All My Sons - second Weekend
River City Community Players announces the second weekend for All My Sons by Arthur Miller.
Place your reservation now before the good seats are taken.
One reviewer from last weekend said, "I'm glad I went into the theater not knowing what I was about to see. The play is about big issues: how multiple lives can change because of one decision; how ambition can cloud judgment; how personal pride, loyalty to family, and what one owes to his fellow citizens can collide; how far a person can go to deny the truth in order to maintain a sense of order in life. This play forces one to consider the values of truth, loyalty, and duty. In short, it fulfills one of art's major functions: to instruct.
"Though the play is instructive, it is not preachy; though it is a tragedy, there are moments of comedy. The story is realistic and paced in a way that one learns pieces of the story both believably and at the right time. There is no sudden revelation—the truth arrives in bits and pieces. It would be hard to imagine a more gripping or better told story than this Arthur Miller masterpiece. I'll offer no synopsis to allow those who wish to attend as I did, ready for whatever a fine cast and brilliant playwright could offer."
During World War II Joe Keller and Herbert Deever ran a machine shop that made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men.
Keller went free and made a lot of money. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father's partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power.
Directed by Denny Dey.
Featuring Richard S. Bayse, Linda Finch, Tracy Conrad, Kevin H Albee, Derrick Freeman, Jill Seib-Schaub, Nino Casisi, Justin Spear, and Shannon Walsh.
Performance dates are Nov. 1, 2, 8 & 9 at 8 p.m.; and a Nov. 3 matinee at 2 p.m.
Adults $10; 12 & under $5; 62+ & groups 10+ $8 . Leavenworth Performing Arts Center, 500 Delaware St, (913) 651-0027, www.rccplv.com

Emporia State Theatre Presents: reasons to be pretty by Neil LaBute
Emporia State University Theatre presents
reasons to be pretty by Neil LaBute
The second show of our season, Neil LaBute's reasons to be
pretty, is a love story about the impossibility of love that targets
America's obsession with physical beauty. LaBute introduces us
to Greg (Colter G. Lemmon, Sophomore, Crawford, NE) and Steph
(Veniese Razo, Freshman, Topeka), a flawed but likable twenty-
something couple. When Greg is asked to comment on Steph's
"looks," chaos ensues, throwing his tight-knit group of friends
into a whirlwind of emotion. When Greg's best friend Kent (Elliott
Brest, Junior, Tomganoxie), and Kent's wife Carly (Dallas Shafer,
Freshman, Emporia) enter the picture, the stakes heighten. As
Greg and Steph's relationship falls apart, their friends are put
smack in the middle of conflict. The play explores questions of
fidelity, power, and lust, but more importantly: What is beauty
worth?
A romantic and adult play, reasons to be pretty explores the
hopelessness of romance in the 21st century. It earned its
author and original cast numerous awards including a Tony
Award nomination for Best Play in 2008. A sequel to the play,
Reasons to Be Happy, enjoyed a celebrated off-Broadway run last
spring starring Jenna Fisher (The Office). Under the direction of
senior Mike Koetkemeyer (Salina), our winter production has
been entered as a participating entry into the Kennedy Center
American College Theatre Festival. This show highlights many of
our senior talents including Lexey Jost (Set Design, Hutchinson),
Jeannie Harper (Costume Design, Cherryvale), John Alfrey (Sound
Design,Topeka), and Samaria L.A. Fleig (Stage Manager, Norman,
OK). Faculty member, Nancy Pontius, will be incharge of lighting
design. reasons to be pretty will run Novemeber 19th -23rd at

THE STORYTELLER | Female, 35-55, Speaking Role. A milquetoast, oppressively good-natured, history-loving narrator that has not had much excitement in her life. Very strong comedic actor.
DANCERS | 3-4 strong dancers. Andrew Jackson's backup girls. Will also be in the ensemble.

