ESU SUMMER THEATRE PRESENTS THE STINKY CHEESE MAN AND OTHER FAIRLY STUPID TALES

Emporia State Summer Theatre closes its 62nd
season with The Stinky Cheese Man and Other
Fairly Stupid Tales. Though the characters may
be familiar, this charming family comedy by
John Glore retells favorite storybook fables
with uproariously derailed makeovers.

Actors Tyler Lang (Wichita), Justin Tinker
(Henderson, NV), Fran Opheim (Olathe), Zulema
Renteria (Emporia), Harriel Mack (Newton),
Nathan Dale Short (Paola), and Torin Horvik
(Fargo, ND) tell the stories of Chicken Little,
The Gingerbread Man, and everything in between.
Fun music and witty narration accompany the
likes of ineloquent giants, sassy barnyard
animals, colossal cow pies, and enough stinky
cheese to go around.

The Stinky Cheese Man is under the direction of
Dan Matisa. Assisting with the production are
technical director Chris Lohkamp, scenic
designer Eric Luchen, costume designer Kelsey
Patterson, sound designer Andrew McCutcheon
(Gardner), production stage manager Courtney
Romero (Derby), and assistant stage manager
Andrew Ralston (Topeka).

The Stinky Cheese Man runs July 27th —29th at
7:30 pm, with a special matinee performance on
July 30th at 2:00 pm. All performances will be
in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre located at 1301
Market Street. For tickets to this production,
visit the Memorial Union Ticket Office or call
620-341-6378. For media inquiries and more
information about the show season, contact Jim

Call for Directors! Barn Players 2017 Benefit Concert

THE BARN PLAYERS

Call for Director…

The Barn Players
SUMMER BENEFIT CONCERT
2017

Process:
Submit a letter of application to The Barn Players, along
with your resume. Please include your experience in
directing, your experience in creating original benefit
concerts (if any) and your reasons for applying to direct.
Also, please include a vision for the benefit concert,
including concept and structure, possible song selections
and the ideas for the physical production of the show. An
interview will then be scheduled with the Artistic Director &
Assistant Artistic Director of The Barn.

Deadline to Apply:
August 31st, 2016, with interviews to be scheduled shortly
thereafter, by appointment only.

Show Concepts from past Benefit have included:
Women of Rock

Revolution: A Tribute to the Beatles

You Can't Stop The Beat: Rock on Broadway

Avenue Q to Xanadu: Songs from Broadway Musicals of
the 21st Century

Rehearsals:
The rehearsal schedule is at the discretion of the director,
and can begin at any time. The St. Pius rehearsal space
can be available at any time beginning June 25th. The
show moves into The Barn space on Monday, July 31st,
2017 with performances taking place on August 11 & 12 at
7:30pm and August 13, 2017 at 2:00pm.

Casting / Production Team / Physical Production:
Casting the show may be accomplished by open auditions
for actors and / or by director invitation…or, a combination
of both. Attendance at the benefit performances is often
related to the size of the cast. The director is encouraged
to cast the show with 10 – 20 performers, balancing
genders and actively seeking a multi-racial cast for the
production.
A small band of musicians is encouraged, which can be
simply one piano, a small combo or a small band.

The director is responsible for assembling the production
team for the project. There will be no monetary
compensation for any of the production team members or
musicians. As this is a benefit concert for The Barn Players,
they will be donating their time, energy and talent to the
process of creating the benefit for The Barn.

Director applicants are encouraged to have a creative, yet
minimal concept for the physical production of the show,
due to the short amount of time allotted for rehearsal time in
the space.

To submit an application or for more information, please
contact
Eric Magnus, Artistic Director of The Barn Players
at emagnitude@me.com

The Barn Players embraces diversity in all aspects of our
organization. Non-traditional and equal-opportunity
casting is encouraged.

Call for 10-Minute Original Plays for The Barn's Annual Play Festival!

BARN PLAYERS 6x10 FESTIVAL - CALL FOR SCRIPTS

Grab your pencils! Or laptops! The Barn Players Theatre is
holding
its eighth annual 6x10 Play Festival on December 9th – 11th
and we are looking for some great scripts. The Festival will
produce six short plays, each roughly ten minutes in length
and all by local & regional writers. Tell us a great story in ten
minutes and you'll get the chance to see your work
performed on our stage.

Playwrights whose scripts are selected will be encouraged
to
participate in rehearsal and to work collaboratively with the
director. They may modify their script as they watch it take
shape on
the stage.

GUIDELINES (please read and follow carefully)
- All playwrights must live within 300 miles of Kansas City.
- Scripts may not have been produced or self-produced
previously in the Greater Kansas City area.
- Scripts should be easily produced in the context of a ten-
minute
play festival (i.e. small casts and simple sets)
- Each playwright may submit up to two (2) scripts for
review.
- Scripts may only be submitted electronically to
"tenminute@thebarnplayers.org". Scripts sent via US mail
or dropped off at The Barn will not be considered.
- Each play must be a blind submission (i.e. no playwright
identifiers anywhere on the script or cover page) and must
be accompanied by a separate document or email with
playwright's contact information. Submissions received
without following the rules regarding contact information
may be immediately disqualified.
- Each playwright submitting a play will receive a notice of
receipt.
- No comments or feedback on the scripts will be given.
- There is no entry fee.
- Failure to follow these guidelines of submission will
automatically disqualify a script(s) from consideration.
- Deadline for submission is August 1st, 2016.
- Selections will be made and all playwrights informed
through the a posting on The Barn Players website at
www.thebarnplayers.org.

By submitting a script for consideration, the playwright
agrees that
The Barn Players may produce the script during the festival.
The
playwright agrees to waive any royalty for the production of
the piece
in the festival and relinquishes all rights to casting decisions
or
scenic choices.

And now, daughter Ruth unveils her plan to write and star in a one-woman show about the family miracle so the "whole world will know!" However, as her plans for theatrical immortality unfold, the entire family's faith is shaken to the very core when a deathbed confession causes the family legend to unravel. The results are heartfelt and hilarious.

ESU SUMMER THEATRE PRESENTS MARC CAMOLETTI’S DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER

Emporia State Summer Theatre presents the third
show of their 62nd season, Don't Dress For
Dinner. Written by Marc Comoletti, this fast
and furious farce follows Bernard (Mitchell
Hoover, Oxford), as he plans a romantic weekend
with his mistress (Aubrey Jenkins, Admire)
while his wife, Jacqueline (Lisa Tinker,
Derby), is away. At his charming converted
French farmhouse, he has arranged for a cook
(Paige Lundin, Valley Center) to prepare
gourmet delights and has invited his best
friend Robert (Andrew Ralston, Topeka) along to
provide an alibi. It's foolproof. What could
possibly go wrong?

Suppose Robert turns up not realizing quite why
he has been invited. Suppose Robert and
Jacqueline are secret lovers and have
consequently determined that Jacqueline will
not leave for the weekend. Suppose the cook has
to pretend to be the mistress and the mistress
is unable to cook. Suppose everyone's alibi
gets confused with everyone else's. An evening
of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and
Robert improvise at breakneck speed.

Don't Dress For Dinner is under the direction
of Jim Bartruff. Assisting with the production
are assistant director Nathan Dale Short
(Paola), scenic designer Chris Lohkamp, costume
designer Amanda Dura, sound designer Andrew
McCutcheon (Gardner), production stage manager
