CAST:
Cathy- Helena Cosentino
David- Doug Dresslaer
Beth- Alli Tunnel
Brad- Andy Penn

Script synopsis:
Married couples David and Cathy Larson and Brad
and Beth Youngquist live with their children in
the relatively peaceful town of Pine City,
Minnesota. David and Beth, after years of
maintaining a platonic relationship, begin an
adulterous affair with disastrous consequences.
Through a series of scenes which all take place on
or around a single bed, we see the painfully
intense real time unraveling of both marriages
and, eventually, the construction of a very
fragile but authentic new beginning for everyone
concerned.

"Do not be deceived by the lyrical, gently
perfumed title of Craig Wright's play. This is a
brutally honest drama about marriage and
infidelity - one that chronicles the inevitable
big damage and ugly fallout engendered by a
ceaseless pursuit of selfishness and an
unrestrained search for personal happiness. An
emotionally and physically lacerating ordeal, it
is at once fiercely adult, shrewdly observant,
often painfully graphic and most definitely not
for the meek." - The Chicago Sun-Times

FROZEN Auditions this Weekend!

She&Her Productions*

One evening ten-year-old Rhona goes missing. Her
mother, Nancy, retreats into a state of frozen
hope, searching for answers. Agnetha, an American
academic, comes to England to research a thesis:
"Serial Killing—A Forgivable Act?" Then there's
Ralph, a pedophilic loner who's looking for some
distraction. Drawn together by horrific
circumstances, these three embark on a long,
dark journey which finally curves upward into the
light. Angry, humane and compassionate, FROZEN is
an extraordinary play that entwines the lives of a
murderer, the mother of one of his victims and his
psychologist to explore our capacity for
forgiveness, remorse and change after an act that
would seem to rule them out entirely.
Unfathomable, dark and raw, FROZEN asks some hard-
hitting questions with some dangerous answers.
From beginning to end, this is a great gift of
live theatre that carries the audience safely away
to another time and place, only to return you
wiser and unharmed. "The difference between a
crime of evil and a crime of illness is the
difference between a sin and a symptom."

Saturday, January 28 (1-4PM) and Sunday, January
29 – 12-3PM (both days)
For an audition appointment or additional
information please contact the director, Nino
Casisi at akterboi1@aol.com.

Callbacks: Sunday, January 29 – 3-5PM (By
Director Invitation Only)

Location: River's Edge Theatre, 122 W. 5th St.,
Kansas City, MO

Production Dates: March 9, 10, 12*, 16 & 17 (*
denotes Industry Night)
PREPARE: A serious or dramatic monologue no more
than three (3) minutes in length.

This show relies heavily on monologues
so your ability to perform one with realism will
be to your advantage. You may be asked to read a
cold reading of a monologue
from the show as well. Please become familiar with
the script as these are deep and complex
characters.

Current Resume and a complete list of conflicts
from February 5 – March 17. Headshots are
welcome, but not
required. Rehearsals will start on Sunday,
February 5 and will basically run Sunday-Thursday,
until closer to Opening Night.

Women's Roles:
Nancy (age range 28-40) – a down-to-earth woman
who loves to putter in her garden. Nancy's 10-
year-old daughter Rhona has
gone missing, and she tells a funny story about
how she came to send Rhona off to deliver some
garden shears. She
speaks of her certainty that somehow, someday, her
younger daughter will return. That someday never
comes. She deals
with her only living child with less conviction as
she deals with the loss of Rhona. Complex and
genuine, her actions and
feelings about losing her daughter must be real
and heartfelt. Her character goes from denial to
confused to angry to
sympathetic (and every feeling in between).

Agnetha (age range 30-40) – an American
psychiatrist of Icelandic descent. She and a
fellow researcher have studied the brains
of murderers, seen the damage in men severely
abused as children, and has come to London to
write her thesis, "Serial
Killing: A Forgivable Act?" abroad in London. It's
a title designed to startle, and it does.

Men's Roles:
Ralph (age range 30-45) – a loner and
misunderstood pedophile murderer. His sordid and
abusive past brings to light why he
does what he does and uses his past as a modeling
tool for his future. His sick fascination of
murder leads him down an
icy path to a fiery hell but he has an attribute
about him that many audiences will find sympathy.
He has some powerful
monologues that will slam the audiences back into
their seats.

Guard (any age) – no lines, but needs to be
threatening and uphold peace in Ralph's holding
cell.

All characters in FROZEN go through a physical and
emotional change including aging as the show
progresses. You must be
able to age yourself via costumes, vocals,
physical appearance, characterization and
mannerisms.

"NIGHT MUST FALL" CERTAIN TO SURPRISE

Shawnee, KS -- The Shawnee Mission Northwest Theatre Department will present the suspenseful whodunit, "Night Must Fall", February 2-4 at 7:00 p.m. with an additional matinee at 2:00 p.m. on February 4. Performances will take place in the Greg Parker Auditorium, located at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, 12701 W. 67th St. Shawnee, KS 66216.