SYNOPSIS:
SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the Oscar® winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to dazzling new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek. Full of all-new songs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery, SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!
CASTING INFORMATION:
Shrek
Voice Type: Tenor
An erasable ogre who lives in self-imposed exile in a swamp, but yearns (beneath the surface) for friendship and acceptance. He is outwardly bitter and sarcastic, but his true nature is loving and loyal.
Princess Fiona
Voice Type: Lyric Soprano
Severely (emotionally) damaged by her exile to a tower for 23+ years of her life, Fiona believes that she will be saved by a storybook prince. She is simultaneously feisty, rude and vulnerable in her loneliness, but she is also blindly optimistic. The mental strain of captivity is beginning to show.
Teen Fiona
Voice Type: Mezzo Soprano
A lonely, dreamy tween – a bit more cynical than her younger version, who waits in a tower for her prince. She is getting tired of the wait, but is convinced he will appear to save her.
Young Fiona
Voice Type: Soprano
She is energetic, courageous, hopeful, slightly scared, but she clings to the belief that the prince from her storybook will rescue her.
Donkey
Voice Type: Baritone
Sassy and confident, he yearns to belong somewhere. Feels he can be the best companion EVER to anyone who might accept him. He is energetic and overenthusiastic to the point of irritation.
Lord Farquaad
The dwarfish dictator of tiny storybook DuLoc, Farquaad harbors deep resentment for his father who abandoned him. Behind his princely charm, he is pompous, self-centered and cruel. He has a smooth and charming speaking voice and tends to shriek when he is angry.
Dragon
A lonely and soulful female chained within Fiona's tower. She falls head-over-heels for Donkey.
Pinocchio
He is the sassy wooden puppet who yearns to become a real boy. Pinocchio badly wants to fit in but needs to learn to accept his "wooden-ness" first.

By Mona Storling-Enna
Directed by Mona Storling-Enna and Tobin James
Oct 18-19: 8 pm, Fri-Sat
The Prodigal Daughter returns to the stage at YARDLEY HALL! When it first premiered in 2003, it was voted TOP 15 PERFORMANCES OF THE YEAR by the KC Star.
K.C. Star dance critic, Paul Horsley, at the time of the premiere of THE PRODIGAL DAUGHTER wrote: "so ingeniously executed ... Storling-Enna's choreographic invention seemed to have no limits..."
Don't miss your chance to see this landmark production. Based on the Biblical parable of the Prodigal, THE PRODIGAL DAUGHTER is a contemporary look at this timeless story with a female in the lead role. This all too human story reveals the faithfulness of God even when His children are faithless.

Right Between the Ears Season Opener Oct. 26
The U.S. government shutdown is fodder for satire
on the next live performance of the award-winning
comedy show Right Between the Ears – Saturday,
October 26 at 8:00pm at Liberty Hall in Lawrence,
KS.
Besides the stalemate in Washington, the RBTE crew
is cooking up spoofs of TV's American Ninja
Warriors and pop star Miley Cyrus, along with the
overheated medical drama of Incompetents Hospital
and outer space adventure in a new episode of
Space: 1956. Also, Jesus Christ turns sitcom star
and entrepreneurs hawk ill-advised inventions,
like do-it-yourself lasik surgery.
The 2013-14 season opener also features
appearances by alumni from the summer radio
theatre camps conducted every year by Right
Between the Ears. Christopher Justice and Norah
Wilson were selected from this year's camps. Both
are psyched to make their broadcast comedy debuts.
In addition to the annual theatre camps for kids,
Right Between the Ears also performed over the

on the next live performance of the award-winning
comedy show Right Between the Ears – Saturday,
October 26 at 8:00pm at Liberty Hall in Lawrence,
KS.
Besides the stalemate in Washington, the RBTE crew
is cooking up spoofs of TV's American Ninja
Warriors and pop star Miley Cyrus, along with the
overheated medical drama of Incompetents Hospital
and outer space adventure in a new episode of
Space: 1956. Also, Jesus Christ turns sitcom star
and entrepreneurs hawk ill-advised inventions,
like do-it-yourself lasik surgery.
The 2013-14 season opener also features
appearances by alumni from the summer radio
theatre camps conducted every year by Right
Between the Ears. Christopher Justice and Norah
Wilson were selected from this year's camps. Both
are psyched to make their broadcast comedy debuts.
In addition to the annual theatre camps for kids,
Right Between the Ears also performed over the
summer at the 2013 HearNOW Festival, where the
show was named the Fan Favorite, and presented
five shows at the KC Fringe Festival, where RBTE

