HELLO, DOLLY! PRESS RELEASE

MUSICAL THEATER HERITAGE PRESENTS
"HELLO, DOLLY" Starring Deb Bluford & Gary Neal
Johnson
Off Center Theatre at Crown Center
August 8-25

Musical Theater Heritage will continue its 11th
season with the Jerry Herman chestnut, HELLO,
DOLLY! Winner of 10 Tony Awards in 1964, including
"Best Musical". Jerry Herman's fast-paced, feel-
good musical centers around the country's most
lovable Matchmaker, Dolly Levi. Dolly is back in
New York not only to arrange, meddle and match-up
lonely hearts, but heal her own heart, as well.
She's set her sights on Yonker's richest (and
grumpiest) citizen, Horace Vandergelder. This
timeless classic includes the hit tunes "Before
the Parade Passes By", "Put on Your Sunday
Clothes", "So Long Dearie", "Hello, Dolly!", and
many more.

The original production of HELLO, DOLLY! starring
Carol Channing played for 2,844 performances on
Broadway at the St. James Theatre, which at the
time, was the longest running Broadway musical in
history. In 1969, the movie version of the show
starring Barbara Streisand was nominated for 7
Academy Awards and won 3 including "Best Score".

MTH's production will feature 2 Kansas City
Theatrical veterans, Deb Bluford and Gary Neal
Johnson. Ms. Bluford was last seen at MTH playing
Mama Rose in GYPSY. Prior to that, she played
Benjamin Franklin in MTH's nationally acclaimed,
all female version of 1776. Mr. Johnson will be
making his MTH debut in HELLO, DOLLY! and has
turned in memorable performances on every stage in
Kansas City for decades.

MTH's Executive Director, George Harter offers,
"When you think of HELLO, DOLLY! people naturally
think: Carol Channing. But, our concert format
will breathe new life into the piece with Deb
Bluford and Gary Neal on board. We have no doubt
that our production will be the one that audiences
will definitely not want to miss."

Walter Kerr, in the New York Tribune, wrote
"HELLO, DOLLY! is a musical comedy dream."

MTH will offer their production of HELLO, DOLLY!
August 8-25, 2013 at the Off Center Theatre in
Crown Center.

Tickets are $10-$35 and available by calling the
box office at 816.842.9999 or online at
www.MTHKC.com

One reviewer wrote, "Great singers, skilled actors, and a magnificent pit band make for an excellent evening. I highly recommend attending this fine play.

A rare combination of originality and blinding talent, boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in our hearts: to be entertained. Have you ever sat in a dark theater and thought, "Dear Lord, please let it be good," this is the show for you! Disney's The Little Mermaid at Starlight

DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID MAKES A SPLASH AT
STARLIGHT THEATRE JULY 23-28
Kansas City audiences will be emerged in a magical
kingdom under the sea

Disney's The Little Mermaid will grace the
Starlight stage, July 23-28. Based on Hans
Christian Andersen's famous and timeless tale,
Disney's The Little Mermaid is a family musical
that features classic songs: "Part of Your World,"
"Kiss the Girl," and the Academy Award-winning
"Under the Sea."

Twenty-four years after the original film was
released, Disney's The Little Mermaid continues to
capture the hearts of children and parents alike.
It's the story of Ariel, an adventurous and
independent young mermaid who lives in a magical
kingdom beneath the sea, but longs to leave her
ocean home to live in the world above.

"The stage version of Disney's The Little Mermaid
promises to be even more memorable than the film
with elaborate sets and costumes, unforgettable
choreography that includes special effects,
theatrical flight technology, additional songs and
an accomplished cast," said Denton Yockey,
President and Executive Producer of Starlight
Theatre. "It's our biggest show of the year."

As usual with Starlight's kid-friendly production,
Starlight will host a huge pre-show family "Under
the Sea Festival" from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
nightly. Activities will include: entertainment,
cartoonists, a costume contest, a fishing booth,
hands-on art projects, photo opportunities,
goodies and more. Disney's The Little Mermaid is
Starlight's fourth production in its 2013 Broadway
Series and is presented by Panera Bread.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Starlight's production of Disney's The Little
Mermaid is one of the few in the U.S. this year,
Yockey said. For 2013, Disney has only granted a
handful of theaters licensing rights to produce
Disney's The Little Mermaid. Starlight Theatre is
producing it in partnership with Paper Mill
Playhouse and Pittsburgh CLO.

