Abuse), Kristin saw
the effects and symptomology of many disorders in
the Mood, Anxiety, and Schizophrenia spectrums in
her clients. Performing the role of Diana, a woman
experiencing the emotional roller coaster of
Bipolar Disorder and the family dynamics that go
along with it, has been a unique opportunity that
combines Kristin's knowledge and experience in two
fields: theatre and psychology. She believes
theatre, and especially musical theatre, is a
unique educational tool that can access alternate
cognitive pathways for processing which are
unavailable in traditional academics alone. Next
to Normal is a Pulitzer Prize winning example of
this theory, and Kristin feels fortunate to be
able to be part of it.
Sunday the 18th is the final performance :( SEE

Winner: Three 2009 Tony Awards® and 2010 Pulitzer
Prize! Meet Diana–sexy, sharp and desperately
trying to hold on to her family, including husband
Dan–handsome, genuine and hard-working, struggling
to juggle being a father and a husband. Welcome to
the world of NEXT TO NORMAL, the brilliant,
evocative winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize that
takes us inside the lives of a typical American
family that's anything but typical. Contains
Strong Language and Themes.
Next To Normal CAST
Daniel Beeman is a Nebraska-born 19 year-old who
just loves to be on stage. He has been performing
through several outlets such as ballet, jazz, tap,
musical theatre, show choir, and other choral
programs for over 10 years. He is also an
accomplished competitive Irish dancer, having
recently competed at the World Championships in
Ireland. He has had the privilege to perform solo
and with professional acts on stages in Belfast,
Omaha, Branson, Nashville, Chicago, Kansas City,
and Orlando. Musical theatre credits include Timon
in The Lion King, Linus in The Music Man, Link
Larkin in scenes from Hairspray, and starring as
Alex in his high school's originial musical
production, Turning Green. Daniel is also the Duke
of the Show Me Pride Youth Royalty Court and has
been performing in the weekly "MJ Knight's Dinner
is a Drag Show" at Hamburger Mary's Kansas City.
He plans to continue performing and thanks his
family and friends for theirundying support
through everything he does!
Graham Fairleigh is making his She&Her debut. Some
of Graham's favorite roles on the KC stage
include; Barrett in Titanic, Cinderella's Prince
in Into The Woods, Man 2 in Songs for a New World,
The Boss in Side Show and Cladwell in Urinetown.
Graham has also performed as a Cabaret artist and
a concert soloist in various venues around the
Kansas City area.
Robert Hingula is ecstatic to be a part of Next to
Normal and his first show with She & Her
Productions. Robert has appeared in numerous other
performances in the KC-Metro area including Tommy
(Tommy), [title of show](Hunter), The Wedding
Singer (Robbie Hart), Rent (Roger), Aida (Zoser),
Grease (Kenickie), Oklahoma!(Curley), and
Footloose (Chuck Cranston). This summer Robert
will be appearing in Sweeney Todd (Sweeney) and
You're a Good Man Charlie Brown! (Snoopy) at
Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park. When not on
stage, Robert spends his days practicing
employment law at Polsinelli Shughart PC. He
attributes all his success to his super-hot wife,
Melissa (whose continued support allows him to
come out and play) and his beautiful daughter,
Darcie (whose own talent and awesomeness inspires
him – and keeps him laughing – daily).
Matthew King is very excited to work with 'She &
Her Productions' and to be apart of the Kansas
City premiere of 'Next to Normal'. Although he is
from Kansas City, he has most recently stepped
onto the theatre scene after returning from the
Roosevelt Conservatory for Musical Theatre and
hopes to continue strive within this wonderful
market even further. His most recent projects in
the city have been Collins in 'Rent' at the Barn
Players, Horton in 'Seussical' at Theatre in the
Park and the Coterie Theatre's 'Once Upon a
Mattress'. He is excited to to share the story of
such a brave musical to Kansas City community!
Kristin Leathers is the Owner/Chef of Alter Ego
Catering and Cakes (www.alteregofood.com/), has
her Doctorate and Masters in Clinical Psychology,
has her Bachelors in Radio/TV/Film, and oh, right,
is a Singer/Actor around KC. One might say her
career has been a bit Bipolar thus prepping her
for Diana (a role that jumped to the top of her
dream list the second she heard the cast album).
Kristin has been seen on stage around town at MET,
The Chestnut, OCTA, The Barn Players, Theatre in
the Park, MTH, and The White Theatre. Favorite
roles include: Woman 2 (SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD),
Trix (THE DROWSY CHAPERONE), Rhoda (A NEW BRAIN),
Dorothy Brock (42ND STREET), Daisy Hilton (SIDE
SHOW), and Gabby/Bobbi (CITY OF ANGELS). Having
started the year with ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S
NEST at MET and ending it with NEXT TO NORMAL, it
would seem Kristin is spending 2012 finding some
unexpected synchronicity between her stage work
and her psych doctorate. Which is cool. And doing
this role with Graham as her doctor is about as
perfect as anything could be. Her husband
(Maneesh) and her children (Holden and Tierney)
are a remarkable gift in her life, and she
dedicates her performance as Diana to them more
than any other performance she has ever done.
Hugs, therapy, meds, Bipolar cycling, and
stability to all three of you: I love you all even
more than this part. : )
Deanna Mazdra is thrilled to be a part of Next to
Normal as her first show with She and Her! She
graduated from the University of Central Missouri
where she played such roles as Little Red in Into
the Woods, Connie in A Chorus Line, Milady inThe
Three Musketeers and various roles with the
Central Missouri Repertory company. She was last
seen inReckless as Rachel with Relevance
Productions. Deanna also works as a peer educator
with the Coterie Theatre in their Dramatic Aids
Education project. She is so excited for this show
and for the chance to work with such wonderful
people!
