The 2014 Fall session of classes will begin on Sept. 2nd.

The non-profit school of dance is host to the widest variety of adult dance classes in the city.
Beginning to advanced dancers can enjoy instruction in classical dance techniques such as ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance
as well as ethnic forms, including West Afrikan, Belly Dance, Indian Manipuri, Flamenco, and World Dance Fusion.
Club and ballroom dance styles include Hip Hop, Salsa, and East Coast Swing.
Various other classes are offered such as Circus Skills, Clowning, and Kung Fu.
Instructors at City in Motion are all professionals in their fields.

Performance opportunities are available to students who love the limelight. Remember to catch our dance showcases on the 1st Thursday of each month, 7-9pm, at the Uptown Arts Bar, 3611 Broadway, KCMO 64111.

City in Motion is home to the Children's Dance Theater, a professional track education program for dancers age 3-18 who are serious about dance. The students work with professional choreographers and appear in several performance events through out the year.

On Saturday, September 6th, Dance in the Park will once again present a thrilling evening of fun and excitement with performances
by professional dancers of all kinds from the Kansas City vicinity on an outdoor stage in Roanoke Park.
Now in its 16th year, Dance in the Park reflects the cultural vitality and diversity of the Kansas City region
and this year the concert will feature local dance companies in the genres of Modern, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop,
Tango, American Indian, and Greek dancing.
Participating companies include: City in Motion Dance Theater, City in Motion Children's Dance Theater & Apprentice Company,
Kansas City Contemporary Dance, Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company, Storling Dance Theater, Bobby Ray Entertainment,
The Billie Mahoney Dance Troupe, The Delta Dynamis Dancers, and Haskell Indian Nations University.

This family-friendly event is a collaboration of neighborhoods, businesses and performers.
It is a unique opportunity to sample a wide variety of regional professional dance companies in the tranquil setting of Roanoke Park.
Volunteers from all five neighborhoods contribute their time and talents to produce the event.
The KCMO Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund and the Missouri Arts Council have provided additional funding.

Arrive early to participate in the free dance class at 6:30 and to get a good seat.
This year there will be a limited number of VIP seats for purchase on a first come/first serve basis,
or you may bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Bring the whole family and a picnic dinner! Sorry, no pets allowed.

Call for Directors - OCTA - Deadline Sept 15

Directors wanted. Passion required!

The board of directors of the Olathe Civic Theater
Association (OCTA) is looking for directors to
bring to life an exciting 2015-2016 season. We're
inviting you to submit a slate of no more than
three scripts you'd like to direct at OCTA (any
additional scripts beyond the first three listed
will not be considered).

Send them to us at
octa.directors@olathetheatre.org, accompanied by
your theatrical resume, by September 15, 2014.
Additionally, please indicate the months of the
year, from late Fall 2015 to late Spring 2016,
that you are available.

This year OCTA is selecting its season based on
submissions from directors and selections from the
OCTA Season Selection Committee. We encourage all
directors to submit shows that you have a passion
for. An important consideration to keep in mind
when you submit shows to OCTA is that our season
is typically five shows, one or two of which may
be a musical. The rest of the season is usually a
mix of comedies and dramas. For the best chance of
having one of your scripts selected, please
include a variety of genres in your submission.
If, however, there's one show that's your dream
show, please submit it. We'll review it and see
if we can fit it into our season. At OCTA, we
respect and encourage your passion for the
material.

Also take into consideration that OCTA productions
have certainly stretched and put our wonderfully
intimate theatre facility to the test, but the
OCTA stage and theater are geared toward smaller
shows - although many of our past productions have
used imaginative staging within the space. Our
stage dimensions are available upon request to use
as a guideline as you consider your submissions.
You can also request a list of past shows to give
you a sense what we've done before. Don't be
afraid to submit a show that you see on the list!
We're open to reviving a production from our
history.

At OCTA we own our building. You have access to
the performance space for rehearsals from day one,
so you won't have to lug props or costumes from
one location to another. Also, we don't interfere
with your artistic decisions: Show us you can do
it and we'll help make it possible!

If one of your submissions is considered for our
season, we'll contact you to set up an interview.
OCTA is a great place to bring your theatrical
artistry alive, and we hope you'll consider
partnering with us to produce a great piece of
theater. We look forward to seeing your
submissions no later than September 15, 2014.

We will review the submissions and let candidates
know if we would like to set up and interview in
the weeks following mid-September. We aim to have
our season selected by December.

Water, water everywhere …

Kansas City, Mo. (August 6, 2014) … and a dead body on the train, too! What's a suffragist to do? Come help with the investigation on The Mystery Train as "Legally Dead" continues its Steampunk adventure through Aug 16th. Performances are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings in your favorite restaurants. Starring Tyler Miller, Nikki Susco-Taylor and Heather Elaine Rafferty as the shady characters in search of a killer.

"Legally Dead"—A would-be lawyer (in petticoats no less), a flood and a murder on the train makes for a SteamPunk adventure in 1903! Looks like a job for James East!
Murder mystery dinner theater is presented as a live interactive game, but not all dinner companions are who they seem: one of them may be an accomplice to murder—or even the murderer himself! Better put your goggles on.

The evening begins with seating and role-playing at 6:30 pm. Performances are at The Golden Ox, in downtown Kansas City and at Californos Westport. See our website for a complete schedule.
