She&Her Productions
Twelfth Night, or What You Will by William
Shakespeare: Aug 10-26: 8 pm Fri-Sat, Mon; 2 pm
Sun
August 10… She&Her Productions opens their 2012-13
Season in style with Shakespeare's Twelfth Night,
or What you Will in the newly renovated Just Off
Broadway Theatre. This, the most musical of The
Bard's plays, comes with original music, newly
composed by the play's director, Jeremy Riggs and
promises to be an interesting take on one of the
most beloved and preformed of Shakespeare's great
comedy plays.
Twelfth Night is arguably the most human of all of
the comedies written by Shakespeare.. It contains
something that is so real to the human experience
that it is impossible to walk away without
recognizing some of ourselves in the characters.
It seems to catch the elements of loss, love and
pain that make humanity the feeling creatures that
we are. The director, Jeremy Riggs, uses this
information in his approach to the play, causing a
somewhat darker feel. Under his direction he is
attempting to find the real sense of the emotion
as the play moves through its assigned scenes.
According to Riggs, by putting the focus on the
reality of the situation in which the characters
find themselves, an honesty arises that makes one
recognize and empathize with the characters in the
play.
Although a somewhat darker approach is taken,
there are still plenty of laughs in the show.
From the preening, self-loving Malvolio and the
loud, over-lubricated Sir Toby, to the fun loving
and witty Feste and the boisterous, dim-witted Sir
Andrew all weaving themselves in and out of the
story, building a web of deceit and revenge that
ends with hilarity and madness.
Riggs, in addition to directing, also lends his
expertise as a stunt and fight director to the
action of the play. Several daring duels, very
much in the spirit of Robin Hood and The Princess
Bride have been staged. The combatants, Fight
Captained by Garrett Lawson, who also plays Sir
Andrew Aguecheek, swing rapiers and fists as the
plays fights progress the narrative.
Twelfth Night, or What You Will opens August 10th
and runs weekends through August 26th. All Show
at 8:00 PM except Sunday Matinees at 2:00 PM.
All performances will be at the Just Off Broadway
Theatre, located at 31st Street and Broadway in
Kansas City, MO.
Directed by Jeremy Riggs.

David Gaines (the performer and creator of "7 (X1)Samurai" at the KC Fringe Festival) is a specialist in the field of stage movement and actor training
through movement. His workshops encompass not only basic concepts of
coordination, timing, rhythm, and grace, but also spatial awareness, mime
technique, dramatic presence, and the fundamentals of mask work.
Trained as a student at the famous Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris, he later was

MOVING PICTURE MIME SHOW, in London, England - a company which
was invited to every major theatre festival in the world, from Hong-Kong to
Edinburgh, and from New York to Vancouver.
The goals of every workshop are:
* To develop articulation, clarity, and responsiveness; the ability to behave
naturally while making imaginative choices on stage.
* To convey the concept of "allowing" rather than "forcing" actions to
take place and to show how this concept applies to acting and improvisation.
* To teach actors to make conscious use of the space around them to
inform
and motivate their actions.
Fundamentals of Movement
Neutral Mask
Animal Movement
Larval Mask
Interaction in Improvisation
Commedia Dell' Arte
Pantomime Blanche
Techniques of Clowning
Mr. Gaines offers an overview of the fundamental concepts of the Lecoq
pedagogy and an introduction to the process and technique of performing
with masks. Physical exercises are followed by work on presence, space, and
improvisation. The improvisations address the concepts of dramatic
presence, use of space, neutral acting, clarity, focus, and attention to the
"seed" event.
Students from all over the world travel to Paris to study at the Ecole Lecoq,
whose former students include Ariane Mnouchkine (Theatre du Soleil),
Steven Berkoff, Geoffrey Rush, Yasmina Reza, and the core members of
Theatre de la Jeune Lune. Now your students can benefit from the same
training. If you would like to find out why the Lecoq approach is considered
the best movement training an actor can get, you are invited to take
advantage of Mr. Gaines' current availability.

