WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:
THE THREE PILLARS -- EXPRESSIVE ZONES OF THE BODY: Your body is dynamically creative, and designed to express completely your Mental, Emotional and Vital powers. Here, we learn how they are very specifically expressed throughout the various parts of the body. This is a class filled with "A-Ha!" moments as students recognize how accurate and applicable these forgotten truths are. Learn how changing the height of a gesture by a few inches, or changing which finger is used to initiate a touch can powerfully alter the meaning of that gesture, and the innate symbolism of different parts of the arm. Learn how to broaden your own movement patterns and vocabulary, and unleash your limitless powers of self-expression as an artist.
BODY LANGUAGE & PERFORMANCE: This seminar introduces students to some of the fundamental elements of body language, in the Three Pillars Delsarte approach. This is applicable not only to performance, but to all the arts, business, communications, psychology, or any others who would benefit from more knowledge of the self. We look at the meaning within common movement patterns of forward and back, side to side, diagonals, curves, and some simple expressions of the angles of head movement. If you are a performer, dancer or troupe member, these will change your awareness of blocking and choreography forever. (NOTE: It is required that you take the THREE PILLARS class before taking this one, so that your basic/fundamentals of Delsarte are covered.)
PERFORMING WITH PROPS: In this class we will explore how your body and the space around your body contain meaning. This will allow us to see how both the way we hold props, and where we move them, give meaning to the prop, or communicate relationship to our audience. These things will hold true whether your dance prop is a cane, a candle, a sword, a veil, or any other prop. And for the Burlesque artist, your fans, hats, and comical props, and even removed garments can become very powerful tools for creativity and playful expression. (NOTE: It is required that you take the THREE PILLARS class before taking this one, so that your basic/fundamentals of Delsarte are covered.)
YOGA FOR EVERY BODY: Would you like to try yoga, but you've been concerned that it doesn't work for your body type/age/flexibility level? Are you a current practitioner who finds certain positions difficult no matter how long you've practiced? Are you a yoga instructor who trains practitioners from all walks of life (or would you like to)? Then this is the class for you! Joe has been teaching private yoga for 15 years in NYC, specializing in diverse body types, ages and health needs. He currently has students ranging from age 13-89, and has worked with clients who have Parkinson's, osteoporosis, injury recoveries etc. Come see how this amazing practice can help your stress levels, your performance anxiety, and your overall health & well-being. This is not a 'flow' class -- this class will concentrate on doing the moves as needed by *your* body, not pushing thru all the moves with no attention paid to the individual.
FINDING (& KEEPING!) YOUR BALANCE: Balance is a key element in what we do as performers. Belly dancers go from rellevez to deep knee bends in just a few measures. Burlesque artists must personify grace while in heels & throwing their weight outside their center of gravity to highlight one body part to the next. All genres of performance need to keep an ease & steadiness, regardless of tempo or stage size. In this class, discover how to find where your center of gravity is, and how to maintain your body in balance regardless of where your weight shifts to. What's more, learn to do these things without causing stress to your knees, back, or other joints - for if there is stress, then you are not in balance or body alignment. (NOTE: It is required that you take the THREE PILLARS class before taking this one, so that your basic/fundamentals of Delsarte are covered.)
YOU'VE GOT THE WHOLE WORLD IN YOUR HANDS: The arms and hands of a dancer, of a performer... Your arms and hands are a universe of every emotion and human feeling. You will learn the symbolism of each and every part of them, many of their most fundamental expressive movements, and how to use them as a master artist to construct your choreographies. You will also learn an essential arm warm-up that unlocks their freedom and eliminates stiffness, while strengthening them technically. This class is excellent for both dancers and burlesque artists, as well as cabaret singers, who want to take their performances to the next level, with the simplicity of a well-placed hand movement. (NOTE: It is required that you take the THREE PILLARS class before taking this one, so that your basic/fundamentals of Delsarte are covered.)
DYNAMIC POSES FOR THE CAMERA: Whether is be striking that perfect pause during your performance (when you KNOW a thousand camera clicks will be going off) or finding the right pose to exude your character in a still-photo studio session, knowing how to pose for the camera (or your audience) is a huge part of our performance lives. You want the best photos for your headshots, submissions, business cards & websites - but what do you do when you get in front of the camera? Most of us are dynamic performers, so taking still poses can put us in foreign territory. Furthermore, not all photographers know how to get the best out of YOU, so you can't rely on them to always be your guide. The Delsarte system is a fantastic guide for getting the most out of your studio time! (NOTE: It is required that you take the THREE PILLARS class before taking this one, so that your basic/fundamentals of Delsarte are covered.)

