The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - Second Weekend
The River City Community Players announces its second weekend for, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin.
This weekends performances are Mar 1, 2, at 8 p.m., and a Mar 3 2 p.m., matinee with additional performances Mar 8 and 9 at 8 p.m., at the Leavenworth Performing Arts Center, 500 Delaware, Leavenworth, KS.
One reviewer wrote, "The River City Community Players have staged a brilliant version of 'Putnam County.' I've seen a lot of community theater along the way, and it's rare when a cast is so uniformly strong."
Another wrote, "The River City Community Players have staged a brilliant version of "Putnam County." I've seen a lot of community theater along the way, and it's rare when a cast is so uniformly strong."
Call, 913-651-0027, now for reservations before they are gone.
Directed by MB Hurst.
Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. The show is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime and creates the unlikeliest of heroes for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

Ticket prices are: Adults $10; 12 & under $5; 62+ & groups 10+ $8.

I-Mime, There's An App For That!
The ultimate low-tech adventure in a high-tech world
Inspired by irretrievable hours sucked into Angry Birds, YouTube and deciphering privacy settings. Each "app" opens a window into the bizarre, addictive and sometimes surprisingly human things we follow, share, and become with our gadgets.
Written and performed by Kirsten Stephens. Kirsten combines her years of training with world famous mime Marcel Marceau with years of equally lucrative "research" in the tech world to create a show of painfully funny visual puns that any on-line game player can relate to. What else should she have done with all of that training?!?
If you've seen previous incarnations of this show - you're in for a treat! She keeps some of her favorites and adds some new hilarious numbers - due to new "research".
Alas, there is only one performance of this show:
8:00, Friday March 22nd at The Arts Asylum
Tickets are only $10 for adults,
$8 for students/seniors/military/KCFringe button holders
$5 for kids 16 and younger

Kirsten is a graduate of L'Ecole International de Mimordrame de Marcel Marceau in Paris,France. She first discovered the magic of inclinations and rotations and triple designs at a church
in Oklahoma City, finally deciding to head for Paris to audition for the school. She spent the next three years studying with Marceau, as well as the world's foremost practitioners of Corporeal
Mime (which is to mime what ballet is to dance), rounded out with classes in dance, fencing and acrobatics. Following graduation, Kirsten spent another year and a half touring Europe with
some of her classmates as Mime de Rien in an original production titled Le Pese, le Flouze, le Blé. Returning to the US, she moved to Minneapolis where she met Dean Hatton at the MargolisBrown physical theater company. Discovering a common love of mime-based

We will explore the importance of weight, form, rhythm and breath in creating character, illusion, and story in search of a more complete actor.

Peter Cottontail IIII at Kauffman Center
CELEBRATE EASTER WITH PETER COTTONTAIL III
Starlight Children's Theatre presents musical for young audiences
It's time to start hopping down the bunny trail when Starlight Children's Theatre presents the regional premiere of Peter Cottontail III, March 29-31 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway.
The musical tells the story of Peter Cottontail III who learns the day before Easter that his Grandfather is retiring and Peter is the new Easter Bunny! The young bunny manages to get into some trouble in a nearby cabbage patch, but with the help of a new friend, Peter realizes that he is mature enough to be the Easter Bunny after all. Audiences will be humming along to catchy songs like "Here Comes Peter Cottontail," "To be the Easter Bunny," and "The Secret of Springtime."
"This production really has the look and feel of the old Rankin and Bass television specials including the clearly defined villains. Peter Cottontail, of course, ends up saving the day," said Director Jerry Jay Cranford. "Plus it has upbeat musical numbers, dancing and singing.
"It's a perfect treat for Easter weekend and certainly family friendly. Even the youngest children will have a good time," he said.