Starlight Theatre presents AIDA at the Kauffman Center
Kansas City, MO: Starlight Theatre will present Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA, winner of four Tony® Awards including Best Musical Score and Best Book, August 3-12 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway.
AIDA tells an epic story of forbidden love between an enslaved Nubian princess, Aida, and an Egyptian soldier, Radames. Elton John's instantly recognizable melodies and lyrics by the award-winning Tim Rice (Evita, Beauty and the Beast, Jesus Christ Superstar) bring exhilarating energy to the plot based on Verdi's opera of the same name. Sir John and Sir Rice also collaborated to create the Disney and Broadway smash hit, The Lion King.
"Starlight is honored to be a part of the Kauffman Center's inaugural year and to provide an opportunity for our subscribers to experience this magnificent performing arts venue," said Denton Yockey, president and executive producer of Starlight Theatre. "AIDA is the only Broadway series show Starlight is producing this summer and it seemed an appropriate fit for the Kauffman. This is actually our third production at the Kauffman Center this year, however, the first two productions were part of our Starlight Children's Theatre series which is an ongoing partnership we established with the Kauffman Center.
"We have put together an extraordinary cast for AIDA under the direction of Mark Madama. I think this production will be very memorable," Denton said. The cast is a mix of Broadway, regional and local actors. Zakiya Young, who appeared on Broadway in Stick Fly and Little Mermaid, will play AIDA, and Paul Nolan, who is coming to Kansas City straight from his role on Broadway as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, will play Radames.
In addition to Best Original Score, AIDA won the Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical (Heather Headley), Best Scenic Design (Bob Crowley, also nominated for Costume Design), and Best Lighting Design (Natasha Katz). The production also won a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. The music is eclectic with a mix of Elton John's pop style, African, Indian and Middle Eastern influences. Audiences will also hear a modern reggae number and a little Motown mixed in.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
The talented cast includes Zakiya Young (Aida), Paul Nolan (Radames), Chelsea Packard (Amneris), Justin Keyes (Mereb), John Antony (Zoser), Kip Niven (Pharaoh), and Stacey Robinson (Amonasro). Ensemble cast includes Meredith Akins, Kelly Buck, Bianca Burgess, Stephanie Cain, Amanda Galang, Alison Jantzie, Jolina Javier, Eric Sean Fogel (dance captain), Julius Chase, Richard Riaz Yoder, Leeds Hill, Antuan Raimone, Kevin Santos, and Maurice Sims. The Teen Ensemble members are Madison Calhoun, Joy Donnelly, Emmy Hadley, Madelaine Heigele, Jacob Bogart, Grayson Yockey and Dashawn Young.
The creative team for AIDA includes Mark Madama (director), Michele Lynch (choreographer), Anthony Edwards (musical director), Charlie Morrison (lighting designer), and Braxton Cornelius (sound designer).

Single Tickets for AIDA are $25 to $95 and are available online at www.kcstarlight.com, by calling 816.363.STAR (7827) or at the Starlight Box Office at 4600 Starlight Road in Swope Park, during regular Starlight Box Office hours.
The creative team for AIDA includes Mark Madama (director), Michele Lynch (choreographer), Anthony Edwards (musical director), Charlie Morrison (lighting designer), and Braxton Cornelius (sound designer).

respected improv comedy festivals in the country.
This September 7-15 at Crown Center's Off Center Theatre,
Paul F. Tompkins (Mr. Show, Best Week Ever, There Will Be
Blood) and Colin Hanks (Dexter, Orange County, Band Of
Brothers) help kick off the 12th Kansas City Improv Festival:
two weekends of performances, parties and classes featuring
the funniest acts from Kansas City and far beyond.
At KCiF 2012, everything—every character, scene and song—
is created on the spot based on the suggestions you give to
the performers. Along with Tompkins and Hanks, festival