Starlight and its partner theatres have hired some
of the top national and international directors
and designers for this production including Glenn
Casale who previously directed Disney's The Little
Mermaid in Europe and in California. Casale also
directed the 1999 Tony® Award nominated and Emmy
winning Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby which
played at Starlight Theatre in 2012.

Choreography is by John MacInnis, who recently
choreographed the European productions of Disney's
The Little Mermaid. In 2011, MacInnis served as
associate choreographer of the Tony Award–winning
musical The Book of Mormon and directed and
choreographed the Olympic Medals Ceremonies at the
2002 and 2012 Winter Olympic Games. The flight
choreographer is Paul Rubin, "The Fly Guy," who
has choreographed some of the most memorable
flying sequences from the Tony® Award winning
Wicked as well as Peter Pan national tour.

The musical score is composed by eight-time
Academy Award winner Alan Menken and the late
Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken and
lyricist Glenn Slater. The book for the musical is
by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning
playwright Doug Wright.

The cast includes Jessica Grové (Ariel), Nick
Adams (Prince Eric), Matt Allen (Scuttle), Sean
Patrick Doyle (Jetsam), Scott Leiendecker
(Flotsam), Liz McCartney (Ursula), Alan Mingo, Jr.
(Sebastian), Christian Probst (Flounder), Timothy
Shew (Chef Louis), Edward Watts (King Triton), Ron
Wisniski (Grimsby), Kristine Bennett, Ward
Billeisen, Lauryn Ciardullo, Thay Floyd, KC
Fredericks, Rod Harrelson, Lisa Karlin (a native
Kansas Citian), Nicole Javanna Johnson, Morgan
Kirner, Erica Mansfield, Dennis O'Bannion, Robbie
Roby, James Shackelford, Katie Ulrich and Jessica
Wockenfuss.

Self-Producers Boot Camp

Every show seeks an audience. Sometimes you have to
make that happen yourself. Being a self-producer is
the way many artists bring their work to the public,
including entering national festivals. The "Self
Producers Boot Camp" shows you how. 3 NYC theater
pros provide an interactive workshop on how to
produce, promote, and market for those times when
you want to be the one who takes your show from the
page to the stage.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: July 15th, 2013

INTERVIEWS: Will be scheduled from July 29 - August 9, 2013, by appointment only.

Directors will be announced following the August 10th board meeting.

The shows:

BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON February 28 - March 16
Music & Lyrics by Michael Friedman RATED R
Book by Alex Timbers
This musical tells the story of America's first political maverick. A.J. kicked British butt, shafted the Indians and smacked down the Spaniards all in the name of these United States--who cares if he didn't have permission? An exhilarating and white-knuckled look at one of our nation's founding rock stars, the show recreates and reinvents the life of "Old Hickory," from his humble beginnings on the Tennessee frontier to his days as Commander-in-Chief.

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY May 30 - June 15
By Tracy Letts RATED R
A vanished father. A pill-popping mother. Three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you've got a major new play that unflinchinglyâ€"and uproariouslyâ€"exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family.

NOISES OFF July 18 - August 3
By Michael Frayn RATED PG-13
Called the funniest farce ever written, this play presents a manic menagerie of characters as a cast of itinerant actors rehearse a flop play called Nothing's On. Doors slamming, onstage and backstage intrigue, and errant sardines all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.

HAIR September 19 - October 5
Music by Galt MacDermot RATED R
Lyrics & Book by Gerome Ragni & James Rado
This classic rock musical tells the story of Vietnam-era youths awkwardly but exuberantly creating their own rite of passage through the confusion around them. With themes of alienation and civil disobedience Hair illustrates the '60s generation's search for meaning through various "be-ins," "love-ins" and protests. Phenomenal musical numbers include Aquarius, Good Morning Starshine, Hair, I Got Life, Let The Sunshine In and Easy To Be Hard.

