The Red Velvet Cake War - Last Weekend

Don't miss your chance to catch The Red Velvet Cake War by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten this coming weekend in Leavenworth, Kansas
The Verdeen cousins couldn't have picked a worse time to hold their family reunion. Their antics have delighted local gossips in the small town of Sweetgum, as their self-righteous Aunt LaMerle is quick to point out.
It's a traumatic time for Gaynelle Verdeen Bodeen. Her husband has run off with his girlfriend and, in retaliation, Gaynelle has "accidentally" run her car into the double-wide trailer home of that man-stealing woman. Gaynelle subsequently faces various legal charges as well as being observed by a court-appointed psychologist checking on her sanity.
All of this happens shortly before the annual Verdeen family reunion in Sweetgum, Texas, usually presided over by Gaynelle's overbearing Aunt La Merle.
La Merle wants to cancel this year's reunion because of Gaynelle's scandal, but Gaynelle and her cousins, sexpot Peaches and laid-back Jimmy Wyvette, insist that the reunion go forward.
Besides, Gaynelle bets her house with La Merle that she can make a better-tasting red velvet cake than her officious aunt, who annually takes home the prize for best cake.
With the psychologist lurking about, an amorous suitor suddenly appearing out of nowhere and a tornado heading straight for Sweetgum, Gaynelle must learn how to bake a really good cake in a really short time period to keep ownership of her house and keep herself out of jail and the insane asylum to boot.
As this fast-paced romp barrels toward its uproarious climax, you'll wish your own family reunions were this much fun!
Directed by Melanie Marcec.
Featuring Amanda Nguyen, Rachel Szmed, Nancy Mazzia, Sara Barber, Brian Resch, Kevin Albee, Tina Allen, Marianne Tennant, Carol Varner, Cape Rust, Jeff Swanson and Nancy Martin.
Adults $12; military ID card holders $10; seniors 62+, students & groups $10; and 12 & under $7.. Leavenworth Performing Arts Center, 500 Delaware St, (913) 651-0027, www.rccplv.com (Suitable for Everyone)

The KC Improv Company Presents Deadly Love

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kansas City, MO, February 9th, 2016

The KC Improv Company Presents Deadly Love

KC Improv Company Combines Dinner Theater, Improv, Murder
Mystery, and Valentine's Day

The KC Improv Company is in the middle of its first season of
2016. Included in its line up of shows are The Unwritten Works of
William Shakespeare, Presto! The Musical, The Harold, and The
Unusual Suspects: An Improvised Murder Mystery. For Valentine's
Day, the professional comedy group has decided to select one of
its formats for a special Sunday presentation.

Sunday, February 14th's show is entitled Deadly Love. It will be a
combination of Whose Line Is It Anyway style improv games and
KC Improv's The Unusual Suspects, one of its long-form
mainstage shows. The performance stars KC Improv members
Bobby Miller, Jr., Chris Fiedler, David Martinez, Jessica Hagge,
Meghan Anderson, and is hosted by Michael Foster.

The Unusual Suspects is a character-driven murder mystery
comedy inspired by suggestions from the audience. Previous
shows have taken place at Disneyland, Dairy Queen, Da Club, and
a bathroom. The audience randomly and secretly selects a cast
member, which decides who will be the victim. At the end of the
performance, the audience votes for the most likely murderer, and
the fateful act is reenacted.

Tickets include a meal at Green Room Burgers and Beer before the
show. Attendees can select a burger and fries or grilled cheese
and tomato soup entrees. Alcohol is available during the show.

The show has become a recent crowd favorite, breaking box office
records for the company's Friday 10pm slot. The short-form and
long-form portion of Deadly Love will feature a Valentine's Day
theme. Doors open at 7pm, and the performance begins at
7:30pm.

The KC Improv Company performs every Friday and Saturday
night at the Kick Comedy Theater in Westport. Shows are 8pm and
10pm, Friday and Saturday nights, with a 6:30pm all-ages show
every Saturday.

His story. His inspiration, His genius. The tapestry of
creativity that characterizes Stephen Sondheim remained
largely undiscussed, especially by the man himself, until
the creation of Sondheim On Sondheim. Ranging from the
beloved to the obscure, the carefully selected two-dozen
songs hang from a framework of in-depth video
interviews delving into Sondheim's personal life and
artistic process. Hailed as a "revelatory revue full of
wonderful moments" and a "funny, affectionate and
revealing tribute to musical theater's greatest living
composer and lyricist," Sondheim On Sondheim is an
intimate portrait of the famed songwriter in his own
words... and music. Through the use of exclusive
interview footage, audiences get an inside look at famed
composer Stephen Sondheim's personal life and artistic
process.

SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is underwritten through the
generous donation of Bruce and Cecelia Baty.

SYNOPSIS:
His story. His inspiration, His genius. The tapestry of
creativity that characterizes Stephen Sondheim remained
largely undiscussed, especially by the man himself, until
the creation of Sondheim On Sondheim. Ranging from the
beloved to the obscure, the carefully selected two-dozen
songs hang from a framework of in-depth video
interviews delving into Sondheim's personal life and
artistic process. Hailed as a "revelatory revue full of
wonderful moments" and a "funny, affectionate and
revealing tribute to musical theater's greatest living
composer and lyricist," Sondheim On Sondheim is an
intimate portrait of the famed songwriter in his own
words... and music. Through the use of exclusive
interview footage, audiences get an inside look at famed
composer Stephen Sondheim's personal life and artistic
process.

SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is underwritten through the
generous donation of Bruce and Cecelia Baty.

SYNOPSIS:
Charlotte Bronte's great love story comes to life with
music to lift your heart and set your spirit soaring. This
beloved tale of secrets and the lies that secrets create, of
unimaginable hope and unspoken passion, reminds us
what it is to fall deeply, truly and completely in love.
Nominated for five Tony Awards, Jane Eyre explores
religion, sexuality and protofeminism, all while enchanting
audiences with a timeless love story.

Jane's story begins in Gateshead, where she is in the
unfortunate care of her cruel Aunt Sarah and cousin
John, as per her uncle's dying wish. The miserable young
orphan is finally rescued when she is sent away to attend
Lowood School for Girls. After six years, Jane leaves
Lowood and is shortly after hired as a governess at
Thornfield Hall. Here she meets Mr. Edward Rochester,
thus beginning her passionate and heart wrenching
journey of love, loss and the struggles of morality.

Character Breakdown
