Childrens Dance Theater & Apprentice Company Concert Sunday, June 7, 2015
For immediate release: May 20, 2015
Contact: Andrea Skowronek, 816-210-1192, andreaskowronek@yahoo.com
Director, City in Motion Children's Dance Theater
Children's Dance Theater & Apprentice Company Concert
Sunday, June 7, 2015
KANSAS CITY, MO — City in Motion is proud to present its annual Children's Dance Theater & Apprentice Company concert at 4 p.m. at the St. Teresa's Academy Auditorium, 5600 Main St. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors and will be available at the door.
The concert will feature "Songs for Unusual Creatures" by Andrea Skowronek choreographed for the Children's Dance Theater. "Songs for Unusual Creatures" is a suite of six dances set to music by Michael Hearst: March of the Unusual Creatures, Jesus Christ Lizard, Weddell Seal, Honey Badger, Glass Frog and Dugong. Michael Hearst's score features unusual instruments played by the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots and the Kronos Quartet.
Dale Fellin's piece "Tyndall Effect," set to music by Paranoid Soul, was created for the Apprentice Company. Mr. Fellin choreographed movement phrases for the dancers and they completed the piece by working together to create variations, groupings and spatial patterns. Tracie Jensen assisted as rehearsal director. The Apprentice Company members named the piece "Tyndall Effect" (after physicist John Tyndall) which is defined as "the visible path of light produced by the scattering action of particles in a colloidal solution on a beam of light passed through it."
City in Motion School of Dance faculty members Stephanie Whittler (Ballet IV) and Lillian Francis (Ballet III & Jazz III) will also present pieces. Also featured will be dances choreographed by the students themselves.
The Children's Dance Theater provides an opportunity for students at the City in Motion School of Dance to work on pieces of artistic merit under the direction of professional choreographers. The Children's Dance Theater is made up of 20 members between the ages of 8 and 19 who pursue training in modern, ballet, jazz and improvisation.

The show is inspired by Drunk History on Comedy Central, but it happens right in front of your face. And the history we share is the personal, sometimes embarrassing history of the featured performers.
Come see stand-up comedians, actors, improvisational actors, and other people who really know how to tell a story.
All on one stage.Just $10, or $5 with a student ID.
Adult Fare – 17+ to enter, 21 to drink. As always, no drink minimums.

Kick Comedy: Cortez Carter and Patrick Moore "Inspire"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rita@kcimprov.com
Kansas City, MO, May 18, 2015 — Kick Comedy: Cortez Carter and Patrick Moore "Inspire" – May 22, 2015 – 10:00pm
A special show is happening Friday at 10 pm!
When two local favorite comedians, Cortez Carter of KC and Patrick Moore of Denver, are onstage, your job is to listen and laugh. But for members of the KC Improv Company, their job is to remember, and get inspired.
After each stand-up set, the actor/improvisers will use ideas from those sets to inspire scenes, monologues, and jokes that are held together by spit and imagination. Luckily, they are good at that.
The KC Improv Company has performed in Chicago, L.A., and New York, but they are at home at The Kick. Named best sketch/improv show by The Pitch Kansas City the last two years.
You get three great things: (1) "Whose Line" style games that come fast and furious. (2) a signature mainstage show, based on unique, original characters, and (3) special drink deals from Green Room Burgers & Beer!

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR AT CROWN CENTER
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 14, 2015
MUSICAL THEATER HERITAGE AT CROWN CENTER PRESENTS...
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, the classic rock opera from 1970 will be presented by Musical Theater Heritage June 4th—21st at its 243 seat theater at the Crown
Center Shops.
Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR follows the last seven days in life of Jesus of Nazareth. The show is loosely based on
accounts in the Gospels beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion.
The show offers a free interpretation of Christ's psychology as he interacts with the major historical characters, especially Judas, who is depicted as a
tragic figure. Contemporary attitudes and sensibilities, as well as slang, pervade the lyrics. Also, allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the
depiction of political events during Christ's last days.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, features a score with songs written in several different styles, including "What's The Buzz", "Everything is All Right", "King
Herod's Song" and –of course– the big pop hit from the show: "I Don't Know How to Love Him".
MTH will use an entirely local, professional cast for its 15 performances of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at MUSICAL THEATER HERITAGE at CROWN CENTER.
Performances are Thursdays thru Sundays, June 4th though 21st. 7 PM Thursdays, 8 PM Fridays, 2 PM & 8 PM on Saturdays, and Sundays at 2 PM, at MUSICAL
THEATER HERITAGE on the third floor of the Crown Center Shops.
Ticket prices begin at just $10 For tickets call the Box Office at (816) 221-6987 or visit Musical Theater Heritage online at www.mthkc.com. For