Local Comedians Give Insights and Hurl Insults at Terrible Movies Every Month
What Happened?! Continues Its 2014 Season with the Infamous Troll 2
Kansas City, MO, September 28th, 2014 — Dale Maxfield of cinemasochists.com is teaming up with Foster Child
Entertainment once again to answer What Happened?!
What Happened?! is a behind-the-scenes presentation and live screening of some of the worst films ever made.
Learn and laugh at Screenland Crown Center this fall.
Similar to Mystery Science Theater or the Benson Interruption, What Happened?! features a live screening of a

a cult following and is considered one of the most terrible movies of all time. Troll 2 centers around a
vacationing family that discovers the town of Nilbog is inhabited by goblins. Fans will enjoy the jokes from
Maxfield and his team as well as learn if there was a Troll 1, and why is the film called Troll 2 when it concerns
goblins?
Maxfield and company will roast a new movie every 3rd Friday at 8:30pm at Screenland Crown Center during its
2014 season:
October 17th: Troll 2

"This theatre is a hidden gem and the goal of this benefit is to showcase just how long we've been doing what we do," Peter Leondedis, vice president of the OCTA board, said. "We are a home for some of Kansas City's best talent to direct, create and perform and we look forward to a sustainable future where we can continue our traditions and bring new work to the stage."

OCTA produced shows at various locations throughout Olathe, including the Chester Street Shopping Center basement and Millbrooke Junior High (now the Vo-Tech school).

TOP 5 SHOWS in the U.K. (THE LIST 2013)
Could this Dangerous, Seductive Comedy-Monster Change Your Life?
After SOLD OUT runs in New York, London, Edinburgh, Chicago, as well as a plethora of 5-star reviews from around the globe, Red Bastard comes to Kansas City's Kick Comedy Theater to unleash a pompous theatrical master class in this critically-acclaimed show.
"Very, Very Funny" – NEW YORK TIMES
Experience this exquisite monstrosity as Red Bastard delicately leads you through a no-holds-barred show demanding to know nothing less than the existential query, "Who the hell do you think you are?" Lines will be crossed and laughs will be had in this interactive feast of biting wit, mischievous improvisation, and physical prowess.
"Jaw dropping symphony of gasps and giggles…I am still tingling at the memory. And I will be going back for more." THE SCOTSMAN / Kate Copstick *****
He is not man or woman; he is not human or animal. He has come to play with us, pretending that he is a teacher of the theater of life. Red Bastard spreads throughout the audience like a big red virus, daring us to impress him with beautiful movements and vocal exercises of our own. He demands that we be "bigger," that we "go beyond." He commands, "Risk, and you are rewarded." The audience finds itself changing seats, yelling, posing, singing—we are pulled into participating, and the consequences of not participating ("Eek! He might touch me!") feel delightfully dire.
"...Bizarrely hilarious...has to be seen to be believed.... he cruelly assumes we love him and want to be like him, which by the end of his set turns out to be true – a cult favorite" TIME OUT - NEW YORK
Audiences should be prepared for anything to happen in this interactive show, in which Red Bastard engages the audience in master class of raw conversation, provocations, traps, rewards, and catch 22's— encouraging risk and personal discovery.
"Utterly vital and riveting from start to end" TIME OUT- LONDON
Red Bastard is Eric Davis, a Kansas City native. In 2011, he created the role of Allen Smithee in Cirque Du Soleil's Resident Hollywood show, Iris. In 2010, Mr. Davis won the Golden Nose for Clown of the Year in New York. In addition, he was a finalist for the NY Comedy Festival's Andy Kaufman Award, and the award winning director and co-writer of The Bouffon Glass Menajoree, which was nominated for Outstanding Director, Outstanding Script, Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Production by the NY Innovative Theatre Awards. SYNOPSIS:
When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guid
ing them with a warm heart and an open mind.
CASTING INFORMATION:
MALE ROLES:
Rev. Shaw Moore: 40s – 50s, charismatic, charming, deeply religious, quick minded, a loving heart. Outwardly, strong for his congregation, inwardly, weak, as he still mourns for his dead son, and worries for his impulsive, but precious daughter.
Ren McCormack: teens – 20s, witty, full of energy, goes from being feisty and flippant to fully exploring his emotions as he journeys from boyhood to maturity of the course of events. The loss of his father proves common ground with Ariel as their relationship blossoms. The hero of the show.
Willard Hewitt: teens – 20s, not dumb, but a gentle soul with quick fists, which are his defense against a world he has trouble comprehending. Humorous, a great friend to Ren, and totally in love with Rusty, but slow to show it.
Chuck Cranston: teens – 20s, Ariel's boyfriend. Self assured, cocky, ignorant, a bully. Confident of his own importance, he realizes too late that Ariel is too good for him. A natural enemy to Ren.
Lyle & Travis: teens – 20s, Chuck's buddies. Carbon copies of Chuck. Love a good laugh, have no respect.
Coach Roger Dunbar: 40s – 60s, high school gym teacher. Fully supportive of the town's philosophy. Loves to bully his students, especially Ren.
Wes Warnicker: 40s – 60s, Ren's uncle. Trying to be his father, but not succeeding. Has little tolerance for the kids of the town.
Principal Harry Clark: 30s – 60s, fully supportive of the town's philosophy. Enforces it throughout his school. Tough and regimental.
Cowboy Bob: 30s – 60s, cameo role at Cowboy Bob's. The lead at the club. Confident, a ladies man.
Jeter, Bickle, & Garvin: teens – 20s, Ren's friends - confident, energetic, supportive, fun.
FEMALE ROLES:
Ariel Moore: teens – 20s, smart, completely aware of how to behave in front of her father and how different to behave with her friends. Dreams of getting out of the 'small town' prison she's in. Passionte, explosive and thrill-seeking.
Vi Moore: 40s – 50s, despite the loss of her son and her strained relationship with her husband, she displays unflagging good humor. Strong, resilient and proud, she is trying to do the best for daughter Ariel.
Rusty: teens – 20s, sassy and self assured, but on the quiet, deeply romantic side. The best friend a girl could have, loyal, amusing and sharp. She knows Willard and her are destined for each other.
Urleen & Wendy Jo: teens – 20s, great friends to Ariel and the girls, sassy, cheeky and desperate for fun.