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES November 7 - 23
Music & Lyrics by Jerry Herman RATED PG
Book by Harvey Fierstein
After twenty years of un-wedded bliss Georges and Albin, two men partnered for better-or-worse get a bit of both when Georges' son (fathered during a one-night fling) announces his impending marriage to the daughter of a bigoted, right-wing politician. Further complicating the situation is the 'family business': Albin and Georges run a transvestite nightclub in St. Tropez, where Albin is the "star" performer 'Zaza'. When Anne's parents want to come and meet Jean-Michel's mother and father, chaos ensues.

KC Stage - Big Changes For KC Stage!

Big changes are in store for KC Stage in the next few months!

KC Stage will become an online-only source of performing arts
information – and it will be 100% FREE! All performance and
audition listings, as well the articles you love to read, will be
available at no charge.

Unfortunately, this also means we will no longer be able to offer a
printed magazine as of August, 2013. As the costs of printing and
mailing continue to rise, providing our readers with a quality
product in a timely manner has become increasingly difficult. We
don't want to have to continue to raise the price of a subscription
just to make it possible to afford the printing and mailing. So,
we've made a decision – one that we feel will allow us to give you
the best version of KC Stage possible.

What does this mean for our loyal subscribers who have paid
subscriptions?

If you currently have a paid subscription, we will refund the pro-
rated amount to you following the mailing of the final issue in
August.

Since 1998, KC Stage has been a source of performing arts
information for the greater Kansas City area. Our volunteer staff
has worked hard to keep you aware of performances, auditions, and
pertinent arts news. If you have any questions, please don't
hesitate to direct them to info@kcstage.com, or visit our FAQ
(http://www.kcstage.com/OnlineOnlyFAQ.pdf) regarding this
process.

Additionally, we are looking for folks who are interested in
volunteering their time and love of the arts to KC Stage. If you are
interested in learning more about being part of the KC Stage team,
please contact us at info@kcstage.com.

Bernice/Butterfly -- 2013 KC Fringe Festival

Phoenix KC Theatre

Phoenix KC Theatre will present Bernice/Butterfly by Nagle Jackson with 5 performances during the 2013 KC Fringe Festival, July 19 - 27.

The show features cast members Marilyn Lynch, Robert Gibby Brand and Donovan Kidd and is directed by Warren Deckert.

Part 1 - Bernice At Bay -- Bernice, a waitress at the O-Kay Diner in a small, dying Kansas town, holds court during the breakfast shift - trading gossip and quips with the regulars. The comic facade fractures as past remembrances and a surprise visitor intrude on the morning.

Part 2 - The Butterfly Effect -- "...a cacophony of butterfly wings fanning us down to dismay..." Randall delivers an annual lecture to the American Philosophical Society. The jargon of his speech touches on such topics as chaos theory and "The Nature of Failure" as he attempts to make some sense out of the series of random small events that have created chaos in his otherwise predictable life.

Bernice At Bay and The Butterfly Effect are companion pieces, related in style and theme. Both shows are at the same venue and are always scheduled consecutively. Audience members are encouraged to see both shows back-to-back on the same evening.

Performance Dates/Times:
Sunday, July 21 -- Bernice At Bay - 1:30 pm/The Butterfly Effect - 3:00 pm
Monday, July 22 -- Bernice At Bay - 6:00 pm/The Butterfly Effect - 7:30 pm
Wednesday, July 24 -- Bernice At Bay - 7:30 pm/The Butterfly Effect - 9:00 pm
Friday, July 26 -- Bernice At Bay - 7:30 pm/The Butterfly Effect - 9:00 pm
Saturday, July 27 -- Bernice At Bay - 9:00 pm/The Butterfly Effect - 10:30 pm
at City Stage in Union Station - 30 West Pershing Road

Tickets are $10.00 to Part 1 - Bernice At Bay and $5.00 to Part 2 - The Butterfly Effect, plus a one-time purchase of a $5.00 2013 Fringe Festival button which is required for access to any KC Fringe Festival event. Tickets and buttons will be on sale through the Fringe Festival website: www.kcfringe.org or at the venue prior to the performances.
