A Snow Bound Train . . .
Kansas City, Mo. (October 28, 2016) . . . may hide a stone-cold killer! "A Christmas Stalking", presented by The Mystery Train, is on track to add some excitement to your holiday season. This murder-mystery comedy opens on November 11 and runs through New Year's Eve with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Crowne Plaza Hotel downtown Kansas City, Mo. Petra Allen, Jessica Whitfield, Claudia Copping and Lauren Lindsey star. If playing detective (or just trying to elude one) is on your holiday wish list, come join us!
A Christmas Stalking -- Three women are trapped on a train during the blizzard of 1918, reminiscing about Christmases past, when they are faced with another disaster …. a murder! Can they find the killer before he strikes again? Before they even have a chance to fill their stockings, the game is afoot!
Murder mystery dinner theater is presented as a live interactive game, but not all dinner companions are who they seem: one of them may be an accomplice to murder—or even the murderer himself! The evening begins with role-playing at 6:30 pm, followed by a marvelous meal and a mystery-comedy show at 7 pm. Shows are held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1301 Wyandotte Street, Kansas City, Mo. Tickets are $69.00, and include dinner, show, and food service gratuity. A cash bar is available.

• Invited Callbacks will be held on Saturday, December
3rd from 1:00 -5:00pm at a location to be determined. If
you are auditioning, please make sure to clear your
schedule that day, as callbacks are critical to putting
together the strongest ensemble for this ensemble piece.

callbacks.

Set in a 1930's European perfumery, we meet shop clerks
Amalia and Georg, who more often than not, don't see
eye to eye. After both respond to a "lonely hearts
advertisement" in the newspaper, they now live for the
love letters they exchange, but the identity of their
admirers remains unknown. Discover with Amalia and
Georg the identity of their true loves and all the twists
and turns along the way!
CAST BREAKDOWN:
• ARPAD LASZLO – Delivery boy at Maraczek's
Parfumerie. His exuberance is infectious and commitment
to his job remarkable. He is ambitious and adorable. –
Age: 15-20; Vocal Range: Bb2-E4
• LADISLAV SIPOS – Not the brightest employee at
Maraczek's Parfumerie. A confidant to Georg, he is an
optimistic family man who looks like a huggable father. –

• ILONA RITTER – Employed at Maraczek's Parfumerie.
She is sexy and learned in the ways of romance, but
longing for something more from the game of love. – Age

• STEVEN KODALY – A well respected and liked
employee at Maraczek's Parfumerie. Though he is
considered dapper and occasionally charming, he is more
of a shallow womanizer. – Age: 25-40; Vocal Range: B2-

Maraczek's Parfumerie, he resembles a hopeless
romantic. Shy, intelligent, and soft spoken. – Age: 25-40;

When Brooklyn record store owner Rob finds himself
unexpectedly dumped, his life takes a music-filled turn
toward the introspective. Based on the popular novel by
Nick Hornby, High Fidelity follows Rob as he struggles to
discover how his relationship went awry, and strives to
change his life in order to win back his sweetheart Laura.
With memorable characters and a rock-and-roll score,
this homage to music geek culture explores love,
heartbreak, and the power of the perfect soundtrack.
CAST BREAKDOWN:
*The age range for each character is flexible. Some roles
may be doubled with chorus members where required.
Rob: (Tenor, 20's-30's) The show's protagonist. Rob is
insecure, selfish, and obsessive. He's also growing up.

SYNOPSIS:
Set in the 1920s, Nice Work If You Can Get It is the story
of charming and wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter, who
meets rough female bootlegger Billie Bendix the weekend
of his wedding. Jimmy, who has been married three (or is
it four?) times before, is preparing to marry Eileen
Evergreen, a self-obsessed modern dancer. Thinking
Jimmy and Eileen will be out of town, Billie and her gang
hide cases of alcohol in the basement of Jimmy's Long
Island mansion. But when Jimmy, his wife-to-be and her
prohibitionist family show up at the mansion for the
wedding, Billie and her cohorts pose as servants, causing
hijinks galore.

For immediate release
ESU Theatre presents a comic adaptation of a
Hitchcock masterpiece.
Emporia State University Theatre will present
The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from
the novel of the same name by John Buchan. The
show features Richard Hannay (Gabriel Diaz-
Serrano, freshman, Olathe), a Scotsman living a
completely ordinary and even boring life—until
he meets Pamela (Bailey B. Carter, senior,
Topeka), a mysterious woman claiming to be a
spy. After spending the night with her, he
awakens the next morning to find her murdered.
He soon finds himself on the run from a
mysterious organization known as "The 39
Steps." Hannay chases across Britain in order
to save himself and get back to his ordinary
life.
The show features over 150 characters despite
its small cast of 4. Most of those characters
are played by two clowns (Cameron Reynolds,
senior, Louisburg and Ryan Howerton, senior,
Haysville). Combining elements from classic spy
novels, gags from Monty Python, and the
dramatic elements of Alfred Hitchcock, this
show is filled with thrills, laughs, and a
death-defying finale.
The 39 Steps is under the direction of Theresa
Mitchell, who began working at ESU in 1999.
"I am most excited to create a pants-on-fire
paced spy thriller with a HUGE theatrical twist
with a fantastic student driven company."
Mitchell says. This will be the 30th play she
has directed at ESU.
Mitchell will have the assistance of stage
manager Tyler Lang (senior, Wichita) and
assistant stage manager Andrew Ralston
(sophomore, Topeka). Nancy J. Pontius is
designing the set and lighting, and Evan
Eisenbarth (senior, Cassoday) will design the
many costumes with help from Costumer Amanda
Dura. Assistant Professor Dan Matisa serves the
production as Dialect coach. Chris Lohkamp will
serve as both technical director and sound
designer.
The 39 Steps runs November 30th – December 3rd
at 7:30 pm. All performances will be in the
Karl C. Bruder Theatre in King Hall, located at