"Night Must Fall" is as eerie as its name implies. Says the play's director, Keli Rodgers, "This is one of my favorite scary plays because it doesn't go as one suspects it will." Set in rural England in 1935, events unfold in the home of Mrs. Bramson, a spoiled, selfish, petulant old lady. Mrs. Branson and her lovely niece, Olivia, live on the outskirts of Shepperly. Also in the home are a cook, a maid, and a wall safe filled with hundreds of pounds. When Mrs. Bramson learns that her maid is "in the family way", she insists that the young woman marry the responsible boy or be fired. She calls the boy, Dan, in to give him a piece of her mind, but instead is taken in by his flattery and manipulation. She hires him away from the hotel where he worked—a hotel from which a lady has recently gone missing. Dan and Olivia fall into something of an attraction until Olivia begins to suspect Dan of the murder. The rest of the play is something of a psychological thriller.

Tickets are $8 and available at the door, on line at nwanthon@smsd.org or by calling (913) 993-7364. For more information visit www.smnwtheatre.com.

SYNOPSIS:
Follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first roller disco! (Hey, it's 1980!)  But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and includes, "Magic", "All Over The World", "Suddenly", "I'm Alive", "Evil Woman", "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "Xanadu", to name a few, and is based on the Universal Pictures' cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.   It's hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired, as one of Broadway's master storytellers, Douglas Carter Beane, weaves a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep you in stitches, while the original, legendary chart-topping tunes lift you out of your seat. You'll want to keep the music in your head, and Xanadu in your heart, forever.

SYNOPSIS:
THE GIRL WHO WAS PLUGGED IN - A homeless bag-lady whose soul is transplanted into the body of a gorgeous female android by a company which manufactures celebrities. The show is a one-act musical containing a curious mix of a science fiction framework around traditional themes - the generation gap, a love triangle and the archetypal conflict between those who have power and those who have.

STRIKING 12 - On New Year's Eve, an over-worked and under-inspired single guy who's had enough of holiday cheer makes a resolution: to stay home and go to bed early. On another New Year's Eve, a continent away—and more than a century earlier—Hans Christian Andersen's Little Match Girl tries unsuccessfully to sell her matches in the snow.  The two stories are brought together when a young woman selling special "full-spectrum holiday light bulbs" to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder shows up at the grumpy man's door. Though the man (who probably could use the bulbs) seems to enjoy the young woman's company, he sends her away. It's not until he reads "The Little Match Girl" that he is finally pulled out of his funk.  All of this unfolds through a tuneful pop/rock/jazz score that retains the vibrant style of its original performers: the celebrated band, GrooveLily.

The Crucible Press Release

Belton High School's Drama Department is proud to present The Crucible by Arthur Miller.  Winner of the Tony Award for "Best Play," The Crucible is an ageless tale of fear, greed, and power written by one of the greatest American playwrights.

When teenage girls are discovered trying to conjure spirits, the 17th century town of Salem explodes with accusations of witchcraft.  The vicious trials that follow expose a community paralyzed by terror, religious extremism, greed, and a marriage forever changed.

The Crucible challenges our notions of good and evil.  Written as a metaphor for the 1950's McCarthy trials, The Crucible was an attempt to expose the madness being conducted by the House on Un-American Activities Committee during the Second Red Scare, resulting in the demise of so many lives, careers and reputations in Hollywood.

Belton High School's The Crucible will be presented Feb. 16-18th at 7pm and Feb. 19th at 2pm in the High School Forum Theatre.  Tickets are $5 for students and $6 for adults.
Tickets may be purchased in advance through our website at www.beltondramaboosters.org. For additional ticket information call Tabatha Babcock at (816)-348-2721.

Physical Theater and Mime workshop
with Kirsten Stephens, graduate of l'Ecole Internationale de Mimodrame de Marcel Marceau in Paris, France

The moment you arrive on stage, before you even open your mouth, you have begun telling a story.  Learning to sculpt your movements allows you to communicate with your audience more directly and with greater variety and precision.  In this workshop we will delve into the techniques of both Marcel Marceau and Etienne Decroux (father of Corporeal Mime).  We will explore the importance of weight, form, rhythm and breath in creating character, illusion, and story in search of a more complete actor.

Kirsten is a graduate of L'Ecole International de Mimordrame de Marcel Marceau in Paris,
France. She first discovered the magic of inclinations and rotations and triple designs at a church
in Oklahoma City, finally deciding to head for Paris to audition for the school. She spent the next
three years studying with Marceau, as well as the world's foremost practitioners of Corporeal
Mime (which is to mime what ballet is to dance), rounded out with classes in dance, fencing and
acrobatics. Following graduation, Kirsten spent another year and a half touring Europe with
some of her classmates as Mime de Rien in an original production titled Le Pese, le Flouze, le
Blé. Returning to the US, she moved to Minneapolis where she met Dean Hatton at the
MargolisBrown physical theater company. Discovering a common love of mime-based
movement theater, the two have been working together as Kirsten and Dean since 2001.