Störling Dance Theater presents "Parables & Prayers" at The Polsky
Störling Dance Theater, a Kansas City
Professional Dance Company, presents "Parables
& Prayers" with new work, "For Those Who
Mourn", dedicated to the victims of the Jewish
Community Center shooting and the Jewish
Community, as well as a classic Störling piece
dedicated to the victims of ISIS.
Artistic Director and Choreographer, Mona
Störling-Enna has long been a part of bringing
dance into life since the beginnings of her
choreographic career in Finland. Her photo
album includes photos of her as a teenager with
Polish Solidarity leader, Lech Walesa after
smuggling Bibles into Poland in her costume
luggage on her way to perform for the
Communistic ruled people.
In "Parables & Prayers", Mrs. Störling-Enna
will present two works specifically dedicated
to recent struggles and tragedies: The Jewish
Community Center shooting and the slaughter of
innocents in Iraq by terrorists.
"For Those Who Mourn" shares a tender and
intimate look at the aftermath of the tragedy
in Overland Park. When Mona heard about the
Community Center shootings, it hit close to
home as the list of victims included former
Culture House student, Reat Underwood and his
grandfather. "For Those Who Mourn" is
dedicated to those who must live on after this
tragedy and those that are there to bring
comfort. The Jewish Community as a whole was
also targeted in this nightmare. "For Those
Who Mourn" is also dedicated to them with the
hopes of expressing unwavering support from the
community at large. The music of Rob Lane
provides the soundscape for the beautiful
movement and meaning of this unique dance.
"Her Last Prayer" was first premiered in 2002
and was designed after a true story of a young
teenage girl in China killed for her faith. It
is being revived this fall as we see the rise
in persecution of Christians and others not
compliant with the terrorist's ideals. The
sparse and haunting music of Estonia's, Arvo
Pärt is the perfect backdrop to this fragile
and moving dance.
Together with Associate Artistic Director,
Tobin James, Störling-Enna has crafted a fall
concert that is full of meaning and beauty, wit
and irony. Audiences should come prepared to
taken on a fast paced journey through a variety
of worlds and emotions. Other new works being
premiered at this event are Tobin James' "Don't
Say A Word" and Störling-Enna's fiery "Dirty
Laundry". James and Störling-Enna make a power
team as they fuse their two very different
styles to create a complex and sophisticated
repertoire for one of the most compelling dance
companies in Kansas City.
Störling Dance Theater hit the Kansas City
dance scene with strength in 2001 when it
presented "The Prodigal Daughter" which was
quickly chosen as one of K.C.'s Top 15 of the
year. Its production "UNDERGROUND",
choreographed by Störling-Enna and Tobin James
was chosen by critic, Paul Horsley, as one of
the Top 10 performances of the Decade and is in
its 8th year of annual presentation now held at
the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Mona Störling-Enna is founder of Störling Dance
Theater and the acclaimed Culture House Academy
of the Performing Arts.

He was a scholarship student in ballet at the Dayton Ballet and Dayton Contemporary Dance schools (becoming assistant business manager of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company for one year), and taught communication workshops for the Wright State School of Medicine for 6 years.