Olathe Civic Theatre Association Chosen for Kansas City Area Premiere of The Summerland Project
OLATHE, KAN., April 27, 2015:
Olathe Civic Theatre Association (OCTA)
completes its 40th Anniversary Season with the
Kansas City area premiere of The Summerland
Project by Iowa playwright Rob Merritt. The
show is directed by Patrick Poe and runs June
5-21.
"What makes us human?" Driven by this
fundamental question, The Summerland Project is
the story of Amelia and Carter Summerland, a
young couple in love. When Amelia suffers an
aneurysm that leaves her unresponsive and
slowly dying, police officer Carter searches
for a way to revive her. He's approached by
Wesley Enterprises about allowing Amelia to be
the test subject for an experimental program
that will place her mind in a new, artificial
body, and out of desperation, he agrees. The
play explores the question of whether the
result is really Amelia Summerland, or is it
something else entirely?
Playwright Rob Merritt says he always wanted to
find a way to address this theme, but wasn't
sure how. "It's predicted that if computers
keep advancing at the current rate, we will
have a computer that's big enough and fast
enough to simulate every neuron in the human
brain and run a fully functional human brain --
that we will see this happen not only in our
lifetimes, but possibly, in the next few
decades," Merritt said. "If that's true, and we
do that, what would that mean? If you copied a
brain that way, would it be human? If it can
think and remember exactly like the original
one did, then why wouldn't it be alive? And if
it isn't, then what is it that makes us human?
"I felt like once I thought about that, not
only did I have a way to tell my story -- the
one I wanted to tell for a long time -- I knew
that it was an opportunity to explore much
bigger themes," Merritt said.
OCTA will be the second theatre to produce the
show. The cast includes: Artem Bagdasaryan
(Carter Summerland); Sommer Brechiesen (Amelia
Summerland); Anita Meehan (Dr. Ellen Beckett );
Derrick Freeman (Max Parker) Ted Collins (Paul
Wesley); David Innis (Senator Thaddeus
Williams); Laura Burt (Adah Allen). The
production staff is: Director, Patrick Poe;
Stage Manager, Rebekah Grieb; Assistant Stage
Manager and Costume Designer, Jo Bledsoe; Set
Designer, Aaron Roose; Lighting Designer, J.
Patrick Inlow; and Properties Designer, Vicky
DeLaughder.
To learn more about the creation and themes of
The Summerland Project, take a look at Rob
Merritt's production video on YouTube.
The show runs for three weekends on June 5, 6,
7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21 with Friday and
Saturday night performances at 8 p.m. and
Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
There will be talk-back sessions with
playwright Rob Merritt following the June 5 and
June 12 performances. Tickets and more
information are available at olathetheatre.org
or reservations may be made by calling the
theatre hotline at 913-782-2990.

Stars of TV and Comedy on Right Between the Ears
KANSAS CITY, MO – The award-winning comedy show
Right Between the Ears will uncork another
night of "audiofoolery" in a live performance
at the 2015 HEAR Now Festival – Friday, June 12
at 8:00pm at the Heartland Forum Theatre
(formerly the American Heartland Theatre) in
Crown Center, Kansas City.
Special guests for this performance are David
Ossman, a founding member of the legendary
comedy troupe the Firesign Theatre; and Barbara
Rosenblat, the "Meryl Streep of audiobooks" and
one of the stars of TV's Orange Is the New
Black.
The HEAR Now Festival is the audio equivalent
of a film festival for contemporary
storytelling in all its forms: classic radio
theatre, audiobooks, experimental narrative and
more. The four-day festival, June 11-14, will
offer numerous live and recorded performances
at venues throughout Kansas City.
Poet, comedian, voice artist, producer,
anthologist, teacher - David Ossman has worn a
dizzying number of hats in his nearly forty
years of work in the audio medium. A founding
member of the comedy troupe the Firesign
Theatre, he's co-created over 20 albums. David
has produced programs for National Public
Radio, American Public Media, WETA in
Washington, D.C., WGBH in Boston, MA and
Pacifica. His voice credits stretch from the
1960s right up through Pixar's A Bug's Life and
the animated series The Tick.
With over 400 audiobook titles to her credit,
Barbara Rosenblat has been named one of
Audiofile Magazine's "Golden Voices". She's
appeared in London's West End theatre, worked
for the BBC, British film and television and
performed on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning
musical The Secret Garden and the critically
acclaimed revival of Eric Bogosian's Talk Radio
starring Liev Schrieber. On TV, Barbara
portrays Miss Rosa on the Netflix series Orange
Is the New Black and has appeared on Veep, Law
and Order SVU, Tales of the Unexpected and The
Guiding Light.
Tickets for this special live performance of
Right Between the Ears are $15.00 and are on
sale now at www.rightbetweentheears.com.
Right Between the Ears is a four-time winner of
the Gold Medal as Best Comedy Show at the New
York Festivals, and is broadcast every week on
Kansas Public Radio stations (91.5, Lawrence;
89.7, Emporia; 91.3, Junction City; 99.5
Manhattan; and 90.3 Chanute). The show has
also been heard on National Public Radio,