Directed by Nino Casisi.
Music directed by Deana Wagoner.
Goodbye gray skies, hello blue! Happy days are here again with Richie, Potsie, Ralph Malph and the unforgettable "king of cool" Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli.
Based on the hit Paramount Pictures television series, Happy Days, A New Musical reintroduces one of America's best loved families, the Cunninghams -- yes, Howard, Marion and Joanie are here too -- to a whole new generation of kids and parents.
The famed drive-in malt shop and number one hangout, Arnold's, is in danger of demolition. So the gang teams up to save it with a dance contest and a TV-worthy wrestling match.
Even Pinky Tuscadero, Fonzie's childhood sweetheart, returns to help and -- lo and behold! -- they rekindle their old flame.
Happy Days, A New Musical brings back the good ol' days of 1959 Milwaukee complete with varsity sweaters, hula hoops and jukebox sock-hoppin' fun.
This perfectly family friendly musical will have you rockin' and rollin' all week long!
Performances are Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28 at 8 p.m.
Additional performances are scheduled for August 3, 4, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. and an August 5 matinee at 2 p.m.
Featuring Chris Foglio, Kyle Hyde, Rachel Szmed, Kevin Albee, Danielle Sachse, Brett larimore, David Varner, Spencer Williams, Breanna Danielle Swatzell, Jef Peckham, Traci Kohl, Joe Ruiter, Branson Bliss, Raphael Tate, Marhsall Hopkins, Joe Ruitter, Vaughn Racine, Kimberly Wood, Sadie Vetter, Kylie Visocsky, Kayla Rydalch, Thad Krasnesky, Kaitlyn Baker, Carissa Bruner, Danielle Edwards, Marshall Hopkins, Isabelle Krasnesky, Tracy McClung, Sue Peckham, Gabrielle Smith, Dianne Brown, Carol Leonard, Jake Burns, Ron Ernst, Ron Mundt, Scott Gibson, Jason Cole, Doug Bryan, and Wes Brown.

12th Night,or What You Will
She&Her Productions*

KC Baseball Great to attend "Fairball: Negro Leagues in America" performance
Kansas City legend and Five-time All-Star Frank White
To visit Theatre for Young America
Kansas City Legend Supports Negro Leagues Musical!
KANSAS CITY, MO. — The Theatre for Young America is excited to announce that Kansas City legend and five-time all-star Frank White will be in attendance for the July 17, 2012 performance of Fair Ball: Negro Leagues in America. The play is a musical about the dramatic history and exemplary courage of the men and women who played against all odds of racial segregation and "Jim Crow" laws in Negro Leagues baseball.
White will speak with the audience after the show about his own experiences with the Negro Leagues and their impact on his career in Major League baseball. White enjoyed an 18-year playing career with the Kansas City Royals from 1973-90. He appeared in five all-star games in that span and was an eight-time Golden Glove award winner, including six straight from 1977-82. White was selected as ALCS MVP in 1980 and was an integral part of the Royals' 1985 World Series Championship team. He was elected to the Royals Hall of Fame in 1995 and his National Baseball Hall of Fame status is eligible for review next year. Currently, White serves as First base coach for the Kansas City T-Bones.
Set in the locker room of an abandoned stadium, this musical production raises the ghosts of great baseball players of the Negro Leagues to play one last great contest versus the supposed supremacy of the all-white Major Leagues. An all-star dream team, managed by Rube Foster, includes Leroy "Satchel" Paige, James "Cool Papa" Bell, Wilbur "Bullet" Rogan, Josh Gibson, Jackie Robinson, and female player Toni Stone. This one-hour play is suitable for all ages, all lovers of baseball and all those who wish to celebrate this remarkable league.
Fair Ball's songwriter, Danny Cox, performs in the play. Danny began his professional music career in 1960 performing on a Hootenanny Folk Tour. In the 1970s, Danny recorded for the ABC-Dunhill, Casablanca, and the MGM labels. In 1969, he partnered a company called Good Karma Productions, which managed the acts of Brewer and Shipley, and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and his own career. He was a regular on the Allen Luden and Danny Kaye TV shows and has been the opening act for Ray Charles. For Theatre for Young America he has created original music for The Legend of John Henry, El Gato Sin Amigos, Trains Across America, and Black Cowboy in the Old West.
Also appearing in Fair Ball is Lonnie McFadden, a nationally recognized tap-dancer, singer and all around entertainer. McFadden, along with brother Ronnie, is part of the famed McFadden Brothers. The duo performs all over the world and has appeared on the same bill with entertainment giants such as The Count Basie Orchestra, Miles Davis, Winton Marsalis, and Sammy Davis, Jr.
The cast also includes local performers Damon Patterson, Evan Lovelace, Chioma Anyanwu and musicians Max Berry and Max Groove.
Single tickets may be reserved online at www.unionstation.org or by calling Union Station at 816.460.2020, or Theatre for Young America at 816.460.2083. For group reservations, call 816.460.2020 or 816.460.2083.