Discovering a common love of mime-based
movement theater, the two have been working together as Kirsten and Dean since 2001.

presented under the direction of Dr. Jim Ryan beginning
Wednesday evening February 27.
Dancing at Lughnasa is the story of five unmarried sisters living
in a small village in Ireland. Set in 1936, the play is portrayed
through the memories of seven-year-old Michael (Noah Mefford,
Senior, Burlington) who is the illegitimate son of Chris (Trinity
Standridge, Senior, Olathe) and Gerry (Andrew Walker, Senior,
Wichita).
Now grown, Michael tells the story of his mother and his four
aunts: Kate (Cara Lohkamp, Senior, Wichita), Maggie (Annie
Rosenbrook, Senior, Merriam), Agnes (Erin Mullane, Junior,
Gardner), and Rose (Miranda S. Nation, Freshman, Winfield).
Michael recalls the return of his elderly uncle, Father Jack
(Brandon Jensen, Junior, Salina), from a 25-year mission trip in a
Ugandan leper colony. We meet the characters during the festival
of Lughnasa (pronounced LOO-nuh-suh), a celebration of a
pagan god of the harvest.
Widely regarded as Friel's masterpiece, this haunting play will be
presented in an atmospheric world created by scenic designer
Nancy Pontius. Ron Fowlkes (Lighting Designer) and Susan Mai
(Costume Designer) help to bring the world of the play to life.
The production staff includes Doug Dion (Technical
Director/Sound) and Amanda Dura (Costume Shop Manager).
Lexey Jost (Junior, Hutchinson) will serve as the Production Stage
Manager. Kylie Geiman (Sophomore, Louisburg) is the assistant
stage manager.
Mark Warner (Junior, Salina) serves as the Master Carpenter.
Dancing at Lughnasa will open Wednesday, February 27th, and
run through Saturday, March 2nd. All performances will be at
7:30 p.m. in Karl C. Bruder Theatre in King Hall. Tickets are
available from the ESU Box office on the main level of the
Memorial Union or by calling 620-341-6378.

Gone With the Wind was one of the most-beloved books and films of the 20th century, but how did the book become the movie? In Moonlight & Magnolias, Ron Hutchinson shows us what happens when you lock three of the most driven men in Hollywood in an office for five days. Coming in February 2013.
1939 Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind. The screenplay, you see, just doesn't work. So what's an all-powerful movie mogul to do? While fending off the film's stars, gossip columnists, and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and the three men labor to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time. Leave those winter doldrums at the door! Join OCTA for this farce that the New York Daily News termed "Frankly, my dear, this is one funny play…a rip-roaring farce…[with] witty, pointed dialogue and hilarious situations…."

Bathroom Humor
Paradise Playhouse Dinner Theatre
Bathroom Humor by Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore: Mar 22-Apr 13: 6 pm Fri-Sat; 7 pm Thr; 12 pm Sun
Van Zandt and Milmore have certainly come up with a novel setting: the play takes place in the bathroom in a home during a party, a handy place for gossip and hanky panky, where we learn of the wild and crazy things going on at the party. The authors have ingeniously contrived this play so that we feel that, if we had gone to this party we, too, might have spent most of the time hiding out in the bathroom. Directed by R. Cress Hewitt. Featuring Jill Camper, Julie Houser, Sarah Griggs Love, Ron McQuillen, Patrick Simpson, T.J. Blodgett, Mick Turpin, and Mike Turpin.
$30.00 to $32.00. Paradise Playhouse Dinner Theatre, 101 Spring St, (816) 630-3333, www.paradiseplayhouse.org (Adult Fare)

in Oklahoma City, finally deciding to head for Paris to audition for the school.
Discovering a common love of mime-based

successor. Lois is just looking for normalcy and
finds everything she needs in Dan. Man After
Superman takes the audience on the hilarious

Especially if you're trying to date Superman's ex-
girlfriend. When Dan meets and falls for Lois Lane,
who's freshly out of her last famous relationship,
he's not sure if he can measure up to his super
successor. Lois is just looking for normalcy and
finds everything she needs in Dan. Man After
Superman takes the audience on the hilarious
adventures of Dan and Lois as they fight to get past
their own baggage, a jealous ex, and some very
questionable uses of X-Ray vision to find their
happily-ever-after.