SYNOPSIS:
A church Christmas program spins hilariously out
of control in this Southern farce about squabbling
sisters, family secrets, a surly Santa, a vengeful
sheep and a reluctant Elvis impersonator. It's
Christmas-time in the small town of Fayro, Texas,
and the Futrelle Sisters—Frankie, Twink and Honey
Raye—are not exactly in a festive mood. A cranky
Frankie is weeks overdue with her second set of
twins. Twink, recently jilted and bitter about it,
is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the
town. And hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye is
desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the
Lamb's Christmas Program from spiraling into
chaos. But things are not looking too promising:
Miss Geneva, the ousted director of the previous
twenty-seven productions, is ruthless in her
attempts to take over the show. The celebrity
guest Santa Claus—played by Frankie's long-
suffering husband, Dub—is passing a kidney stone.
One of the shepherds refuses to watch over his
flock by night without pulling his little red
wagon behind him. And the entire cast is dropping
like flies due to food poisoning from the Band
Boosters' Pancake Supper. And when Frankie lets
slip a family secret that has been carefully
guarded for decades, all hope for a successful
Christmas program seems lost, even with an Elvis
impersonator at the manger. But in true Futrelle
fashion, the feuding sisters find a way to pull
together in order to present a Christmas program
the citizens of Fayro will never forget. Their
hilarious holiday journey through a misadventure-
filled Christmas Eve is guaranteed to bring joy to
your world!
CAST BREAKDOWN:
Geneva Musgrave, 50-60's crusty owner of the town
flower shop and the local town gossip. If you want
something to be spread easy as melted butter, talk
to Geneva.

sister, sexy, vivacious go- getter, who is
"enjoying" the wonderful world of menopause.
Gina Jo (G.J.) Dubberly, Frankie and Dub's
daughter, 20's guileless and enthusiastic. She is
your typical Daisy Duke sort of girl. Loves the
life she currently lives and loves her
family more than life itself.

the ladies just as much as he loves his donuts and
coffee.
Twink Futrelle, middle Futrelle sister, 40's – the
"black sheep". She is loud and so is her style -
very sexy and not scared to show off a little skin
to get what she needs. She is the toughest of
the sisters.
Dub Dubberly, Frankie's husband, 40's your typical
trailer park husband. Life revolves around NASCAR,
hunting, and drinking beer. He loves his
wife more than he may show.

"Based on Louisa May Alcott's own family experiences (and novel), LITTLE WOMEN-THE MUSICAL, follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America. The beloved story of the March sisters is timeless and deals with issues as relevant today as when they were written. Now, this wonderful narrative has been brought to life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious music, dancing and heart.

The New Century Follies production company and Byrd Productions is thrilled to present two workshops by dynamic theatrical performer Paco Fish!
The New Century Follies production company and Byrd Productions
is thrilled to present two workshops by dynamic theatrical performer Paco Fish!
"Power in Silence"
60 minutes
$20
1 pm
There is power in silence and strength in stillness. In this class, we will explore stillness and movement as contrasting tools for communication through games and exercises in mime. We will focus on clarity of movement, double takes, and comedic beats. Students should wear comfortable clothes in which they can move freely.
"Creating Character and Embodying Emotion"
60 minutes
$20
2:15pm
Using guided visualizations and physical explorations, we will discover many different personalities hidden within our bodies and the physical ways they express themselves. We will learn how to create clear characters and express distinct emotions with our whole bodies. Students should wear comfortable clothes in which they can move freely.
Paco Fish thrives on duality. He is a dynamic performer of spoken and physical comedy, burlesque, boylesque, stilt walking, clown, mime, and a variety of other media. Most of Paco's characters exist in multiple forms and his acts are visual representations of the transitions between these coexisting identities. Whether playing a freshwater turtle in forbidden saltwater love, a tramp with a deal with the devil, or the whole history of modern France, Paco dismantles assumptions and defies convention with humor and passion. He is the founder of Baltimore's Sticky Buns Burlesque and
currently holds the titles, "King of Southern Exposure," "King of Carolina Sweet Tease," and "Most Humorous" from both the Great Burlesque Exposition and The Carolina Burlesque Festival.
"The Burlesque Vanguard Tour" is a year-long international burlesque tour organized by boylesquer,Paco Fish. The 52-week tour will be spent living in a minivan, performing, and teaching burlesque in all 48 contiguous US states, the District of Columbia, and 3 Canadian provinces. Throughout the journey,
Paco will be joining local performers (including The New Century Follies and Byrd Productions on October 12th at Just Off Broadway Theater) for a different live entertainment experience each night, and documenting his adventures at www.burlesquevanguard.com