See Guys and Dolls - limited engagement July 28 and July 29
Christian Youth Theater Kansas City presents Guys and Dolls - July 28 and 29 only.
Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy – soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game.
Everything works out in the end, thanks to the machinations of Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling's hilarious, fast-paced book and Frank Loesser's bright, brassy, immortal score, which takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. Funny and romantic, GUYS AND DOLLS is ideal for audiences and performers of any age.
Ticket available online at CYTKC.ORG.
$10 for adults, $8 under 12 years, seniors over 65 years and groups of 10 or more.
Performances at The Bell Cultural Events Center, MidAmerica Nazarene University, 2030 E. College Way, Olathe, KS 66062.

XANADU Press Release
The Kansas City Cappies is proud to announce the performance of their annual summer musical, XANADU!
Each summer, the Kansas City Cappies offers the opportunity for all of their participants to audition for the Cappies summer musical. The Cappies cast the very best actors, singers, dancers and theatre technicians that our KC High Schools have to offer into a single production, where they can all come together to create an amazing show for the public.
The auditions are held in May, with the cast and crew, from fifteen different schools being announced at the Annual Cappies Gala. The students recieve their scripts and music at the first of June. Then the production is put together through just a two week rehearsal period in July, where the students work 8 hours a day to learn the music and choreography, build the sets, sew the costumes, hang the lights, and prepare every other aspect of the show!
Performances of XANADU will be July 20 & 21, at 7:00pm, at Belton High School's Forum Theater. Tickets are just $10 each. Reservations can be made by calling 1-877-902-2779 ext. 107.

tender, romantic, irreverent, twisted, funny, sweet, passionate
and defiant. Whatever you do- Don't skip 4PLAY. (60 min PG 14

Playwright José Faus is a founding member of the Latino Writers

Michelle T. Johnson is a storyteller. Sometimes the stories are
true, sometimes they are all made up. As a former news reporter,
former employment attorney, author of three books on
workplace diversity and as the "Diversity Diva," she tells true
stories. As a mystery writer and a playwright she just makes
stories up. Her play "No Other Way" was in the 2011 "Six By Ten
Festival" at the Barn Players Community Theatre of Mission,
Kansas and she has lots more made up stories to tell in her
future.
Ken Buch attended the 2011 Playwrights' Intensive given by the
Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre in Kansas City, MO. In 2010,
Prospero's Books of Kansas City sponsored a record-setting
120-hour poetry reading in which he was invited to read some of
his own, original works. He writes and presents lectures on
Jungian Psychology for the Kansas City Friends of Jung. He holds
a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Aerospace
Engineering.
Playwright, Jack Phillips, is known for offbeat humor and witty
song lyrics (sometimes very, very clever- Robert Trussell, Kansas
City Star). Phillips writes satirical songs in the style of Tom
Lehrer and Mark Russell. In 2010 Phillips songs were presented
in a musical revue: The US and THEM REUNION. Ron Simonian's
2011 horror musical, The Slasher Kings, opened with Phillips
playing the piano and singing his funny songs. He is the founder
of The Relatedness Project: to have people accept and appreciate
that all human beings are profoundly related. His current
strategy is called Global Transformation Through Funny Songs.
He is a member of the Kansas City Playwrights' League.
Director Vicki Vodrey's play TREMBLES was a winner of the
Gorilla Theatre Playwriting Competition. Her play HANKY PANKY
was a top-rated play at the 2010 KC Fringe Festival and placed in
the top ten in the TRU Voices Playwriting Competition. HANKY
PANKY was also a selection in last season's Midtown
International Theatre Festival, and was nominated for three MITF
Awards. Vicki is honored to be one of the five playwrights to
compete on the first round of PROJECT PLAYWRIGHT. She has
also worked as an actor and acting coach in KC, NY and LA. She
is a member of Actors' Equity Association and the Dramatists'
Guild.
The 8th Annual KC Fringe Festival is Kansas City's premiere
cultural arts festival and runs July 19 - 29th, 2012. The 11-day

performance art, visual art, spoken word, puppetry, storytelling,
film and fashion. Tickets and information online at:
